Chapter 116
Loreen sensed Harold's intentions and, wanting to avoid an uncomfortable situation, decided not to drink alcohol with him that evening.
Harold was disappointed when his suggestion was refused, but he didn't press the issue. "It's okay," he said, "let's just have juice then."
"Thanks for being so considerate!" Loreen replied.
Meanwhile, a young man at a nearby table watched Loreen. He'd been captivated by her elegance since she entered the restaurant. "She's gorgeous, phenomenal," he thought, "like a fairy!"
After observing them for a while, he realized they weren't a couple and decided to make his move. He approached their table and said to Loreen, "Hi, I had to say hello. May I have your number?"
Loreen was taken aback. She hadn't expected this. Harold, however, was furious. "Who the hell are you?" he demanded, "What are you doing, bothering us?"
The young man responded calmly, "I'm talking to this lovely lady. Mind your own business." Turning back to Loreen, he added, "Miss, I've been watching you. I didn't want to interrupt your dinner, but I couldn't miss the chance to meet you. Please forgive my forwardness."
Harold's anger boiled over. He glared at the young man and snarled, "I suggest you leave us alone! If you even look our way again, I'll gouge your eyes out!"
The young man, discouraged, asked Loreen, "Is he your boyfriend?"
Loreen shook her head.
The young man turned back to Harold. "Since you're not her boyfriend, what's the problem with me asking her out?"
Harold sneered. "I don't like you looking at her, keep your eyes off her!"
The young man frowned. "Why are you so arrogant? You think you're so great?"
"Young man, I'm from the Wilson family. Get lost before I make you regret it!"
Loreen was annoyed. She disliked the young man's blunt approach and Harold's arrogance.
The young man flared up. "The Wilson family? Don't make me laugh! Stop acting superior, or I'll make sure you can't leave this restaurant!"
Harold gritted his teeth. He'd already embarrassed himself once that evening. Another failure with Loreen would ruin his chances with her.
He grabbed a wine bottle and yelled, "Shut up! You asked for this!" He smashed the bottle over the young man's head. Blood gushed out.
Chapter 117
The young man felt woozy and almost fell. Diners around them were shocked.
Harold glared at the bleeding young man. "Get lost, or I'll break your leg!"
The young man clutched his wound. "Alright, you'll regret this!" He ran out.
Harold sneered, "Fucking loser! I'm Harold Wilson!" He turned to Loreen, attempting to salvage the evening. "There are always annoying people, don't let him ruin our night. Let's enjoy our dinner."
Loreen's celebratory mood was ruined. She nodded silently.
Throughout dinner, Harold tried to cheer her up, but Loreen was unimpressed. She considered him incompetent and reckless.
Harold, however, believed his display of aggression would impress her, but the opposite happened. She seemed even more repulsed. He was depressed by her reaction. If she disliked violence, he'd just ruined his chances.
His mood remained sour throughout the meal. After dinner, he suggested a second date, but Loreen refused. "It's getting late, I should go home. Thanks for dinner."
Harold's disappointment was evident. "Let me take you home."
Loreen shook her head. "I'll take a taxi." She was making it clear she wanted distance.
Harold, suppressing his anger, said respectfully, "Let me at least see you to your cab."
Loreen didn't refuse this time. She left the restaurant, Harold following closely behind. He was frustrated. The encounter had ruined his chances with Loreen.
"If I see that fucker again, I'll kill him!" he muttered.
Meanwhile, Charlie Wade finished his dinner.
Claire Wilson exclaimed, "Charlie, there's a vendor quote in my bag! Did you see it?"
Charlie shook his head. "No, I haven't touched your bag."
Claire paused, then slapped her forehead. "I left it in the meeting room! I need it tomorrow. Could you drive me there?"
Charlie chuckled. "You're exhausted. Rest, I'll get it for you. The document number is GY20191101."
"Thank you, dear."
Charlie grabbed his keys and left.
Harold and Loreen were waiting for a taxi when three vans pulled up, and several men, faces masked, carrying steel pipes, charged towards them.
Harold trembled. Loreen's face drained of color. She realized they were after the young man, and it looked deadly.
The young man appeared, shouting, "Get them!"
The men lunged at Harold.
"I'm from the Wilson family! Don't you dare touch me!" Harold yelled, trying to maintain a confident front.
