The Amazing Son-in-Law
Chapter 111
Graham grinned and said respectfully, "Mr. Wade, the Quinton family will never forget your compassion. While we couldn't prepare properly today, I'd be honored to welcome you to the Quinton manor for supper tomorrow. I'd like to hold a banquet to personally thank you."
Charlie Wade shook his head indifferently. "Do you understand what I'm saying?"
Graham was startled. "Mr. Wade, please don't hesitate to come, and please seek me out if you need any help in the future."
Graham quickly produced a gold-plated business card with his contact information.
Charlie Wade took the card without looking at it before turning and escorting his father-in-law away. Graham watched them leave.
"From now on, bow and greet Mr. Wade respectfully if you encounter him in Aurous Hill."
Adam replied aggrievedly, "I didn't know I'd offend someone like him"
Aurora, her face cool, gritted her teeth as she watched Charlie Wade go. Though she respected his abilities and insight, she couldn't forget or forgive him for kicking her. For a proud woman like her, it was unforgivable.
Graham sighed, trying to comfort her. "Aurora, don't retaliate against Mr. Wade. Our family depends on him to overcome this tragedy"
"Do you think it will work?" Adam murmured.
Graham sharply reprimanded Adam. "If you continue spouting nonsense, I'll break your legs!"
Adam fell silent. Aurora stamped her foot. "I understand, Father I won't provoke him"
The more she thought about it, the angrier and more humiliated she felt.
Graham sighed, shaking his head. "It's such a pity"
Aurora looked at him. "What's a pity?"
Graham glanced at her. "Sadly, Mr. Wade is married. Otherwise, I think you two would make a perfect match"
Aurora responded in embarrassment and anger. "Father, what are you talking about?!"
Jacob Wilson remained astonished on their way home. He couldn't believe the Quinton family head was so respectful to his son-in-law, a nobody.
"Charlie Wade, was anything you said to Mr. Quinton true?" Jacob asked, confused. His son-in-law seemed increasingly deceptive.
Charlie Wade chuckled. "Half true, half likely false. Isn't it interesting to keep it mysterious?"
Jacob was stunned and reprimanded him. "Oh my God! You lied to the Quintons! You accepted an expensive jade bracelet! Do you know what they could do to us if they find out?"
Charlie Wade shrugged. "What's the big deal? I'll return the bracelet."
Jacob could only sigh. Perhaps Charlie Wade's method would work.
Chapter 112
Charlie Wade felt a surge of energy coursing through his body, enhancing his senses, bones, and blood. It was Reiki!
Examining the stone again, he found it seemed to have absorbed the spiritual power, appearing like an ordinary stone. He tried the cultivation technique from the Apocalyptic Book but couldn't extract the Reiki.
Disheartened, he pocketed the stone. He felt it was extraordinary but couldn't examine it further. He needed to hone his abilities first.
He showered; it was past 5 pm when Claire Wilson called. She was in a meeting with the Emgrand Team and needed him to pick her up in her father's BMW 530 because of driving restrictions.
Charlie Wade readily agreed. He got the car keys from Jacob Wilson and drove to Emgrand. He called Claire, but she texted: "Charlie Wade, I'm still in the meeting. Please wait downstairs."
"Okay, I'll wait," Charlie replied, exiting the car to smoke.
Doris, Emgrand's vice-chairman, then called. "Mr. Wade, are you at the company?"
Charlie asked, "How do you know?"
"I'm in my office. I saw your car."
Charlie looked up, smiling. "Is there something you want to discuss?"
"Yes. Your wife is in a meeting. If you have time, I'd like to report on the company's recent progress."
Charlie considered this. As chairman, he couldn't be ignorant of the company's business, so he agreed. "Okay, I'll be there."
"Please go to your office. I'll meet you there."
"Okay."
Charlie entered the building, took the elevator, and went to the chairman's office. As he exited, a door opened behind him. It was Loreen, heading to the restroom. She saw a familiar figure.
She didn't recognize Charlie Wade but thought the figure resembled the man in a video! Could he be the chairman she longed to meet?
Loreen was ecstatic! Her main reason for coming to Aurous Hill and Emgrand was to meet the mysterious chairman and befriend him. This was a crucial mission for her family.
Chapter 113
Charlie Wade saw Loreen following him. If she saw him here, she'd think he was the chairman, possibly even connect him to the Wade family!
