The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 831-835
Chapter 831
At dinner, Claire Wilson barely touched her food. She repeatedly tried calling Elaine Ma and sending WeChat messages, but received no response.
Jacob Wilson appeared relaxed. He secretly hoped Elaine Ma would run away, like Hannah, freeing him from her.
Claire anxiously suggested going to the police station. Jacob scoffed, "Claire, your mother's an adult. Mind your own business. If she wants to leave, let her. You can't force the police to bring her back, can you?"
"But, Dad," Claire protested, "Mom's dreamt of living in the Thompson First villa. She won't leave now! You've lived with her so long, you should know her!"
Jacob fell silent, realizing his daughter was right. Elaine Ma was vain and pleasure-seeking. Leaving on the day they moved into the Thompson First villa was unlike her. He frowned, wondering if something truly unexpected had happened.
Despite disliking Elaine Ma, Jacob felt a strange emptiness at the thought of something happening to her. He felt uneasy simply staying home.
Sighing, he said, "Let's eat. We'll go out afterward."
Relieved, Claire suggested, "Dad, let's split up. I'll call the police; you check the mahjong parlors Mom frequents."
"Okay," Jacob agreed.
Charlie Wade offered, "Wife, let me go to the police station with you."
Claire declined, "One person's enough. You go with Dad."
Charlie, concerned, asked Loreen to accompany Claire. Loreen readily agreed.
The four quickly finished dinner and split into two cars. Claire and Loreen went to the police station; Charlie and Jacob went to search mahjong parlors.
Before leaving, Charlie messaged Cameron Isaac: "My wife's calling the police. Alert the station. Don't reveal my mother-in-law's whereabouts."
Cameron replied, "Young Master, don't worry. Young Madam won't find any information on Elaine Ma."
Charlie relaxed. En route, Charlie asked Jacob, "Dad, where should we look?"
Jacob sighed, "I don't know her favorite parlors. Let's just drive around and check."
Charlie secretly smiled. Jacob was merely going through the motions for Claire. They searched several parlors without success, but Jacob wasn't worried; he was simply playing along. He didn't truly care about Elaine Ma's whereabouts.
Chapter 832
After the unsuccessful search, Jacob suggested, "Charlie, should we go home or grab some skewers? Dinner was too stressful."
Charlie agreed, suggesting a nearby barbecue stall.
They ordered skewers and beer and sat down to eat. Charlie was pleased Elaine Ma was missing. Jacob, too, felt relieved after years of Elaine Ma's torment.
As they began eating, Claire called. Charlie winked at Jacob, answered the phone, and asked, "Honey, did you call the police?"
Claire sounded frustrated. "We did, but the police said Mom's an adult, and it's been less than ten hours. They can't immediately send officers, but the missing person report is filed."
Charlie reassured her, "That's right. A few hours isn't enough for a large-scale search. The police have more pressing matters."
Claire remained worried, "It feels strange. I'm afraid something's happened to her. Her temperamentshe could easily get into trouble."
(Charlie's internal monologue: She's a real vixen!)
Claire understood Elaine Ma's nature. Charlie sighed inwardly. Since marrying Claire and joining the Wilsons, he'd been lucky to have such a kind and good wife in a family full of difficult people—from Elaine Ma to the Lady, to Christopher's family. Jacob was the only somewhat decent person, but even he was cowardly. Claire's goodness stood out.
He considered Elaine Ma's future. Keeping her around would only cause problems for Claire. Sooner or later, he'd have to deal with his brain-dead mother-in-law, but first, she needed to suffer. He also had to address the hidden danger of Elaine Ma discovering the bank card and potentially revealing the scam to Claire.
Chapter 833
Claire impatiently asked about their progress.
Charlie, looking at the food, lied, "We're still searching mahjong parlors; no luck yet."
Claire sighed, "Keep looking. Loreen and I will, too."
Charlie hurriedly agreed.
After Claire hung up, Jacob was ready to continue eating and drinking. He poured Charlie a beer. "Son-in-law, let's enjoy this peace. Cheers!"
Charlie found the situation humorous. He agreed but cautioned Jacob to drink moderately.
Jacob laughed, "I'm happy! I hope your mother gets a taste of her own medicine in that MLM organization. A few years in there won't kill her. Let's celebrate her absence in a few years."
Charlie agreed, adding that Elaine Ma might not accept it easily.
Jacob sighed, "That's right. She's too blindly filial. Is she worthy of it? You have no blood relation to her. Would you be filial to a mother like that?"
Charlie, slightly embarrassed, said he would be filial to his mother if she were still alive, even if she had a worse temperament than his mother-in-law.
Jacob agreed, apologizing for the comparison. He mentioned how Claire’s grandmother and Elaine Ma were similar – both shrews. He stated that he wouldn't let his own mother live with him if she were on the streets because she was a bad person.
Charlie agreed. Jacob continued, contrasting his difficult marriage with Charlie’s happy one, highlighting the difference between marrying a "good" woman versus a "bitch."
Charlie felt sympathy for Jacob. He then intentionally asked about Jacob's first love, Matilda.
Chapter 834
Jacob lamented his lost love, Matilda, whom he was to marry before he was manipulated into a situation with Elaine Ma. Matilda then went to the U.S. never to see him again.
Charlie asked if Jacob still thought of her. Jacob admitted he did; she was his first and only love.
Charlie asked if he'd tried to find her. Jacob had but only knew she had married an American and had a son, her family doing well.
Charlie thought Matilda would feel differently if she knew Jacob's current circumstances.
Jacob asked Charlie to drink more, and then his phone rang, showing an unknown number. It was Matilda.
Jacob was stunned.
Matilda’s voice was gentle, asking if he was Jacob.
Jacob asked who she was, and Matilda revealed her identity and explained that she and her son were returning to Aurouss Hill to settle.
Jacob was thrilled. Matilda was returning after over 20 years. He asked when she was arriving, and she said tomorrow around 11 AM. She planned to meet with old classmates the day after tomorrow.
He asked about her husband, and Matilda revealed that he had passed away, leading to her decision to return to China with her son.
Jacob blurted out an invitation to meet her for a meal at the airport.
Matilda mentioned Elaine Ma’s potential reaction.
Jacob said Elaine Ma and he had separated.
Matilda, surprised, asked for details. Jacob explained briefly, saying they were separated, and Elaine Ma wouldn't care. Matilda agreed to meet at the airport, suggesting that Jacob bring a sign to help them recognize each other.
Chapter 835
Jacob was ecstatic. He couldn't believe Matilda was returning after more than 20 years. He was so excited, he was jumping and pacing around. Charlie watched him with amusement. Charlie asked if Jacob’s first love was returning.
