The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 76-80
Chapter 76
Douglas chuckled lightly. "She's at the hair salon. Why?"
Charlie Wade smirked. "Beauty parlor? Is that what she told you?"
"Yes!"
"And you believe her?"
Douglas's tone was peculiar. "Charlie Wade, what are you trying to say? Just tell me."
Charlie Wade hummed. "Alright. I saw Lily at the BMW showroom with a man named Jerome Quest. They were cuddling and embracing, and she called him 'dear.' I think she's cheating on you."
Douglas exclaimed, "Did you get the wrong person?"
Charlie Wade stated firmly, "No, it was her."
"No! I don't believe it!" Douglas retorted coldly. "Charlie Wade, we're good friends, but you can't say bad things about my future wife, even if we're close!"
"Your future wife is cheating on you with Jerome Quest, who promised to buy her a BMW X6. They've gone back to his place, and she's going to break up with you tonight!"
Without waiting for Douglas's reply, Charlie Wade continued, "You'd better move that painting I gave you. Keep it somewhere safe; it'll be your resource to start over. If you still don't understand, then my hands are tied."
Douglas muttered, "Charlie Wade, stop your nonsense! I know her; she'd never betray me!"
Charlie Wade frowned in dismay. "Alright then. As your friend, I've given you a heads-up. I can't do anything if you don't believe me. Good luck!"
Charlie Wade immediately ended the call, shaking his head indignantly. "That fool, blinded by love! I should have taped a video!"
The BMW showroom manager knocked on the window. "Sir, how do you feel about the car? Do you like it?"
Charlie Wade replied, "Yes, it's excellent. I'll take it. Get me a new one from the warehouse."
A wide grin spread across the manager's face. "Yes, absolutely! Please give me a minute; I'll have someone drive the car out front."
Soon, a black BMW 530 pulled up, driven by a salesperson. Charlie Wade paid for the car, folded his scooter, put it in the trunk, and drove away.
On his way back, his in-laws kept calling to ask when he would be home. He learned they were waiting outside.
Delighted and worried smiles appeared on their faces when they saw Charlie Wade driving a BMW 530.
Jacob Wilson circled the car several times, sighing pleasantly. "Wow, it's a great car! Wonderful! I never thought I'd drive a BMW!"
Charlie Wade smiled. "Father, maybe you can drive a Rolls-Royce in the future, who knows?"
Jacob Wilson laughed delightedly. "Well, my hope is on you and Claire!"
Elaine Ma was also very pleased. Her eyes softened as she looked at Charlie Wade.
Jacob Wilson hopped in. "Charlie Wade, be my driver this afternoon."
Charlie Wade nodded. "Alright, Dad."
Elaine Ma added happily, "Be my driver too, and take me for afternoon tea with my friends! I want to show them I have someone to chauffeur me in a BMW!"
"Alright, Mom!"
Chapter 77
After lunch, Jacob Wilson was already dressed neatly, advising Charlie Wade, "Hey, hurry and get ready; we're going for a drive in our new car to Vintage Street. A shop there has imported a Tang Empire kiln vase, and I want to check it out."
Charlie Wade sighed. "Dad, you're starting with the antiques again? We don't have much money, and it's an expensive hobby."
Jacob Wilson lacked money-making skills but dreamed of get-rich-quick schemes. He liked visiting Antique Street hoping to find rare items at bargain prices, but his past experiences were mostly rip-offs and deceptions. He'd recently picked up the hobby again.
Jacob Wilson was annoyed by Charlie Wade's comment. He snorted. "Stop your nonsense, just drive me there now."
Charlie Wade, powerless to disobey, drove his father-in-law to Antique Street.
Aurouss Hill was a renowned historical city. Vintage Street, outside the main tourist area, was popular with local and international antiquarians. Due to its popularity, the local tourism department had invested heavily in its renovation.
Reaching Vintage Street, Jacob Wilson told the attendant he had an appointment. They were invited to the VIP room.
As Charlie Wade stepped out, Jacob Wilson turned. "You'd better stay here; you don't know about these things anyway. Just wait for me by the door."
Charlie Wade replied, "Okay, Dad!"
Jacob Wilson went into the VIP room, leaving Charlie Wade outside.
A few minutes later, a sharp crash came from the VIP room. Jacob Wilson rushed out, sputtering, "Oh my god, I'm screwed!"
Charlie Wade saw a tall, thin ceramic vase broken in two, with fragments scattered on the floor. It was a Yuhuchun vase from the Tang Empire, worth millions. His father-in-law was in big trouble.