As Loreen caught up, he quickened his pace, entered his office, and locked the door.
Loreen sighed. "That's strange. It feels like the chairman is deliberately avoiding me"
Refusing to give up, she knocked. "Mr. Chairman, I'm Loreen Thomas, the new administrative manager. I'd like to report on the department's progress."
Charlie deliberately lowered his voice. "Have you reported to Miss Young? The company doesn't allow employees to bypass their supervisors, do you know that?"
"I'm sorry, I forgot"
Loreen was intimidated. Was the chairman angry she bypassed Doris, or did he simply not want to see her?
Loreen left. Charlie breathed a sigh of relief. It was a close call! He needed to come to the company sometimes; with Loreen on the same floor, the chances of encountering her were high.
Doris arrived. Charlie said, "Doris, I need you to do something for me."
Doris nodded. "What is it?"
"Change Loreen Thomas's position. What position doesn't require her to be in the office constantly?"
"Sales, business development," Doris replied. "Those positions require frequent outings."
"Excellent," Charlie said. "Transfer her to sales manager."
"No problem," Doris said.
Doris then reported on the company's progress, including the new six-star hotel project.
Charlie instructed Doris, "If my wife is doing well and has free time, assign her some side projects."
"No problem."
Checking his watch, Charlie said, "Call Loreen to your office. My wife will be finishing her meeting soon, and I should leave."
Chapter 114
Loreen went to Doris's office. Charlie went downstairs and saw Claire Wilson, looking tired.
"I have too much work. Twenty-four hours aren't enough," she said.
Charlie said, "How about delegating some work? Or just don't do it."
"No way," Claire said. "I was recently appointed manager. I need to work hard to establish myself, otherwise, my cousin will take advantage."
Harold's face appeared in her mind. He always caused problems.
On the way home, Claire closed her eyes to rest.
In Doris's office, Doris told Loreen of the new appointment. Loreen was shocked and confused.
Doris explained, "You're very capable. It's a waste of your abilities to work in administration. Your resume shows a background in business administration and marketing, making sales the best fit."
Loreen didn't think too much of it. If she excelled in sales, the chairman might notice her. It was great news!
The first thing Loreen did was call Claire.
"Claire, I'm the sales manager now!"
"Really?" Claire said, delighted. "That's fantastic! Sales is much better suited for you! You'll do great!"
"Hehe! Shall we have dinner to celebrate? Invite Charlie too."
Claire said tiredly, "Honestly, we're almost home, and I'm exhausted. We'll celebrate later."
Loreen understood. "Of course! You've been working too hard. Rest well. We'll celebrate when the project goes smoothly!"
"Okay," Claire said. "Let's get together when I'm done!"
Loreen felt a little dejected after the call. She didn't have many friends in Aurous Hill. Claire was her only close friend.
Chapter 115
Loreen didn't want to answer Harold's call. She didn't like him; he was only trying to get close to her. She hung up.
Harold persisted. Loreen finally answered. "What's up, Harold?"
Harold said, "Loreen, I heard you're the sales manager. Is it true?"
Loreen was surprised. "How did you get the information so quickly?"
Harold laughed. "I have friends at Emgrand. They told me."
"Oh, yes, I'm the sales director."
Harold was ecstatic. "It's a powerful position!"
"Thank you."
"Loreen, we haven't met often. How about we celebrate?"
Loreen started to refuse, "But I might need to work overtime tonight"
"We should celebrate while it's fresh! What do you think?"
Loreen was touched. She wanted to celebrate, but Claire couldn't come. Harold was the next best option.
Loreen succumbed. "Okay, send me the address."
"I've booked a table at Aurous Diner. Just say my name when you arrive."
Loreen took a taxi to Aurous Diner, a top restaurant in Aurous Hill. Harold was waiting, dressed in a suit. The plaster on his arm was noticeable.
Loreen was in casual attire. Harold greeted her. They sat down, and the food arrived.
Harold asked for a bottle of merlot. "It's a happy day! Let's celebrate with some wine!"
Loreen immediately shook her head. "I'll just have some juice."
"No can do!" Harold insisted. He wanted Loreen drunk but she refused, leaving him disappointed.
Loreen said apologetically, "I'm sorry, Harold, I'm not feeling well. Let's celebrate another time."
