The Amazing Son in Law, Chapter 36
Charlie Wade had hired Loreen to monitor Doris and report any irregularities. After speaking with Doris, he took a taxi to the airport to pick Loreen up. As he exited the taxi at the terminal, a Mercedes-Benz G-Class screeched to a halt in front of him. Harold, Claire Wilson's cousin, leaned out the window and scowled at Charlie. "Why are you here?"
"I'm here to pick up Claire's friend. Why are you here?" Charlie frowned, recognizing Gerald and Wendy in the car with Harold.
Harold sneered. "You mean Miss Thomas? We're here to entertain her; you're redundant. Get lost!"
Charlie snorted. "You get lost." He ignored them and walked into the arrivals hall.
Harold's face flushed, and he started to swear, but Wendy quickly pulled on his arm. "Hey, Miss Thomas will be here soon. Granny told you to make a good impression. If you can make her your girlfriend, your standing in the family will be unmatched! Just leave the loser alone."
Harold, realizing his sister's seriousness, suppressed his anger toward Charlie. The second item on his agenda was welcoming Loreen.
Her long maroon hair cascaded down her back; she wore a white dress that showed off her beautiful figure. Her features and physique were at least as striking as Claire's, possessing their own unique charm.
Harold was stunned. Gerald, too, was amazed by her beauty. "She truly lives up to her reputation as the daughter of Eastcliff's prominent family."
Loreen spotted them and strode toward them. "Harold, Wendy, and Charlie Wade! Hi, long time no see!"
Harold's heart pounded. "Hey, Loreen, long time no see. You've become even more beautiful."
Charlie smiled politely. "Hi, it's been a while."
Harold interjected. "Loreen, I reserved a suite at the best hotel in Aurous Hill in anticipation of your arrival. Come, let's go."
Loreen eyed Charlie before apologetically telling Harold, "Harold, I'm sorry, I've already accepted Claire and Charlie's invitation. Let's have drinks another time. I'll be in Aurous Hill for a while; we'll have plenty of opportunities to meet."
Annoyance simmered in Harold's heart, replacing his earlier enthusiasm. Charlie had ruined this crucial moment! He glared contemptuously at Charlie. "I wonder which restaurant my lowly cousin-in-law booked?"
The Amazing Son in Law, Chapter 37
Charlie was surprised to hear Harold had also booked a suite at Heaven Springs. Didn't Don Albert own Heaven Springs? He'd reserved a suite there, too. Gerald gaped. "Wow, Harold, you actually managed to book the Golden Suite at Heaven Springs? Not everyone can do that!"
Harold chuckled triumphantly, though it was mostly boasting.
Loreen knew of Heaven Springs. She said, "We're all friends; you don't need to make such lavish plans just for me."
Harold said coyly, "Oh no, you're our honored guest. How could I treat you like an average friend?" He turned to Charlie. "Hey, I wonder which restaurant you booked?"
Charlie said flatly, "What a coincidence, I made a reservation at Heaven Springs, too."
Harold laughed. "Charlie Wade, aren't you worried about choking on your senseless boasting?"
Charlie shrugged. "Even if I am, what's it to you? I'm not inviting you to dinner; why do you care so much?"
Harold sneered. "Huh! I don't think you can even get through the door!"
Loreen, witnessing the exchange, couldn't bear to see Charlie targeted. She knew his precarious position in the Wilson family—financially and emotionally abused—and that it was highly unlikely he'd reserved a top restaurant suite for her. She figured he'd lied to maintain his dignity and, wanting to spare him further embarrassment, quickly said, "Hey, let's stop arguing. Since you both booked at the same place, why don't we go together?"
Harold glared at Charlie. "Alright, for Loreen's sake, I'll let you have a free meal today and let you see what a high-end restaurant looks like!"
Charlie smirked, ignoring the sarcasm. Don Albert would practically bow before him; what did Harold's restaurant matter? Harold's arrogance was blinding him!
The interior was charmingly classic and luxurious, the door sign made of high-grade yellow rosewood. Charlie was awestruck.
Loreen exclaimed, "I've heard of Heaven Springs; it lives up to its reputation."
Harold smiled. "Loreen, I had to bring you to the best place, naturally." He glanced mockingly at Charlie. "Unlike someone here. If not for you, he'd probably never have the chance to visit such an upscale restaurant in his lifetime."
The Amazing Son in Law, Chapter 38
Wendy asked with a sly smile, "Charlie Wade, didn't you also make a reservation here? Which suite? Let's see it!"
Charlie said, "I didn't specify a suite. I just texted their boss and asked him to arrange it. Let me check the message."
Harold sneered. "Shut your mouth! It's the renowned Don Albert Rhodes!"
Charlie ignored them and checked his phone. "He said he reserved the Diamond Suite for me."
Harold laughed. "HahahaDiamond Suite? Charlie Wade, don't make me laugh! Do you know who gets the Diamond Suite? Less than ten people in all of Aurous Hill! You're nothing but a fart!"
Loreen remained quiet, though a thought was forming. She hadn't expected Charlie to be such a braggart. She'd thought him penniless and helpless, not vain. She was disappointed.
Charlie simply smiled. To him, these people were just snobs.
Gerald scoffed. "Charlie Wade, even my father isn't allowed to eat in the Diamond Suite. You're full of sh*t."
