The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 91-95
Chapter 91
Charlie Wade had his men carry the five men out, warning them, "I'm sparing your lives. Leak this, and I'll kill you all. Understand?" They nodded. It was sheer luck they were still alive; they dared not defy Charlie Wade.
Satisfied, Charlie Wade turned to Lawson Lewis. "Trying to control my brother has consequences. I want you and your daughter out of the restaurant, and the ownership transferred to my brother by tomorrow. Understood?"
Lawson nodded repeatedly. "Understood. I'll be out of the restaurant by tomorrow!"
Charlie Wade then addressed Dylan Quest. "Your son attacked my brother's fiancé. Pay him two million dollars by tomorrow, and don't try any tricks. Understood?"
Dylan agreed immediately. "Mr. Wade, the money will be transferred to your brother by tomorrow!"
Pleased, Charlie turned to Don Albertt's underlings. "Take the garbage out." The men removed the five men.
As they left, Charlie looked at Bill. "Bill, you did a great job."
Bill smiled. "I was just following orders, Mr. Wade!"
Charlie Wade spoke softly, "I'll transfer two million dollars to your account as a reward."
Bill was overjoyed, bowing. "Thank you, Mr. Wade!" Don Albertt, Bill's former employer, had never been so generous.
Charlie Wade texted Isaac to transfer the money to Bill; using his debit card was inconvenient. The money was transferred instantly. Bill bowed repeatedly.
Charlie Wade turned to Don Albertt. "Albert, you're not interested in money, I presume?"
Don Albertt replied, "Mr. Wade, it's my honor to serve you."
Charlie Wade dismissed him. "I'll remember this. I'll promote you when the opportunity arises."
Don Albertt knelt, submitting to Charlie Wade. He craved power more than money. This was a chance to work with Cameron Isaac, who previously looked down on him. His future seemed bright.
After compensating everyone, Charlie Wade looked at Douglas. "Are you satisfied with the outcome?"
Douglas, still shocked by Charlie Wade's sudden power, stammered, "Yes! Yes, I am!"
Charlie Wade continued, "I handled those people, got the restaurant back for you, and secured two million dollars for damages. Now, get on your feet!"
Douglas declared, "Charlie Wade, I will repay this favor! I'll do anything you say!"
Chapter 92
Charlie Wade nodded. "Get some rest. When you've recovered, run the restaurant. If I need anything, I'll find you."
Douglas exclaimed, "Whenever you need me!"
Charlie Wade added, "Don't tell anyone about today. I don't want people to know who I am. Understood?"
Douglas nodded. "Understood. I'll take this secret to my grave!"
Charlie Wade smiled. "I'll arrange caretakers for you. I'm leaving."
At home, Charlie Wade didn't tell Claire Wilson what happened; it was safer if she remained unaware of his identity.
The next day, while grocery shopping, Charlie Wade received a call from Jasmine Moore, the daughter of the Vintage Deluxe owner. He wondered what she wanted.
Jasmine apologized for interrupting.
Charlie Wade asked, "Is there a problem with the Yuhuchun Flower holder I repaired?"
Jasmine replied, "No. I'm calling about something else."
Charlie Wade asked, "What is it?"
Jasmine explained, "Something has caught my eye. I'm not experienced, but I heard Mr. Wade is. Would you help me identify some vintages?"
Charlie Wade wasn't particularly interested, but he lacked certain antiques, so he asked, "What vintage?"
Jasmine replied, "A jade. The seller claims it calms the soul and brings success."
A lightbulb went off in Charlie Wade's mind. He'd heard of such mythical relics. He decided to investigate. "Okay, I'll go with you."
Jasmine replied, "Thank you, Mr. Wade. I'll pick you up at 8 am tomorrow."
"Sure." Charlie Wade hung up, lost in thought. Wealthy men were drawn to such relics. He would enter the world of collectibles to find what he sought.
The next morning, Jasmine arrived on time.
