Charlie Wade was clueless. He simply mimicked the protesting senior citizens. While they shouted, he asked his uncle to explain the situation. It turned out that Axel Insurance had offered investment packages promising extremely high returns. These seniors, attracted by the high returns, had purchased numerous insurance products.
According to their contract, today was dividend payout day. However, when they arrived to collect their money, the office was locked, and only a few employees were present, offering unsatisfactory excuses. They soon realized they were victims of an investment fraud. Unsurprisingly, Elaine Ma had urged him to join the protest.
Charlie Wade rubbed his temples in frustration. He asked Elaine Ma, "Mom, how much did you invest?"
Elaine Ma said hysterically, "They claimed we'd receive huge rewards, so I invested all our savingsโฆ"
Charlie Wade gaped in shock. "What? You used all your savings?"
Elaine Ma, ashamed and upset, screamed, "Do you think you're the only one who can speak? Do you think I'm not ashamed enough?"
Still furious, she continued to berate Charlie Wade. "If you were even slightly competent, do you think I would have bought these fraudulent policies? If I don't buy insurance for my old age, do you think you'll support me?" She added scornfully, "This useless man can't even support his own family, and he's stirring up trouble here?!"
Then, she growled, "I warn you, stop shouting!"
Charlie Wade pursed his lips. "Okay, Mom."
Several women approached, eyeing Charlie Wade. "Elaine Ma, is that your son-in-law?" they asked.
They then examined his clothes and mocked, "Oh my goodness, he looks so shabby! He's not even half as good as my son-in-law!" Another chimed in, "Look at his clothes! They're so outdated and worn! I dress better than him!"
Charlie Wade ignored them. They were just elderly women who had lost their savings; he wouldn't stoop to their level.
Elaine Ma, increasingly upset by the taunts, muttered to Charlie Wade, "Just wait, I'll have my daughter divorce you and marry a rich man in a few days!"
Charlie Wade smirked, thinking, "A rich husband? Even if you combined all the rich young men in Aurous Hill, they wouldn't be worth the clasp on my belt."
Elaine Ma was frantic. She couldn't rely on the useless Charlie Wade; all he could do was shout at the protest. She needed someone capable to help recover her money. Wendell, who had been pursuing her daughter, was now bankrupt. Otherwise, she would have asked him for help.
She suddenly remembered Kevin, Gerald's relative she met at the reception yesterday. The White family, though not as prestigious as the Jones family, were still influential in the city. Fortunately, Kevin had given her his business card.
