The Amazing Son-in-Law
Chapter 66
Claire Wilson frowned in confusion. Was this where Charlie Wade had reserved their wedding anniversary dinner?
She asked suspiciously, "You're not bluffing, are you?"
Charlie chuckled. "Obviously not!" He continued, "I made a reservation a few days ago. Let's go in and see if you don't believe me."
Claire shook her head. Charlie had never tricked her in their three years of marriage, especially not on such an important day. "Nah, I believe you," she said.
Tilting her head, she asked, "Did you reserve a seat in the Sky Garden? I heard some VIP booked the entire area for today."
Charlie replied, "The seat I booked is next to the Sky Garden; it has a view inside. We can peek and see who booked it later! What do you think?"
Claire laughed. "I'm not as nosy as you are!"
They entered Paradise Resort. As they waited for the elevator, an ear-piercing squeal echoed. "Hey, Claire Wilson, why are you here?"
Claire looked up and saw a young couple approaching. The man wore a flashy suit, the stereotypical look of a wealthy young man. The woman wore designer clothes and elaborate makeup, her eyes filled with arrogance.
Claire recognized the woman: Julie Downs, her college roommate (though they were in different programs). They'd shared a dorm, but hadn't been close because Julie was proud and envious, always believing Claire undeservedly stole the title of "belle of the university." In reality, Julie paled in comparison to Claire in looks, figure, character, and personality. However, Julie excelled at one thing: attracting and charming wealthy men. Rumor had it she'd dated many affluent men who paid for her throughout college.
Claire frowned, but greeted them politely. "Julie, long time no see. My husband and I are having dinner here. What about you?"
Julie gasped. "Wow, so are we! What a coincidence!" She adopted a curious tone. "Which suite did you book? Regular, premium, or luxury?"
Claire knew nothing of Charlie's arrangements. "I'm not sure; my husband made the reservation."
Julie finally noticed Charlie, who'd been standing quietly beside Claire. She covered her mouth and giggled sardonically. "Oh, so this is your husband, Charlie Wade? He was known as a loser in college!" Her sneer was extreme and unpleasant. Claire blushed.
Julie quickly apologized. "Ah, I'm sorry; I'm blunt. I hope you don't mind…"
Charlie frowned. Julie seemed unpleasant.
Chapter 67
Julie didn't notice Claire's expression change. With a smug smile, she pulled her companion closer. "Let me introduce you to my husband, Kyle! He's the young master of the Sullivan family and heir to their millions!"
Claire responded politely. Charlie glared at the couple. He'd brought his wife here for their anniversary; this was frustrating.
Julie continued smugly, "Oh, my husband's a platinum member, so he gets many benefits here. I guess the best Charlie Wade could get is the regular suite. Why don't I let Kyle upgrade you to the premium suite?"
Claire was about to refuse when Charlie laughed. "We booked a great place, thank you, but no thanks."
He'd booked the entire Sky Garden for his wife; why was she so proud of being a platinum member? His family owned the Shangri-La hotel chain; taking his wife to a platinum member suite would be beneath him.
Julie sneered, annoyance evident on her face. "Claire, look at your discourteous husband. How do you manage him?" She snuggled against Kyle. "With that attitude, Charlie doesn't deserve this celebration. I suggest my husband, who studied in the UK, might teach him some manners."
Kyle looked disdainfully at Charlie and smirked. "Mr. Wade is… unique."
Julie nodded. "I think you should divorce him. I feel sorry you have to spend your life with a loser like Charlie Wade!"
Julie blurted this out without considering Claire's feelings.
Claire pursed her lips. "What do you mean? You shouldn't talk about my husband."
Julie giggled coyly. "I've hated you since college. If it weren't for your family's wealth, do you think you deserved to be the belle of the university? Can't I comment because you married a 'loser'?"
Charlie was enraged. Julie had been promiscuous since college, hooking up with wealthy men regardless of their age. She'd married a rich man, yet acted superior? How dare she insult his wife?
He got his phone and texted Isaac, Paradise's general manager. "I need all the information on Julie Downs, the Sullivan family's daughter-in-law, in three minutes!"
Seeing Charlie on his phone, Julie smirked. "Look at your husband. I'm insulting you, and he doesn't defend you. He's a joke, hahaha!"
Charlie received Isaac's reply. "Young Master, I've sent you Julie Downs's information."
Charlie looked at Julie and Kyle with an amused smile. "I have interesting information. Want to hear it?"
Julie frowned. "What information?"
Chapter 68
Charlie said loudly, "Julie Downs, 26, Aurous College graduate. During your freshman year, records show you visited various resorts at least a hundred times with eight different men, including Brett Cooley, Jack Pierce, and Austin Cannon."
Julie's face paled. She sputtered, "What the hell are you talking about! I'll sue you for slander!"
Kyle's brow furrowed; he was clearly shocked.
Charlie continued, "Impressive. A couple of times you checked into a resort room with two men, Ben and Jay Decker, at the same time."
Julie squealed, "Shut up! It's all bullshit!"