Chapter 93
As soon as Charlie Wade got in the car, Jasmine warned, "Mr. Wade, there will be competition for this jade. I've heard people from Aurouss Hill will be bidding!"
Charlie Wade nodded. "Regardless of the competition, it depends on the item. If it's worthwhile, Miss Moore will acquire it."
Jasmine smiled. "Thank you, Mr. Wade, but we don't know who we're up against. Powerful figures might be hiding in plain sight in Aurouss Hill."
Charlie Wade feigned surprise. "What? Isn't the Moore family the most powerful in Aurouss Hill?"
Jasmine smiled. "That's what everyone says. But the new chairman of Emgrand Group could subdue the Moores. Let's not underestimate anyone's power."
Jasmine sighed. "I want to know this powerful figure. He's secretive, and his identity is unknown." (Unbeknownst to her, he was her passenger.)
Charlie Wade remained inconspicuous, revealing no information about his identity.
They arrived at a secluded, elegant garden.
After parking, a butler greeted them and led them inside. The lobby was decorated with traditional Chinese furniture.
A white-haired old man greeted Jasmine. "You've arrived, Miss Moore."
Jasmine introduced him as Uncle Patchwork, a Moore family appraiser, sent as a precaution.
Patchwork looked at Charlie Wade skeptically. "This is your appraiser? He's too young."
Travis Lane, a man beside Patchwork, sneered, "You hired a brat? Need me to introduce some appraisers?"
Jasmine's expression turned cold. "Travis Lane, this is Aurous, not Lancaster. Don't be disrespectful."
Travis shrugged. "The Moores seem to be in a mood."
Matthew Gibson, a middle-aged man at the table, intervened, "We're here for business, not a fight. Relax. Young man, sit."
Chapter 94
Jasmine introduced Travis Lane (Lancaster's richest man), Matthew Gibson (a powerful geomancer), and Graham Quinton (head of the Aurous Quinton family). She also mentioned an unassuming old man in green robes sitting with Travis.
A fat man in expensive clothing joked about a billion being pocket change. Travis agreed that if the jade had the claimed powers, a billion was insignificant.
The fat man placed a wooden box containing a crimson jade on the table. A warm energy filled the room.
Jasmine asked Patchwork's opinion. He identified it as the Bloody Jade of the Zhou dynasty, blessed by a powerful monk.
Jasmine asked Charlie Wade's opinion. He grimaced. "It's a fake."
Patchwork scoffed. "A child giving his opinion?"
Matthew Gibson, intrigued, asked to hold it. The fat man refused, citing appraisal rules. Gibson then examined it, stating that while he couldn't confirm its Zhou dynasty origin, its power to regulate geomancy and calm spirits was real.
Patchwork sneered at Charlie Wade, implying he was unskilled. Jasmine felt slightly disappointed in Charlie Wade.
The fat man opened bidding. Graham bid one billion; Travis bid 1.003 billion. The fat man asked Jasmine to bid. Patchwork whispered that the jade was worth three billion.
Chapter 95
Jasmine hesitated. Patchwork, suspecting Charlie Wade's influence, challenged him to explain his assessment. Others joined in the criticism.
Charlie Wade calmly accepted. He stated that the jade was genuine but not the Bloody Jade, and not blessed by a monk. It was high-quality nephrite, worth at most fifty thousand.
Patchwork scoffed, pointing out the jade's red color. Charlie Wade explained the red color resulted from potassium permanganate minerals, not monastic blood. He also debunked the warm aura, attributing it to a treatment using African Gholag Weed. He suggested burning it to remove the effect.
The fat man panicked. Travis proposed a burn test. Graham agreed; if the aura remained after burning, he would buy it; otherwise, the fat man faced consequences. Jasmine agreed.
The fat man was silent, revealing his fraud. Charlie Wade smirked. The fat man remained silent, afraid to proceed. Charlie Wade revealed he didn't know how to appraise jade, but the answer came to him instinctively. He had no idea why.
