Chapter 836

"Yes!" Jacob Wilson exclaimed excitedly. "The key is that her husband is dead, haha! Isn't this God helping me too?!"

Charlie Wade nodded, then said, "Dad, but Mom isn't dead"

Jacob Wilson's expression immediately cooled, and he said awkwardly, "Don't get me wrong, I didn't wish her death."

He sighed. "You said if she were like Hannah, she'd have eloped; that would be great"

Charlie Wade shook his head helplessly. Jacob Wilson's heart, he feared, had completely turned to Matilda, who was about to return home. His faint feelings for Elaine Ma had vanished.

Charlie Wade sighed. "If Claire could accept that Mom's disappearance is an elopement, that would be great." If Claire treated Elaine as poorly as Jacob, he'd make Elaine disappear in minutes. For someone like Elaine, living comfortably was too good. It would be better to send her to a coal mine to work alongside Hannah. Hannah's gang probably hated Elaine; she'd undoubtedly face constant beatings there.

It was a pity that Claire was too kind, too tolerant of Elaine.

Jacob Wilson was in a good mood, eating and drinking heartily. He kept urging Charlie Wade to drink, but Charlie subtly avoided it. He still hoped to marry Claire that night; alcohol would be a distraction.

After a late dinner, Claire called Charlie to check on the situation.

Charlie said, "We haven't found her. I guess Mom didn't go out to play mahjong. Where are you?"

Claire said anxiously, "I've contacted some of Mom's friends, but found no clues."

Charlie said, "Why don't we stop searching tonight? Let's go home and wait. The police have a missing person report; they'll investigate. What do you think?"

"Hey" Claire sighed. "That's all we can do. Loreen and I are heading back now. You and Dad should come home too."

"Okay," Charlie replied, hanging up. He told Jacob, "Dad, let's go."

Jacob patted his thigh. "Go! Let's go home, bathe, and sleep. You'll accompany me to the airport tomorrow morning."

Charlie asked in surprise, "I'm going?"

"Of course," Jacob said. "Matilda's bringing her son. We'll reminisce. Her son's just an extra; you can talk to him, creating a chance for Matilda and me to chat privately."

"Okay," Charlie agreed. "I'll go with you tomorrow."

"Oh, right," Jacob said sheepishly. "Son-in-law, your father's broke. I'll pay you back for the furniture. Tomorrow, will you help me arrange a table at the Shangri-La?"

"Okay, I'll arrange it," Charlie said. He didn't mind helping his father-in-law.

Charlie messaged Cameron Isaac to reserve a good, but not the best, table at the Shangri-La.

Meanwhile, in the detention center

Chapter 837

Elaine Ma lay hungry on her wooden bed, enduring the pain. Her stomach rumbled.

Gena cursed, "Elaine Ma, if you groan again, I'll drag you to the toilet!"

Elaine hadn't eaten in over twelve hours and had been beaten. She couldn't stop her stomach from crying out, but feared offending Gena.

Her stomach rumbled again.

Gena slapped Elaine, whose swollen face was further damaged. Elaine apologized, but her speech was slurred due to missing teeth.

Gena slapped her again. "Damn it! Speak clearly!"

Elaine yelled, "I didn't mean it! I'm sorry!" Saliva sprayed Gena's face.

Gena grabbed Elaine's hair, dragged her to the toilet, and pressed her to the floor. Elaine struggled, but no one helped. Mrs. Wilson watched, smiling.

"Gena, let her sleep in the toilet tonight!"

Gena slapped Elaine. "If you leave the toilet tonight, I'll kill you!"

Elaine's face was swollen and bruised. She whimpered, begging to be left alone.

Gena sneered, "Your good days are over!" She kicked Elaine before leaving.

Mrs. Wilson sneered, "Elaine Ma, you're an unfilial dog. You enjoyed Thompson First, yet you've fallen to this. It proves you never truly belonged there!"

Elaine pleaded, "Mom, I'm sorry. Please tell Gena to stop."

Mrs. Wilson coldly snorted, "Do you think I don't know you? If it weren't for Gena and the other inmates, you'd just fight me. You haven't truly changed!"

