Chapter 841

Loreen felt Charlie Wade's gentleness as he wiped away her tears. Simultaneously, she heard his unwavering confession to Claire Wilson, and her heart ached.

In a hoarse voice, she said, "Charlie Wade, if Claire truly loves you, I won't interfere. But you know she's with you because of her grandfather's promise. Are you truly sure of your feelings? Why not let your life begin anew?"

Sobbing, she asked, "How am I inferior to Claire? Tell me. I'll try to improve. Don't refuse so quickly; give me a chance."

Charlie Wade stood, shaking his head. "Loreen, sometimes you don't understand men. Your initial kindness mirrored mine. That's enough for me to stay with Claire. Whether she loves me isn't urgent. I have time to understand, explore, and even change. Just as you did, despite my repeated assertions that I'm married and only interested in Claire, you continued to confess."

Loreen understood. Charlie's feelings for Claire mirrored her own for him. This realization, however, brought discomfort. Just as Charlie wouldn't give up Claire, Loreen wouldn't give up Charlie.

Wiping her eyes, she looked at him stubbornly. "You won't give up Claire, and I won't give up on you. Since you can wait for Claire, I can wait for you, no matter how long. I'll wait forever!"

Charlie Wade sighed. "Since you've decided, I respect your decision." Checking the time, he added, "It's late. Go to your room and rest."

Loreen nodded. "You go first. I'll sit here for a while."

Charlie Wade hummed in acknowledgement and went upstairs. Loreen sat on the sofa, wrestling with a mix of resentment, unwillingness, sadness, and obsession. She felt Charlie might be the only man she'd ever wholeheartedly love. Without him, she'd never find someone who stirred such excitement. The thought of never having him saddened her.

Was she destined to miss him? No, she refused to believe it! God wouldn't orchestrate a sad ending after twice saving her. He would surely provide a happy ending if she persevered with sincerity. Persevere until victory!

Chapter 842

When Charlie Wade gently opened his bedroom door, Claire Wilson stood alone on the second-floor balcony. Her figure, hazy and enchanting in the moonlight, made his heart race.

Claire is good and filial, but her goodness makes her insist on not divorcing him. She's foolishly filial to Elaine Ma and foolishly loyal to him. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. Wilson passed away. The Wilson family urged Claire to divorce Charlie. Her marriage was based on her father's wishes, and everyone opposed it. They wanted her to marry a wealthy young master to improve the family's fortune.

However, Claire felt that marriage was a commitment, and she wouldn't divorce him. This was her loyalty to her marriage and husband.

Chapter 843

If Claire hadn't possessed this stubborn "stupidity," she would have divorced. What kind of life would Charlie have had? He didn't dare to imagine. Before marrying Claire, his life was difficult. Orphanages didn't accept adults, so on his eighteenth birthday, Mrs. Lewis celebrated with a frugal cake and tearfully sent him away.

He was alone and helpless. Mrs. Lewis wanted to help him find work and provide an allowance, but he couldn't bring himself to ask. He found a construction site, moving bricks, sand, and cement at age 18. He lived in a prefabricated house on the site, ate cheaply, and did the hardest, dirtiest work. He kept only a small portion of his earnings for himself, donating the rest to the orphanage.

In his fourth year, his construction team worked on a Wilson family project. Grandpa Wilson, inspecting the site, immediately noticed Charlie's resemblance to his own younger self. Grandpa Wilson knew Charlie's grandfather because the Wilson family had served the Wade family a hundred years prior! Grandpa Wilson's father was a Wade family servant, as were subsequent generations.

The head of the Wade family was around Grandpa Wilson's age, and he knew the elder Wilson's father. After the war, the Wade family dismissed most servants with generous settlements. Grandpa Wilson returned home with his settlement. Seeing Charlie, he believed him to be a Wade descendant. After questioning, Charlie revealed his family history.

Grandpa Wilson knelt and thanked the Wade family for their kindness. He then took Charlie back to the Wilson family and insisted on marrying him to his granddaughter, Claire. He didn't know Charlie's potential, but felt Wade descendants shouldn't work on construction sites. The Wilson family felt obligated to care for this young Wade family member.

Chapter 844

Reflecting on the past, Charlie felt emotion. Only two Wilson family members treated him well: Mr. Wilson (deceased) and Claire. Mr. Wilson is gone, and Claire is the only one left who is genuinely kind. Seeing Claire's sadness on the balcony, Charlie approached her. "Claire, don't worry. Mom will be safe."

Claire retorted, "You don't care about her, so you don't think anything will happen. Even if something does, you won't be sad."

Charlie sighed, comforting her, "Wife, I know you're worried, but don't you think her character will benefit from a little hardship?"

Claire replied, "I understand, but it must be within a controllable level. Personal danger is uncontrollable…"

Charlie nodded. "Let's rest. We'll search again tomorrow."

Claire hesitated, then nodded. "I'll go to the police station tomorrow to check on progress. If she's not found, they'll contact Blue Sky Rescue."

"Yeah," Charlie said, "Blue Sky Rescue has strong social connections. Finding her shouldn't be a problem."

"I hope so…" Claire said, turning to her room. Charlie followed, excited. He could finally sleep with his wife! But then Claire took out bedding, looking at him angrily. "You're sleeping on the floor tonight!"

Chapter 845

"What?!" Charlie asked. "Wife, haven't I earned a promotion? I've been stuck for three years!"

Claire, ashamed and angry, stomped her foot. "That was before. The situation changed! The upgrade will be delayed!"

"When?" Charlie asked, dejected.

"Until Mom comes home!" Claire snapped.

Charlie was stunned. Elaine Ma, Elaine Ma, you are so lingering! Claire was already in bed. "Don't sneak in! Or I'll send you to the first-floor bedroom!"

Charlie sighed. "Okay, wife. No upgrade until Mom returns."

That night, Charlie was depressed and annoyed with Elaine Ma. If she hadn't stolen her black card, things wouldn't be like this! He should be sleeping in the master bedroom. He would have to teach her a lesson!

Upstairs, Jacob Wilson couldn't sleep, thinking about Matilda. He was eager to see her again.

The next morning, Jacob Wilson was unusually energetic. He showered, shaved, combed his hair, and found a high-end suit he hadn't worn in years. He looked at himself in the mirror, ten years younger.

He went downstairs to find Claire and Loreen drinking milk, with Charlie cooking. Loreen complimented his suit. Claire asked him why he was dressed up.

He said he had an appointment with an old friend returning from abroad. He informed them he wouldn't be home for dinner. Claire protested, reminding him that her mother was missing.

Jacob said he couldn't break his appointment. Claire argued that finding her mother should be more important than meeting an old classmate. Jacob said the meeting was definitely more important. Claire was speechless, realizing her father likely was meeting a female classmate – his first love.

Jacob stated, "This world doesn't revolve around your mother. We have our own needs. You can focus on your mother, but you can't force us to." He continued, "If she's not found, am I supposed to do nothing else? If she's gone forever, am I doomed to search for her until I die? I'd rather run away!"

Claire, though knowing his words were partially untrue, conceded. "Go to your appointment. But afterward, help find my mother!"

Jacob readily agreed. Charlie, entering with breakfast, complimented Jacob's appearance. Claire told Charlie to accompany his father and then search for his mother at places like mahjong halls. Charlie agreed.

In the detention center, Elaine Ma slept in the toilet all night, hungry and trembling. She asked Gena for food, afraid of being beaten again if she took it directly. Gena sneered and told her to take what she wanted.
