After three bows, tears welled in Harold's eyes, but he remained calm. He knew his grandmother was extremely disappointed and flustered, so he wouldn't risk further angering her.
Lady Wilson sighed in relief after seeing Harold bow and confess defeat. She hadn't wanted her grandson to bow to Charlie Wade, but a bet involving her had been made.
She looked at Harold and said emphatically, "Harold, consider these three bows a lesson. Next time, don't bet on something you're not certain of. And keep your family out of it!"
With a pout, Harold mumbled, "Okay, Granny, I understand. I'll never do it again"
His eyes glared viciously at Charlie Wade as he thought, "You bastard! How dare you make me kneel and bow before you? You made me lose face today. I swear I'll get you back!"
Lady Wilson then announced, "It's a joyous day! Claire Wilson won the contract. Let's make preparations. We must build a strong partnership with the Emgrand Group!"
Charlie Wade reminded her, "Grandmother, since Claire Wilson secured the deal, shouldn't you announce her appointment as company manager, as promised?"
Lady Wilson's brow furrowed. She had promised the position to the contract winner, but Claire wasn't her favorite. Concerns arose. What if Claire became uncontrollable in such a high position? In that moment, she wanted to retract her promise. Since it wasn't a sworn oath, she wouldn't feel bad about it.
However, retracting it immediately would be reckless, so she said, "I'll hold a reception tomorrow evening, inviting prominent Aurouss Hill figures. I'll formally announce our partnership with Emgrand Group and the new director's appointment."
Charlie Wade was relieved. Claire Wilson smiled, reassured.
Lady Wilson turned to Claire, saying, "Claire, I need you to do something for me."
"Yes, Grandma?"
"Invite the chairman of Emgrand Group to tomorrow's reception."
She continued expectantly, "His attendance would greatly elevate our family's standing!"
Claire hesitated. "ButI only met Vice-Chairman Miss Young. I haven't met the chairman. Isn't it a little soon to hold a reception after just securing the contract?"
"So what? I want all of Aurouss Hill to know we're partnered with Emgrand Group. We'll be incredibly successful and wealthy!"
Lady Wilson continued, "Even if the chairman can't come, invite Doris Young. She's the second-in-command; she'd be a respectable guest."
She envisioned the families who'd scorned the Wilsons bowing before them. The Wilson family would become dazzling and prosperous under her leadership!
Claire responded cautiously, "Okay, I'll try"
"Don't try! You must!"
Claire nodded reluctantly, then whispered to Charlie Wade, "What if the chairman doesn't come? What if Doris Young refuses?"
Charlie chuckled. "Just try. You have Miss Young's number, right? She might agree."
The banquet's purpose was to showcase the Wilson family's strength and announce Claire's promotion. As her husband, Charlie would support her.
Claire didn't know Charlie was the Emgrand Group chairman. She fidgeted and sighed. "He's supposedly a young master from a wealthy Eastcliff family. He must be incredibly busy. How could he attend?"
Charlie laughed. "Maybe he spends his days at home cooking and doing laundry. Who knows?"
Claire rolled her eyes. "Do you think everyone's like you?"
Charlie nodded. "Maybe the Emgrand chairman is just like me"
Claire scoffed, "Cut it out! That's impossible!"
