The Amazing Son-in-Law
Chapter 431
Charlie Wade, his wife, and Loreen were bathing in the thermal spring pool when Marcus, with the words "worthless jerk" etched on his forehead, and his plastic-faced girlfriend (who had a crooked nose) hitched a ride in a dilapidated van back to the city.
Marcus, sitting in the van, kept his bloodied forehead covered, fearing the driver would see the inscription. They'd left the Champs Elys Spa Hotel, bargaining with the driver for $200 to take them home. Marcus desperately wanted to avoid further trouble.
The driver noticed the blood oozing from Marcus's temple in the rearview mirror. After a while, he asked, "Boy, are you hurt?"
Marcus snapped, "That's none of your business! Just drive safely and stop asking stupid questions!"
The driver, feeling slightly offended, retorted, "Do you think I care about you? Your temple's bleeding; I don't want blood staining my seat!"
Marcus exploded, "Damn it, you worthless jerk! Your van's only worth forty or fifty thousand bucks! You think I'll ruin your worthless van? You're outrageous!"
Marcus habitually used "worthless jerk," a habit seemingly impossible to break, even with the words branded on his forehead. It reinforced the old saying: reforming a nation is easier than changing human nature.
The driver, unexpectedly berated, lost his temper. "Are you seriously ignorant? How dare you use such language!"
Marcus, enraged, felt like he was going to die. Seeing the driver's anger, he lashed out, "Damn it! Aren't you a worthless jerk? Who do you think you are? I could have someone kill you with a single phone call! Nobody would care if a worthless jerk like you died!"
The driver, furious, was driving through a city center intersection when he spotted a police car. He pulled over, exited the van, and told the officers, "Officer, my passenger threatened to kill me. I think he might have weapons. My safety is at risk!"
The officers quickly surrounded the van, ordered Marcus and his companion to raise their hands, and exit.
Marcus realized he was in trouble. In the city center, he couldn't hide the words "worthless jerk" on his forehead. He decided he wouldn't get out, dead or alive.
He told the officers, "What are you doing? I'm just going home! Make the driver take me home, or I won't let him go!"
The officers, seeing Marcus's arrogance and the blood on his forehead, knew he wasn't a good guy. They warned him, "One last chance. Put your hands up and get out for questioning."
Marcus, exasperated, yelled, "Damn it! If you don't believe me, call and ask if they know Marcus, son of the Lloyd Group owner!"
An officer scoffed, "You're riding in a van and claiming to be the son of the Lloyd Group? Can't they afford you a car?"
Chapter 432
The officer responded coldly, "Fine. You're insulting a police officer, resisting arrest. Don't blame us for what happens next!"
He sprayed pepper spray in Marcus's face. Marcus instinctively rubbed his eyes, forgetting the words on his forehead were now visible.
"Oh, my God…" an officer exclaimed. "Look at him! He has words engraved on his forehead!"
"What kind of tattoo is that? Hardcore!"
"Hahaha! No wonder he calls people worthless jerks. It's tattooed on his forehead!"
Marcus frantically tried to cover his forehead but his vision was blurry from the pepper spray. He was pulled from the van, thrown to the ground, handcuffed, and prevented from covering the inscription.
The officers took Marcus and his companion to the side of the road and made them squat. They called for backup to take them to the station.
This was a busy intersection. Everyone saw the man with swollen, red eyes, and the words "pathetic jerk" etched on his forehead.
People took pictures, making Marcus incredibly self-conscious. He tried to turn away, but an officer stopped him. "Don't move. You like calling people worthless jerks? Now, show these words to the public!"
Marcus wanted to die. He wished he hadn't angered the driver.
Suddenly, an old BMW pulled up. A young man approached, saying, "Mr. Lloyd, what's going on? Ouch! What happened to you? Who did this?"
Marcus, head down, heard someone call him "Mr. Lloyd" and wanted to disappear. He looked up at the somewhat familiar young man and asked, "Who the hell are you?"
The man said, "I'm Harold, from the Wilson family. We had dinner with Gerald from the White family. Don't you remember?"
Marcus gritted his teeth, spat at Harold, and cursed, "F*ck you! You're from the lowly Wilson family and you dare insult me? You're looking for death?"
Chapter 433
Harold was losing his temper. He'd seen Marcus arrested and came to say hello. He said angrily, "Mr. Lloyd, I just wanted to ask about the situation, as friends."
