The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 616-620
Chapter 616
Hannah might flee if she possessed that much money. After all, she and Elaine Ma were inseparable; both greedy and money-obsessed.
"Mother's right," Christopher mused. "With me, our children, and even my mother now burdens, she might have run off with the money!"
Resentment clouded his face. He said deeply, "Let me call Elaine Ma."
He phoned Elaine Ma, who answered immediately.
"Elaine Ma, it's Christopher"
Elaine Ma gritted her teeth. This old dog! she thought. He knows about Hannah's scam! Maybe he's the mastermind! The day's losses fueled her rage, but remembering Hannah's destination, she suppressed it, saying disdainfully, "Christopher Wilson, we were kicked out of the Wilson family. Why 'brother-in-law'?"
Christopher sighed, knowing he couldn't antagonize her. "Sorry, Elaine Ma, I misspoke."
Elaine Ma snorted. "Cut the crap. What do you want?"
"Elaine Ma, have you seen Hannah today?"
Elaine Ma denied it swiftly, "No! Not since Summer's house. What happened?"
"No?!" Christopher yelped, cursing inwardly. "Bitch, who are you fooling? Hannah's been reporting to me all day! Your house, your BMW, mahjong—even how much she won from you! And you claim you didn't see her?!"
Controlling his fury, he tried again. "She said she was playing mahjong with you this morning. Are you sure?"
Elaine Ma was troubled. The mahjong players and their associate were at the coal mine. Discovery of her involvement would invite revenge, or worse, police intervention. She had to deny it.
"Funny, isn't it? No! I didn't see her!"
Christopher pressed on, frantic. "Elaine Ma, please! Did you see her? Where did she go? At noon, she said she was playing mahjong and won Charlie Wade's Thompson First villa!"
"Christopher, are you joking? When did she win our villa? I said no! I hate her; I wouldn't play mahjong with her!"
Suspecting Christopher's involvement, she gritted her teeth. "Maybe your wife eloped! I heard she frequented a gigolo at a KTV, someone near your son Harold's age. They might have planned to run away together!"
Chapter 617
Christopher shouted, "Elaine Ma, that's a lie!"
Elaine Ma blurted, "Fine! If you find Hannah, I'll admit defeat!"
"What do you mean?"
"Find out yourself! I'm tired!"
Elaine Ma hung up. Christopher nearly smashed his phone.
Harold intervened. "Dad, calm down! Find Mom!"
Harold didn't know his mother was near Erith's gullies, unreachable by the Wilsons.
Wendy added, "Dad, don't be mad! What did the bitch say?"
Christopher seethed, "Elaine Ma said your mother had an affair and eloped!"
Harold, Wendy, and Lady Wilson were shocked.
"An affair?!" Lady Wilson cried. "Is this true?"
"I don't know, Mom!" Christopher said anxiously. "Elaine Ma said the scam was a decoy, to buy Hannah time to escape!"
Harold cursed, "The bitch lied! Mom didn't have an affair!"
Christopher's expression shifted. "She did seem suspicious"
"What do you mean?" Harold and Wendy asked.
"Grandma asked for eight million, but Mom didn't want to give it. She suggested I transfer all the money—fifteen million—into her account and tell Grandma it was stuck."
Lady Wilson's eyes widened. She slapped Christopher. "Didn't you say you only had ten million?!"
Christopher, shocked, retorted, "Mom, you estimated ten million! I didn't say it!"
"Why weren't you honest?! Why didn't you tell me how much you had?!"
Christopher was speechless, guilty of his concealment.
Lady Wilson huffed, "I thought you were better than your brother! You lied to me! A wise man ruined by his wisdom! You gave all the money to your wife, and now she's gone!"
Wendy protested, "No! Grandma, Mom wouldn't do that!"
Lady Wilson glared. "Wouldn't she? Where is she? Why did she disappear? And why did all her accomplices disappear except Elaine Ma? Something's odd!"
Harold suggested, "Maybe Elaine Ma is behind this? She dealt with Mom and her accomplices?"
Lady Wilson scoffed, "Elaine Ma? That stupid bitch? Only your idiotic uncle would be fooled by her! Your mother is ten times cleverer! If she wanted to fool Elaine Ma, Elaine Ma couldn't have counterattacked!"
Chapter 618
Uncertainty clouded Christopher's face. The only explanation was that his wife had run away with the money. How could four adults vanish without a trace?
The more he thought about it, the more he believed Hannah had betrayed him. She was rich now.
He bit his lip. "I can't wait here. I'll go to Elaine Ma!"
Lady Wilson smacked him with her cane. "Get answers and find Hannah! Get the fifteen million back! If you don't, I'll assume I only have one son!"