Mrs. Wilson knew Elaine wouldn't truly change; only circumstance would force it. She felt no kindness toward Elaine, remembering her humiliation at Thompson First.

Chapter 838

Mrs. Wilson coldly said, "This is the result of your actions. Enjoy it! This is only the first day; fourteen more to go!"

Alone, hungry, and cold, Elaine cried silently, fearing Gena. She'd suffered more in one day than in decades past. She panicked at the thought of fourteen more days with Mrs. Wilson.

While Elaine cried in the detention center toilet, Charlie and Jacob returned to the Thompson First villa. Jacob was humming happily.

Claire and Loreen were already home. Claire rushed toward them.

"Dad, Charlie, how many mahjong parlors did you visit?"

Jacob said guiltily, "Many! We looked everywhere."

Claire asked, "With no results?"

Jacob waved his hand. "Claire, your mother's a strong woman. At worst, she's been scammed by an MLM. Don't worry…"

Claire cried, "What if she's had an accident? So many disappearances are reported online… most with bad outcomes!"

Jacob said, "Don't be so dramatic. Your mother's not worth robbing. She's not rich or pretty!"

Claire angrily said, "Dad, how can you say that?!"

Jacob, preoccupied with Matilda and slightly drunk, didn't care about Elaine.

He continued, "She's unattractive, so what danger could she be in?" He added, "You don't know your mother's temper. Who dares provoke her?"

Claire was speechless, then asked angrily, "Dad! Were you drinking?!"

Chapter 839

Claire smelled alcohol on Jacob. He'd said he was looking for her mother, but he'd been drinking!

Jacob stammered, "I didn't drink!"

Claire stomped. "I smell alcohol on you! You must have been drinking!" She pointed to oil stains on his collar. "Mom has disappeared, and you're eating and drinking happily!"

Jacob said, "I… I really didn't…"

Claire said, "Dad, do you think I believe you?"

Jacob looked at Charlie. "Charlie Wade asked me to go." He winked at Charlie.

Charlie nodded. "Yes, that's right. I asked him to drink." Charlie knew Jacob was drunk; saying it was his idea would make Claire less likely to believe him.

Claire stomped. "Dad, you're shifting the blame to Charlie Wade! Can't you be a little manly?"

Jacob said, "I'm telling the truth." He quickly added, "I'm tired. I'm going to bed." He fled.

Claire looked at Charlie. "You too! You said you were looking for mahjong parlors, but you were eating and drinking with my dad!"

Charlie coughed. "Dad said he was hungry. I couldn't leave him hungry and run around. He might faint."

"You can't lie to me! Tell me the truth; were you eating?"

Charlie felt they'd mishandled the situation, especially Jacob's behavior. So he apologized. "I'm sorry, my wife. Dad asked me not to tell you."

Claire believed that it was Dad's idea, and Charlie was forced to go along. Her anger subsided, but she felt wronged.

"Charlie, Mom is missing, my dad doesn't care, neither do you. How can I find her alone? If something happens to her, how will I live? I might never forgive myself!"

Charlie comforted her, "Don't worry too much, Mom will be fine."

Chapter 840

Claire couldn't hear him and said, "Forget it. I'll go to my room."

She left, and Charlie sighed. Elaine Ma was a difficult problem. He couldn't kill her, and he couldn't make her disappear.

He needed to make her shut up and not talk nonsense, but how? Psychological suggestion was unreliable; it could turn her into someone else entirely. He needed her to willingly keep quiet.

Loreen, who had been waiting for a chance to speak to Charlie, said, "Charlie, don't be angry with her. She's anxious about her aunt…"

Charlie nodded. "I know, she's my wife."

Loreen's eyes flashed with envy. She didn't understand why Charlie was so devoted to Claire, especially knowing their marriage was fake. She felt a loss.

She asked him, "Charlie Wade, you know what I want, but do you have no feelings for me?"

Charlie said, "Loreen, you're Claire's best friend, and Claire is my wife. There are many good men out there. You don't need to fixate on me. I'm married."

Loreen's eyes were red. "You're not really married, just acting. What will you do when the act ends?"

Charlie looked at her, smiled, and wiped away her tears. "Believe me, this act will never end!"