Wendy added, "Gerald, that loser isn't even qualified to eat leftovers from the Diamond Suite, let alone eat there!"
Charlie gave Gerald a cold sneer. "You stupid dog, Don Albert just beat the crap out of your cousin yesterday; what gives you the nerve to eat in his restaurant today?" He asked, "Gerald, I heard something happened to your cousin the other day. Is it true?"
Gerald frowned. "He was attacked and is still in a coma."
Charlie played dumb. "I don't know what happened; I just heard something happened, that's all."
"Huh!" Gerald huffed. "Don't you dare mock the White family! If I hear it again, I'll kill you!"
Charlie ignored him. It was amusing that they didn't realize Albert had injured his cousin.
A man in a black suit approached and stood before Charlie. Recognizing one of Albert's bodyguards, Charlie subtly nodded. The bodyguard, sensing Charlie's desire for discretion, said, "Sir, your suite is ready. Please follow me."
Harold was shocked. When did Heaven Springs diners get such personalized service? "Harold, you're quite extraordinary."
Harold laughed complacently. "No need to show off my connections; it's better to keep a low profile! Hahaha!"
The Amazing Son in Law, Chapter 39
Loreen hadn't expected Harold to be so well-connected. He seemed far more impressive than Charlie. A man presented a bill to Charlie. "Sir, please sign here."
The Diamond Suite was reserved for Charlie, and his signature was needed for verification. Charlie took the pen, but Harold shrieked.
Harold snatched the pen and signed it. "You immoral rat!"
The man in black was shocked by Harold's rude interruption. He looked questioningly at Charlie, as if asking if he needed help. Charlie shook his head. "Don't bother; let him sign it if he wants to so badly."
Charlie didn't want a scene in front of Loreen. They entered the suite and sat down. Harold seated Loreen prominently; Charlie sat alone in a corner. Loreen occasionally spoke to him. Exquisite food and wine were served course by course. High-grade abalone and Australian lobster were mere side dishes. The wine was a century-old vintage worth $100,000 a bottle. Loreen, from a wealthy family, was astonished.
Gerald sighed enviously. "Harold, how much is this meal?"
Harold pompously replied, "Three hundred thousand dollars."
Gerald gaped. "Are you sure? Even the wine alone exceeds that budget."
Harold's heart pounded nervously; he didn't even know the price!
Loreen's eyes sparkled. "Thank you, Harold!"
Harold beamed. "You're welcome; it's my pleasure." He turned to Charlie. "Charlie Wade, I bet you've never eaten such fine food in your life, right?"
Charlie smirked. "Who gave you the confidence to be so cocky?"
Harold roared. "You have the honor of eating with me, and your filthy mouth is still so persistent! D*mn it, if you've ever eaten such food, you can make my head a ball and kick it!"
Charlie smiled. His childhood was far more extravagant than these people could imagine. In the Wade family, this was servant's food.
Wendy huffed. "Charlie Wade, what's that attitude, you loser! I'll kick you out! We're giving you a free meal, and this is how you treat us? You f*cking loser!"
The suite door burst open, and a gruff voice boomed, "Where did you boneheads come from? Who the h*ll let you in here?!"
A stout man in an Armani suit with a gold chain and a centipede-like scar stood at the door, a bat in one hand and a bill in the other. Several burly men with tattoos followed him. Everyone was shocked.
Don Albert had told him the Diamond Suite was reserved for Mr. Wade. He'd discovered Harold had signed for it. He was furious and concerned, as only one lavish banquet was prepared.
The Amazing Son in Law, Chapter 40
Harold stood and shouted, "What are you doing? I booked this suite!"
Bill pointed at Harold. "You're Harold Wilson?"
Harold nodded proudly. "Yes, I am!"
Bill commanded coldly, "Bring him to me!"
Two men dragged Harold away. "What do you think you're doing? Let me go!"
One man kicked Harold's knee, and he fell to his knees. Bill glared at him, making him tremble. The signed bill was thrown at Harold's head.
Harold said, "It's a misunderstanding. I booked this suite in advance, I paid three hundred thousand dollars!"
Gerald interjected, "What are you doing? Harold booked the room!"
Bill slapped Harold. "Golden Suite? This is the f*cking Diamond Suite!"
It wasn't the Golden Suite! He wasn't even qualified to enter, let alone eat there!
Wendy said, "Harold, didn't you say you know Don Albert? Hurry, explain!"
Harold huffed. "Shut up! How would I know Don Albert?"
"But you just said"
Loreen saw Harold was a phony. She was disappointed.
Bill sneered. "How dare you mention Don Albert's name, you hopeless f*cker! You have a death wish!" He ordered his men, "Grab him! I'll teach him a lesson." Harold was held down. Bill swung the bat.
"Argh! My hand! My hand!" Harold screamed, drenched in sweat. He passed out.
Gerald and Wendy were terrified. Harold, once so arrogant, was humbled. They feared the consequences.
Loreen was frightened and hid behind Charlie. "What do we do? Will they kill us?"
Charlie patted Loreen's shoulder. "Don't worry, I'm here to protect you. No one will touch you." Loreen looked at him gratefully.
He turned to Gerald. "You said we don't have rules here, didn't you?"
