The Amazing Son-in-Law (Chapters 31-35)
Chapter 31
Elaine Ma trembled violently on the floor, eyes squeezed shut, awaiting an attack. The expected blow never came. Instead, Charlie Wade, her seemingly inept son-in-law, appeared and grabbed the assailant's wrist. Stunned, Elaine felt overwhelmed. Why was Charlie suddenly so brave?
Don Albertt was equally surprised by this unexpected intervention. He growled, "Who are you? Do you want to die?"
Charlie Wade smirked. "You're Don Albertt, aren't you? You can beat that man, but leave my mother-in-law alone!"
A dark scowl crossed Albertt's face. "She's your mother-in-law? What makes you think I'll help you?"
Enraged at the perceived slight, Albertt roared at his men, "Beat the hell out of this punk!"
Charlie Wade maintained his calm smile. "Not so fast. Let me make a call."
He called Cameron Isaac, Dreamland's general manager. Isaac responded respectfully, "Young Master, what can I do for you?"
Charlie Wade casually asked, "Do you know Albert Rhodes, aka Don Albertt?"
Isaac chuckled nervously. "Yes, they say he runs the underworld, but he's just a small-time gangster to me. He's been trying to ingratiate himself, but I've ignored him. Why? Do you know him?"
Charlie Wade replied, "He's trying to kill me."
A loud smack was heard over the phone. "Damn it! That bastard! He's asking for death! Where are you? I'll send someone to cripple him!"
Charlie Wade handed the phone to Albertt. "Take it."
Albertt was perplexed. Charlie's appearanceโcheap clothes and phoneโdidn't suggest significant influence. Yet, who could he have called for support?
Hesitantly, Albertt took the phone. "I'm Don Albertt. Who are you? How dare you defend this man?"
Isaac's furious voice boomed, "Albert Rhodes! You f***ing bastard! You angered my Young Master! I'll wipe out your entire family tonight!"
Chapter 32
The name Cameron Isaac registered instantly with Albertt. He had been trying to curry favor with this man! Isaac knew about his family's size. He'd thoroughly investigated him! Cameron Isaac represented the Wade family, a powerful force that could crush him effortlessly.
Fear paralyzed Albertt. He stammered, "Mr. Cameron, please calm down."
"Shut up!" Isaac shouted, "Our Young Master's identity is confidential. Leak it, and I'll destroy you and your family!"
Albertt trembled violently, apologizing profusely. The Wade family's power was far beyond his comprehension. He had directly angered their young master!
Albertt turned to Charlie Wade, panic-stricken. "Mr. Wade, I'm so sorry! I didn't know she was your mother-in-law! I apologize!"
He knelt before Charlie, shocking everyone present. Even Mr. White paled in comparison to this young man. Albertt's men were astonished. Their underworld king was kneeling before him? What was his background?
Charlie Wade had no intention of killing Albertt. His men had attacked his mother-in-law, not him. He admitted to finding his mother-in-law's beating "remarkable".
He told Albertt, "I'll forgive you, but return every penny you stole, with interest!"
Albertt, relieved, immediately agreed. He ordered Axel to retrieve the money.
Elaine Ma was astonished. Had her loser son-in-law suddenly become powerful?
Axel arrived with a suitcase, pale and nervous. "Auntie, your initial investment was 1.3 million, plus 200,000 in returns. Here's 2 million. The extra 500,000 is an apology."
Chapter 33
Elaine Ma was overjoyed and incredulous. Her money had increased from 1.3 million to 2 million!
Seeing this, other elderly investors demanded their money back.
Albertt, heartbroken to lose his ill-gotten gains, but fearing the Wade family, reluctantly agreed to return everyone's money, claiming it was for Charlie's sake.
Charlie Wade's cold voice cut through the air. "Don Albertt, 'for my sake'? I have nothing to do with these people. Are you blackmailing me?"
Albertt stammered an apology, but Charlie insisted he had no responsibility for the other investors' funds. He warned Albertt against repaying them without his approval.
Albertt quickly obeyed, ordering his men to ignore the others.
The elderly investors pleaded with Charlie, but he ignored them. How dare they now seek his help after witnessing Albertt's subservience?
Albertt, enraged by their pleas, silenced them with threats. He then asked about Kevin and Charlie's relationship. Charlie denied knowing Kevin, leaving him at Albertt's mercy.
Kevin, terrified, begged for Charlie's help.
Chapter 34
Charlie coldly refused, reminding Kevin of his past taunts.
Albertt's men brutally beat Kevin.
Albertt asked Charlie if he was satisfied. Charlie simply nodded and left.
Albertt gave Charlie his card, offering his services.
Charlie left with Elaine Ma, who was delighted with her unexpected financial gain.
The elderly investors, realizing their mistake, profusely apologized to Charlie, wishing they had a son-in-law like him. They begged him to help them recover their money.
Chapter 35
Charlie and Elaine parted ways. Elaine went to the bank, and Charlie went home.
Claire Wilson excitedly told Charlie that her best friend Loreen, daughter of a wealthy Eastcliff family, was coming to work for Emgrand Group.
Charlie found it odd that Loreen would leave her family's business for a job in Aurouss Hilll.
Claire asked Charlie to pick Loreen up from the airport and take her to lunch. Charlie agreed, offering to make a reservation at a friend's restaurant rather than use Claire's card.
He contacted Don Albertt to reserve a table at a high-end restaurant, excluding Shangri-La. Albertt offered Paradise Springs, booking the best room and feast.
The next day, Claire had a meeting at Emgrand Group, and Charlie called Doris to inquire about Loreen's arrival. Doris was surprised Charlie knew about it.
