The Amazing Son-in-Law (Chapters 611-615)
Chapter 611
Elaine Ma knew that if caught, she could be charged with gambling. Worse, if her husband and daughter discovered her substantial gambling losses, they would be furious. She would face severe condemnation. Though the money was gone, at least she hadn't ended up like those sent to the coal mines for decades.
Still, she felt depressed about losing the money and her bangle. She could explain the broken bangle—she had the pieces—but what about the money? Jacob Wilson didn't have his own bank account; she managed all the household funds, including her husband's earnings from reselling antiques. She'd gambled it all away. Jacob's anger would be immense if he found out.
Elaine sighed, consumed by depression and anxiety, regretting her actions.
On the way home, Albert called Charlie Wade: “Master Wade, I watched the team depart for the highway; they're en route to Erith. I should have gone myself, but I have business at Heaven Springs tonight. A VIP reserved the Diamond Suite for a banquet.” He added, “I’ll fly there tomorrow to check. The convoy will arrive by afternoon.”
Charlie Wade asked, “Important guests? Who?”
“The Webb family (South Region)—Donald and Sean.”
Charlie Wade frowned. Days had passed; why hadn't they left? Were they planning to stay in Aurouss Hill and confront him? After all, he was responsible for Kian Webb's humiliation. They might suspect a hidden agenda and be investigating.
However, Charlie Wade wasn't worried. The Webb family, however powerful, were no match for the Wade family. Even without invoking the Wade name, his current strength protected him. If they attacked, he would retaliate.
“Okay, noted. Get busy,” Charlie Wade said.
“Okay, Master Wade!”
They nearly reached home when the call ended.
“Pull over,” Elaine said. “I’ll drive myself. I don’t want your dad and Claire to see us together.”
Charlie Wade nodded, stopped, and got out. He decided to visit the market for dinner ingredients. There, he called Jacob Wilson to check on the Glorious Club party. Jacob had just returned, profusely thanking Charlie for restoring his honor.
When Charlie returned, Jacob was in the living room, happily sipping tea. He grinned: “My dear son-in-law, welcome home!”
Chapter 612
Charlie Wade smiled. Noticing Claire and Elaine were absent, he asked, “Are Claire and Mom home?”
“Yes and no,” Jacob said casually. “Mom went to her room, saying she wasn't feeling well. Probably heartbroken over mahjong losses.”
Charlie asked, “Shouldn’t you check on her?”
Jacob gestured dismissively. “She only plays mahjong; I’m tired of it. Even if she lost a few thousand, leave her be. She’ll get over it after a couple of days.”
Charlie stifled a laugh. A few thousand? Dad, it’s eighty thousand times that! More than sixty million! He sighed at Elaine's stupidity. Sixty million lost playing mahjong?
Meanwhile, at the Wilson family villa, Christopher was comfortably sipping tea, awaiting Hannah's triumphant return. Their celebratory styles were identical.
He chuckled at Hannah's message: “Dear, Elaine Ma’s two million savings, her house, and the five-million-dollar jade bangle are ours! She mortgaged the Thompson First villa! Charlie Wade’s sending the contract! We’re rich!”
Christopher calculated: excluding extras, the villa alone was worth at least 120 million. His share would be nearly 50 million! Adding his cash, Elaine's house, and the bangle, he’d have over 50 million, plus his existing 15 million—nearly 70 million! Enough for a lavish life, even if the Wilsons went bankrupt.
He planned to give his mother 8 million (to silence her incessant requests), keeping the rest secret. He'd buy a mansion after the bankruptcy.
Christopher grinned: “Elaine Ma, you bitch! Serves you right! Consider this compensation for our emotional damages!” He felt no remorse; she deserved it. He even considered making her a long-term source of income.
Chapter 613
As Christopher fantasized, Lady Wilson entered with a gloomy expression.
“Mom, you’re home! How’s everything?”