Christopher nodded dejectedly. "Okay, I'll go."
"Wait! I'll come too!" Lady Wilson declared.
"Mom, you'll only cause more trouble!"
"More trouble?! After losing all the money, I'm the troublemaker?! I'm going! If you don't resolve this, I'll live with Jacob Wilson!"
Christopher reluctantly agreed. They took a taxi to Elaine Ma's house.
Meanwhile, Charlie Wade and Jacob Wilson watched TV, while Elaine Ma wept over her losses. A bang echoed at the door.
Chapter 619
Charlie Wade opened the door, frowning at Lady Wilson and Christopher. "What are you doing here?"
Lady Wilson cursed, pushing past him. "Get out of my way! I want to see Elaine Ma!"
Charlie Wade's frown deepened. "Old lady, we're not related, and you're not welcome here!"
"What did you say?!" Lady Wilson snarled.
"Do you think you're still head of the Wilson family? You're not welcome here, get lost!"
Jacob Wilson appeared, frowning. "What are you doing here?"
Lady Wilson asked, "Jacob Wilson, do you still see me as your mother?"
Jacob Wilson replied steadily, "You severed ties with me. Ask yourself if you see me as your son."
Lady Wilson's face twisted. "Blood is thicker than water! I'm always your mother!"
Jacob Wilson sighed, fed up with her. "You kick me out and cut ties, then call yourself my mother when you need me? I don't want such a mother!"
He turned away. Charlie Wade smiled. "You heard my father-in-law. Please go."
Chapter 620
Lady Wilson was furious at Jacob's boldness. For decades, she controlled him, and he never resisted. But now he dared to defy her?!
As she prepared to lash out, Christopher intervened humbly. "Charlie Wade, we need to ask Elaine Ma something urgent."
Charlie Wade knew it was about Hannah, but he didn't know she was secretly in Erith. He said, "Tell me, and I'll pass the message."
"My wife is gone!"
Charlie Wade feigned shock. "Gone? How?"
Christopher, irritated, said, "I can't find her. Before losing contact, she said she was with Elaine Ma."
Charlie Wade chuckled. "You can deduce the situation without asking."
"What do you mean?"
"Simple. Your wife ran away. Look at you—no money, no power, no friends. Bankruptcy's coming, right? The villa will be seized, right? Aunty Hannah's never suffered. Do you think she'll live with you in a cramped apartment?"
Christopher growled, "This is none of your business!"
Jacob Wilson added, "Brother, Charlie's right. The Wilson family is a bottomless pit. If I were Hannah, I wouldn't live with you, I'd take your money and start a new life!"
"You" Christopher seethed.
Charlie Wade slapped him. Before Christopher could react, Charlie Wade scolded, "Christopher, how dare you be so presumptuous in my house? Did you forget what happened to your son and lackeys?"
Christopher, humbled, said quietly, "Jacob Wilson, I apologize. Could you please ask Elaine Ma to see me?"
Jacob Wilson was delighted. He felt a surge of satisfaction.
"Brother, you and Hannah wanted to buy a villa two days ago?"
"How did you know?" Christopher asked suspiciously.
"Elaine Ma told me. She was playing mahjong when you viewed the house."
Christopher nodded. "Yes, but what's that got to do with today?"
Lady Wilson frowned. "Chris, what's going on? You're buying a house? When? Why didn't I know?!"
Christopher was startled, realizing he'd forgotten to tell his mother. He explained patiently, "Mom, Hannah and I were afraid we'd be homeless after the villa is seized, so we looked at other houses"
"Bullshit!" Lady Wilson cursed. "My house will be seized because you wouldn't help the family! You're stingy, and you viewed houses behind my back?!"
Christopher was mortified. Lady Wilson slapped him. "Ungrateful bastard! You believe an outsider over your own mother! Great, now your fifteen million is gone! You're driving us to a dead end, bastard!"
Jacob Wilson felt bitter knowing Christopher had fifteen million.
Jacob Wilson said, "No wonder! You transferred all the money to Hannah, didn't you?"
Christopher huffed, "It's none of your business!"
Jacob Wilson sighed. "Brother, you gave Hannah so much money. Even if she doesn't want to cheat, many young men dream of a rich woman's support. They'd cling to her like a lifebuoy!"
"What do you mean?" Christopher demanded, frowning.
Jacob Wilson pretended to be shocked. "Haven't you read those online cases? Young men target rich older women, seduce them, then say, 'Ah, I don't want to work anymore.' Then, the women give them cars, houses, or even elope with them!"
Jacob Wilson shook his head regretfully. "Fifteen million, Chris! How many young men are surrounding Hannah? I'm afraid she can't resist!"