In the VIP room, a middle-aged man, Raymond Cole, the manager of Vintage Deluxe, said grimly, "Mr. Wilson, we bought our Yuhuchun vase for 5 million dollars. Since you broke it, you must compensate!"
Jacob Wilson pulled Charlie Wade forward. "This is my son-in-law. Do you know how wealthy he is? I have something to attend to; I have to go, bye-bye!"
Jacob Wilson shoved Charlie Wade into the room and ran away. Charlie Wade was stunned; his father-in-law had made him a scapegoat!
Raymond looked coldly at Charlie Wade. "Sir, the cost is 5.38 million. Would you like to pay by card or bank transfer?"
Charlie Wade spread his hands. "I don't have any cash." He wanted to teach his father-in-law a lesson.
"No money?" Raymond gritted his teeth. "You broke our shop's stuff, and all you say is 'I don't have any money'?"
Charlie Wade shrugged. "I don't mean to avoid it, but honestly, I don't have cash. I didn't break the vase, so you can't force me to pay."
Chapter 78
Raymond stomped his feet. "He's your father-in-law, isn't he?"
Charlie Wade replied, "Yes, but he's the one who broke it, not me. Find whoever is responsibleโhave you heard the saying 'find the real perpetrator, don't involve their family'?"
Raymond pondered. If news of him demanding compensation from an innocent person spread, Vintage Deluxe's reputation would be damaged.
He told his men, "Go and get the old man back!"
Charlie Wade smirked, watching them chase after Jacob Wilson. He could easily pay, but it would be too easy for his father-in-law. Let the old man suffer and learn his lesson.
Everyone was chasing Jacob Wilson. Charlie Wade examined the broken vase. He found a hidden compartment at the bottom and retrieved a small wooden box.
The box contained a small, yellowish book titled "Apocalyptic Book" in ancient script. The first chapter, "Medical Methods," contained advanced medical techniques, including alchemy. The book also covered fortune-telling and other unusual topics. Charlie Wade felt the information imprinted in his mind. He had found a treasure.
Chapter 79
Charlie Wade quickly pocketed the Apocalyptic Book, but it turned to powder. Astonishingly, the contents remained perfectly in his memory.
Jacob Wilson, caught and brought back, was panting and disheveled. He'd clearly been beaten. Charlie Wade found his pitiful look amusing.
Raymond gritted his teeth. "Old man, do you think you can escape after breaking our things? You have until noon to get the money."
Jacob Wilson stammered, clinging to Charlie Wade. "Charlie Wade, my good son-in-law! You have to help me!"
Charlie Wade shrugged. "Dad, I don't have that much cash."
Jacob Wilson sputtered, "Go to prison for me! The Wilson family has supported you, it's time you repaid us!"
Before Charlie Wade could refuse, Raymond added, "Stop. At Vintage Deluxe, whoever makes the mistake takes the blame. Old man, you broke the vase, you pay for it!" He then said to Charlie Wade, "You can go now, but I suggest you help him get the money. Otherwise, I'll send him to the police station!"
Charlie Wade nodded. Jacob Wilson howled, wanting Charlie Wade to stay. Suddenly, Charlie Wade remembered an ancient porcelain repair technique from the Apocalyptic Book. "Mr. Cole, if I can repair the vase, will you let the old man go?"
Raymond smirked. "Fix the vase? The experts say it's irreparable."
Charlie Wade countered, "Your vase is broken anyway. Why not let me try?"
Raymond agreed. "Alright! Let's see what you can do!"
Charlie Wade requested Chinese rice paper, a brush, and five raw eggs.
Chapter 80
Charlie Wade nodded. "What if I repair it?"
Raymond snorted. "I'll need to contact the appraisers. If they confirm you've repaired it, I'll let you both go!"
"Alright!" Charlie Wade replied. "It's a deal!"
He meticulously began his work, using the egg white to reattach the fragments to a rice paper outline of the vase.
Half an hour later, the vase appeared as good as new.
He grinned at Raymond. "Have a look and see if there are any defects."
Raymond examined it, grimacing. "You're kidding me? You think you've fixed it by putting some egg liquid on it? Why don't I break your leg and glue them back together with egg liquid, huh?!"
"Don't touch the vase!"
A crisp voice echoed from the door. Jasmine Moore, the owner of Vintage Deluxe, entered. She looked at the vase, shocked.
She scolded Raymond, "Put it down, you fool! Don't touch it! This is a recovered artifact! Don't you know the rules?"
Raymond was stunned. Jasmine explained that touching it with bare hands reduced its value significantly. Raymond was fired. Jasmine then asked, "Who is the master who repaired this vase? Take me to him now!"