Lady Wilson huffed: “Bankruptcy liquidation starts next Monday. They’ll seize this house. Where’s the 8 million you promised?”
Christopher chuckled: “Mom, it’s in a fixed deposit account. My fund manager is working on it.” He secretly didn't want to give her anything, but he needed her cooperation to inherit her hidden assets—millions in life insurance, jewelry, and his father's antiques (worth over 20 million). He knew she wouldn't use them to save the company; she'd hidden them safely. A rift with her could cost him his inheritance.
Lady Wilson: “Chris, I raised you. Don’t keep the money. If you don’t give it to me, I’ll move to Jacob’s tomorrow and leave my assets to him!”
Christopher panicked. He had to give her the 8 million. He’d give it after Linda sold Charlie Wade’s villa.
Lady Wilson: “Give me the money now!”
Christopher: “Mom, I really don’t have it now… I’ll give it to you tomorrow!”
Lady Wilson cried: “Tomorrow, tomorrow! Ungrateful bastard!”
Christopher: “Mom, relax. It’s with Hannah! She’ll give it to you tomorrow.”
Lady Wilson: “It’s late; why hasn’t she returned?”
Christopher: “She went to the bank; she’ll be back soon…” He texted Hannah, but received no reply. He called, only to hear, “Sorry, the person you called is unavailable.”
“Her phone must be dead…”
“Keep calling until you reach her!” Lady Wilson insisted. She tried calling herself; the same message appeared.
Chapter 614
Lady Wilson: “What’s wrong? Why did she turn off her phone?”
Christopher: “Phones die. She’s outside; it's inconvenient to charge.”
Lady Wilson: “Keep calling!”
For half an hour, he couldn't reach her. Something felt wrong. The mahjong scam was indoors; charging wasn't a problem. He'd stressed staying in touch. She wouldn't turn off her phone without warning.
He sat up straight, frowning: “Something’s wrong…”
Lady Wilson: “Drop the act. What’s going on?!”
He felt trapped: “Mom, stay out of this. I can’t reach Hannah. I’ll call others.”
He called Linda; her phone was off. Then Hudson and Gianna; same result.
He was confused and agitated. Lady Wilson, sensing something was amiss, sat up: “Chris, what is going on?”
Christopher: “I don’t know…”
Lady Wilson: “Why are you so upset? What are you hiding?”
Christopher: “Mom, honestly, Hannah set a trap for Elaine Ma. She hired con women to cheat Elaine out of her money and Charlie Wade’s villa. When the bank seizes our house, you can move into Thompson First!”
Chapter 615
Hearing “Thompson First,” Lady Wilson’s eyes widened. She'd longed to live there; even die there, believing dying in a mansion ensured reincarnation into wealth. She’d previously tried to rob it unsuccessfully. She was thrilled at the prospect of getting it.
Harold and Wendy, overhearing, asked anxiously about Hannah’s success.
Christopher: “In her last message, she said she got Elaine Ma’s cash, her house, and Charlie Wade’s Thompson First villa…”
Lady Wilson shrieked: “That’s great news! Wonderful! Elaine Ma deserves to be cheated!”
Christopher: “Mom, even if it worked, we have to share with the partners. We’d have to compensate them. But the worst is, I can’t reach Hannah or her partners! They're gone!”
Lady Wilson: “Gone? Do you think she ran away with the money?”
Christopher: “No way!”
Harold: “Grandma, Mom wouldn’t run away!”
Lady Wilson: “It’s hard to say! We’re finished, and Hannah knows it. You gave her all your money. If she doesn’t want a miserable life with you, she’d run!”
She continued: “What if she sold the villa and got tens of millions? She has reason to run! Maybe she’s gone abroad!”
Christopher: “Mom, Hannah and I have a solid relationship!”
Lady Wilson: “That’s because she had no money! Now she has tens of millions; she doesn’t need you. You’re a handicap!”
Christopher froze, realizing his mother might be right.
