The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 691-695

Chapter 691

Just as Jasmine, Xyla, and Dr. Simmons were sighing over Kian's affairs, Jacob Wilson, Charlie Wade's father-in-law, donned a suit, cheerfully left his home, and took a taxi to Heaven Springs restaurant. He planned to enjoy an evening of wine. Leaving his BMW at home, he entrusted the keys to Charlie Wade for a later pickup.

Recently, Jacob's only hobbies were studying antiques, cultural relics, calligraphy, and painting. He had recently joined the Calligraphy and Painting Association, and this dinner was crucial to securing a position as a standing director. To show respect to the association's leaders, he used the $20,000 Charlie Wade had sent him to reserve a bronze box at Heaven Springs. While the least expensive box, it was still superior to most other restaurants.

Upon his arrival, Don Albertt was en route. The waiter, unfamiliar with Jacob, led him directly to his reserved box. Finding himself alone, Jacob patiently waited for the other guests.

A few minutes later, a middle-aged man entered. After greeting Jacob, the man, David Phillips (a standing director of the association and a friend of Jacob's), inquired about his arrival time.

Jacob explained that heโ€™d arrived early, eager to meet the chairman and executive directors. He and Mr. Phillips shared a passion for antique calligraphy and painting, often scouring antique streets together. Knowing Jacob's aspirations, Mr. Phillips was among the first to offer his support. His presence had significantly influenced the other guests' attendance.

Mr. Phillips, after complimentary remarks about Jacobโ€™s thoughtfulness, subtly warned him about the competitiveness of the executive director position, citing Samuel Yount as a major rival. He hinted that Samuel was actively courting the chairman and other directors with gifts.

Chapter 692

Jacob frowned at the mention of Samuel Yount, dismissing him as a frivolous spender. Mr. Phillips emphasized the need for Jacob to secure the support of several executive directors and even the chairman to win the internal vote.

Jacob, grateful for the advice, pledged to heed Mr. Phillips's words. Mr. Phillips suggested they wait for the other guests at the box's entrance to appear more sincere.

Shortly, other association members arrived, culminating in the arrival of Chairman Price, treated with almost star-like deference. Mr. Phillips and Jacob greeted him respectfully.

Chairman Price, feigning disapproval, jokingly chided Jacob for the extravagance of the Heaven Springs reservation, a remark masking his genuine appreciation. He knew that a less prestigious venue would have resulted in his immediate departure. Jacob quickly responded, emphasizing the importance of showing respect to the esteemed guests. He then urged everyone to be seated.

Chapter 693

Suddenly, Samuel Yount, Jacob's rival, interjected, criticizing the bronze box as insufficiently respectful to the chairman and executive directors. Jacob, angered by the uninvited interference, retorted sharply, pointing out that he hadn't extended an invitation to Samuel.

Samuel countered that the dinner's purpose was obviousโ€”Jacob's bid for the executive directorshipโ€”and the bronze box was insufficiently impressive to win over the chairman and directors. He then revealed that he had reserved a golden box upstairs, suggesting they move there.

This revelation shocked everyone. Even Chairman Price had never dined in the highly coveted golden box. The contrast to Jacob's bronze box was stark, shifting everyone's favor towards Samuel.

Chairman Price, after gauging the group's clear preference, suggested a move to the golden box. Jacob was devastated, feeling his meticulously planned dinner had been sabotaged.

Chapter 694

Samuel Yount, with a smug expression, sarcastically invited Jacob to join them, further humiliating him. Jacob, enraged, retorted that he had visited the Glorious Club's tenth floor, a claim met with immediate disbelief. Samuel mocked him as a "stinky silkworm" who ate soft rice, implying his son-in-law's influence was the only way he could've accessed such exclusive places.

Jacob, frustrated, explained that his son-in-law had arranged the visit with old classmates. Samuel's continued mocking, and the group's disbelief, only fueled Jacob's anger. He insisted on his son-in-law's ability to obtain such exclusive access, regardless of his own reputation as a "live-in son-in-law". Samuel argued that if Jacob truly had this access, he would have invited the chairman to the Glorious Club instead of booking a bronze box. Jacob was unable to convincingly refute these claims. Samuel subtly insinuated that Jacob lacked respect for the chairman and directors.

Chapter 695

Samuel Yount's skillful manipulation left Jacob speechless, and he was unable to offer a suitable rebuttal. Samuel, dismissing Jacob's perceived lack of suitability, turned his attention to the others, securing their favor and effectively ensuring his own success. Mr. Phillips, however, urged Jacob not to give up.

Jacob, regaining his composure, agreed to join them in the golden box. The group's awe at the golden box's luxury was palpable. Samuel Yount boasted of his friendship with Don Albertt (which was false, as the booking was achieved through expensive means), enhancing his reputation even further. His comments angered Jacob, who challenged Samuel's behaviour and status within the association. Samuel's condescending response further fueled the conflict, showcasing his disregard for Jacobโ€™s feelings.