Charlie ignored her. "Also, in your sophomore year, you had a sugar daddy, the vice president of Herolutions Business, who paid you thirty thousand a month for three years. During that time, you had four abortions at Aurous Women's Hospital. The last doctor declared you sterile."
He looked at Kyle. "Mr. Sullivan, you don't have children, correct?"
Kyle's face twisted. He glared at Julie. "What is this?!"
Cold sweat covered Julie's face. "Kyle, don't listen to him."
Charlie smiled knowingly. "More interesting stories coming!"
Julie pulled Kyle, trying to leave. "Let's go, dear! We're late for dinner!"
Kyle remained still. He frowned. "What else?"
Charlie grinned. "After college, Julie had a complete body makeover. A month later, she worked at Sullivan Group. She met you by damaging your Bentley." He looked at Kyle. "Am I right?"
Kyle was astonished. It was all true. Did that mean the other things were true, too?
Julie trembled. She pleaded, "Charlie Wade, please stop!"
Charlie smirked. "Asking now? Too late!" He continued reading the text. "Half a month after meeting Kyle, on a business trip to Lancaster, she had hymen restoration surgery. After the trip, she became your partner and married you six months later."
Julie's legs buckled. She collapsed, stunned. She couldn't believe Charlie knew her secrets and revealed them to her husband.
Kyle's face turned red. He yelled at Julie, "So that night… you said it was your first time, but it was your hundredth, thousandth, millionth, wasn't it?"
Julie denied it. "No, I didn't lie! Kyle, you're my first!"
Charlie smiled viciously. "Don't worry, I can get your medical records for the hymen repair surgery. You can check with the hospital."
Kyle grabbed Julie. "You still won't tell me the truth? I'll make sure you and your family end up on the streets!"
Julie burst into tears. "Dear, please don't be angry. I'm sorry, they were mistakes. After meeting you, I've repented. I want to spend my life with you!"
Charlie smirked. "Don't trust her. After marrying you, she had several encounters with her sugar daddy. He even recorded a video. I can forward it if you want!"
Chapter 69
Kyle's face was green. He finally felt the pain of being consistently cheated on. He couldn't control himself and began slapping Julie, cursing her.
Julie screamed in pain. Kyle yelled, "I want a divorce! You won't get a dime from me! Or I'll have someone kill your parents and sibling!"
Julie was devastated. She'd dreamed of marrying into the Sullivan family and becoming rich, but her dream was shattered, all thanks to Charlie Wade. She hated him, but he simply smirked and said to Claire, "Sweetheart, let them fight. Let's go."
He took Claire's hand and walked to the elevator. Claire's eyes shimmered; she was in shock. How did Charlie know Julie's secrets?
She asked incredulously, "You had someone investigate her, right?"
"No! Who am I to do that?" Charlie laughed sheepishly. "A friend of mine was hurt by Julie. He'd been gathering her secrets for years. I never knew it would come in handy."
Charlie pulled her into the elevator. Claire asked, "Charlie, did you press the wrong floor? The top floor is the Sky Garden, isn't it?"
Charlie grinned. "Sweetheart, that's exactly where we're going—the Sky Garden!"
Claire stood in a daze. Sky Garden? How was that possible? Everyone knew a mysterious man had booked the entire Sky Garden tonight! It was impossible for Charlie to reserve it, even with superpowers!
A thought struck her: Was Charlie the mysterious man?! It sounded absurd, but there was no other explanation.
She looked at Charlie. "Hey, did you book the Sky Garden?"
"Yes! This is the surprise! I want to give you a luxurious wedding that no one can copy!"
"Huh?" Claire felt like her brain had fried. If this was Charlie's surprise, she'd be the happiest woman in Aurous Hill tonight!
Chapter 70
As Claire's mind raced, the elevator reached the top floor. A steward bowed. "Ms. Wilson, on behalf of Shangri-La, we extend our blessings for your anniversary."
Charlie waved. "Okay, you can go."
The staff left, leaving only Claire and Charlie in the empty Sky Garden. Claire felt like she was in a dream.
Before her was a large, elegantly designed room. A crystal chandelier cast sparkles, highlighting the sophisticated atmosphere. Soft piano music echoed, easing tension. Rare flowers filled the room, creating a divine scent.
As the music changed, the traditional wedding march, "Midsummer Night's Dream," began. While Claire admired the scene, Charlie, in a smart suit, walked towards her with flowers. With each step, red hearts floated from the crystal glass floor, dancing to the music.
Outside, people craned their necks to see through the glass wall. Despite the blurring effect, they could see a young couple, flowers, and the floating hearts. Women sighed dreamily. "Wow, it's so romantic! The man looks like the mysterious rich man online!"
The onlookers were captivated. Many women felt envious, wishing they were the bride. They couldn't see the couple's faces, but they could feel the bride's happiness.
Charlie reached Claire. He pointed to the city view. "Claire, I love you! I'm sorry I couldn't give you a wedding then. I hope you like this one, just the two of us."
Claire's composure returned. Tears streamed down her face. She threw herself into Charlie's arms. "I love it! Thank you, Charlie Wade! Thank you!" She sobbed harder. She felt all the hardships of the past three years were worth it. She was the happiest woman in Aurous Hill tonight!