Marcus yelled, "Who do you think you are? A pauper like you is worthy of being my friend?! You're a pathetic jerk! Get lost!"
Harold felt wronged. He didn't dare defy Marcus; the Lloyd family was far more powerful than the near-bankrupt Wilson family. He wiped the spit from his face and apologized, "Sorry for offending you, Mr. Lloyd." He left feeling angry and bitter.
Marcus also felt awful. He’d intended a low-key return home, but instead, became a spectacle at the busiest intersection. People took photos, posting them online; he was dubbed "Aurouss Hill's No. 1 Pathetic Jerk."
Chapter 434
It was a frustrating night for Charlie Wade at the Champs Elys Medspa Hotel. He'd planned to share a bed with Claire, but Loreen insisted on sharing with Claire, leaving Charlie alone. He wasn't sure if it was intentional or not.
The next day, Charlie was ready to leave, but the women stayed to enjoy the pool before finally checking out. They looked radiant afterward.
Isaac handled their checkout, apologizing profusely to Charlie and Claire and warning staff that anyone treating clients unfairly would be fired. The staff understood the importance of fair service.
Isaac walked them to the entrance, but Charlie subtly indicated he didn't need an escort to the car park. Isaac understood and wished them a safe trip.
Loreen stretched, saying, "That was so comfortable. Claire, wouldn't it be great to stay a few more nights?"
Claire smiled, "My business just opened; I have too much to do."
Chapter 435
Claire suddenly asked, "Don't you need to go back to work?"
Loreen stuck out her tongue. "My job is basically unsupervised. I'm a freelance employee. Since you two are busy, I'll send you home first."
At the car park, Don Albert was by Loreen's car; the scratches were repaired. He greeted Charlie respectfully, "Mr. Wade, did you enjoy your stay?"
"Not bad." Charlie noticed the repaired car. "You did well."
Albert said, "Mr. Wade, I know someone at a nearby service center. Should I send someone to escort you home?"
Charlie waved him off. "No, we can manage."
Claire shook her head, "I don't know why they treat you so respectfully."
Charlie smiled, "Maybe it's my abilities?"
Claire gave him a skeptical look. "Your Feng Shui skills? The more they believe in you, the more vicious their revenge will be if they find out they've been tricked! Be careful!"
They drove back to the city. Loreen asked, "Are you both going home, or somewhere else?"
"Home," Claire replied. "You should rest too, for work on Monday!"
Loreen agreed. "I'll drop you off before heading back to the resort."
Claire was surprised. "You're still staying at the resort?"
Loreen hummed, "Dreamland. It's easier than buying a house here. Daily cleaning, room service, laundry "
Claire asked about her family.
Loreen replied, "No more trouble. I sued them, but they said they need proof. My relative seems to have stopped. I think he won't dare do anything anymore." She subtly thanked Charlie via the rearview mirror, knowing he'd warned her family off.
Claire felt sorry for Loreen, living alone in a hotel, targeted by her family. Claire suddenly offered, "Loreen, the White family gave Charlie a suite at Thompson First. When the renovation's done, you can move in with us!"
"Really?" Loreen asked excitedly.
Claire smiled, "Of course! You're my best friend."
Chapter 436
Claire and Loreen were happy about the arrangement, but Charlie felt gloomy. Claire was too innocent, unaware of Loreen's interest in him. He couldn't refuse, however, so he hid his feelings. Loreen was thrilled; living with them would increase her chances with Charlie.
They arrived home. An old man, Anthony, approached them. Claire greeted him happily, thanking him for saving her father.
Anthony said he needed to talk to Charlie. Claire invited him in for tea, but Anthony declined, wanting just a brief conversation with Charlie. Charlie told Claire to go inside while he talked to Anthony.
After Claire left, Anthony said, "Mr. Wade, I have something to report. There's a Chinese Medicine Exposition tomorrow, and a three-hundred-year-old purple ginseng will be auctioned. I wondered if you'd like to see it."
"A three-hundred-year-old purple ginseng?" Charlie thought. This rare herb could be used to make powerful pills. He agreed to go.
Anthony said he'd arrange an invitation and pick Charlie up in the morning. They agreed to meet the next day. Anthony left. Charlie went inside.