A man sneered and swung his pipe.
Chapter 118
Terrified, Harold grabbed Loreen's hand, shoved her toward the attackers, and fled to his car, speeding away without looking back.
Loreen screamed as she was pushed toward the thugs. She was furious at Harold's cowardly act. He was a despicable coward!
The young man cursed, "That fucker! He left the woman behind! What a loser!"
He turned to Loreen, snarling, "Call that bastard back, or you're next!"
Loreen panicked. "He and I are just colleagues! Please don't involve me!"
The young man pointed to his head. "I have sixteen stitches! I won't be satisfied until I get revenge! If he doesn't come back, I'll take you homeas compensation!"
Loreen cried, "What? You can't do that! It's illegal!"
The young man growled, "You think you can lecture me on the law? After I'm done with you, you'll understand the real law!"
Terror gripped Loreen. "II'll call him now!"
She called Harold, her hands shaking.
Harold, frantically driving away, was startled by the call. He'd abandoned Loreen! She must hate him now!
He'd planned to impress Loreen, connect with the Thomas family, and elevate his status. Instead, he'd deeply offended her.
Should he answer? If he returned, he'd be severely beaten, possibly killed.
Survival was more important than the relationship. He ignored her calls.
Loreen was devastated by his silence. "I can give you money, please let me go!" she pleaded.
The young man grinned. "I don't want your money! I want you!"
Fear consumed Loreen. She knew she had to act. She kicked the young man between the legs, then tried to run, but he stabbed her leg.
"Bitch, you think you can run?" he sneered. "My brothers and I will take care of you tonight!"
Tears streamed down Loreen's face. She felt she was about to die. But she didn't see the black BMW approachingCharlie Wade.
Chapter 119
Pain shot through Loreen's leg. The young man ordered, "Get her in the car!"
A voice said, "Mr. Westbrook, when can we have a turn with the pretty girl?"
The young man said, "After I'm done with her, you can do what you like!"
Then a sudden scream echoed. The young man spun around, only to be hit with a powerful blow. Blood spurted from his nose, his nose broken. He fell backward, seeing his men lying lifeless.
Loreen looked up in shock at the masked man who had moved with incredible speed. "Who is he? He saved me!"
The young man lay bleeding. The masked man didn't answer Loreen, but swiftly scooped her up and fled into the alley. The men gave chase.
Loreen felt the man's breath—somehow familiar. She didn't know it was Charlie Wade.
Charlie had seen her surrounded by thugs. He'd masked himself and rescued her. His enhanced abilities allowed him to quickly escape the pursuers.
He stopped deep in a park and laid Loreen down. He saw the blood staining her pants.
Loreen, despite losing blood, said gratefully, "Thank you for saving mewho are you?"
Chapter 120
Charlie thought, "She's always looked down on me. What's the point of revealing myself?" He decided to remain anonymous. He'd saved her for Claire's sake, not out of any special regard for Loreen.
Loreen, sensing he wouldn't reveal his identity, ceased her questioning, but felt uncomfortable not being able to express her gratitude.
As she was about to ask again, a cold voice said, "Remove your trousers."
Loreen felt embarrassed and terrified. She was trapped.
She said sternly, "Don't you dare touch me! I won't be abused!"
Charlie was surprised by her reaction. He lowered his voice and pointed to her leg. "That wound is near your aorta. If not treated immediately, your leg will be damaged. If I take you to a hospital, you'll lose too much blood. What do you think I should do?"
Loreen stared in astonishment. She realized he wasn't trying to assault her.
Charlie sighed. Loreen cleared her throat and asked timidly, "Cancan you help stop the bleeding?"
Charlie nodded. "Yes, I can use acupuncture."
"Ththank you," Loreen mumbled, her face flushed. The wound was on her thigh, requiring her to remove her pants.
Loreen, having had a strict upbringing, was uncomfortable with the idea of a man seeing her bare legs, and doubted acupuncture would suffice.
Loreen said, "Thank you, but please take me to the hospital."
Charlie frowned, knowing she underestimated the severity of her injury. The reason she felt okay was due to the Reiki he'd secretly given her. She would have died from blood loss otherwise.
As soon as Loreen moved, the wound opened, and a fresh gush of blood erupted. She fainted.
Charlie frowned, "See? You're losing too much blood!"
