Chapter 2071
Rueben sat in the Tokyo Police Department’s conference room, his face etched with anxiety. Because the Moore Group was a powerful and well-known company, the Tokyo Police Department treated him with considerable deference. The director, who had arrived overnight from home, was personally attending to him.
Noticing Rueben’s distress, the director offered comfort. “Mr. Moore, a large team is thoroughly searching for your sister’s whereabouts in West Domo County. Please don’t worry. We will report any findings immediately.”
Rueben sighed, covering his face. “Jasmine is my only sister, and I love her dearly. Please do everything you can to bring her back safely.”
The police inspector nodded. “Mr. Moore, we will do everything in our power to locate Miss Moore.”
“Thank you,” Rueben said gratefully.
At that moment, someone rushed in. “Chief, we found Miss Moore’s vehicle in the mountains of West Domoshire. It had crashed into a ravine. Two charred bodies were inside, and another was found halfway up a steep hill.”
Rueben’s eyes reddened, and tears streamed down his face. “Director, has something terrible happened to Jasmine?”
The director sighed. “Mr. Moore, please try to remain calm…”
Rueben cried out in anguish, covering his face. “Why…why Jasmine? She’s so young! Why wasn’t it me?!”
The director patted Rueben’s shoulder, beginning to offer comfort, when the reporting officer continued. “Director, surveillance footage shows four people were in the car when Miss Moore left the hotel. One person is still missing.”
Rueben looked up, stunned. “What? Someone else is unaccounted for?!”
“Yes,” the officer said urgently. “Four people entered the vehicle; only three bodies have been found. We strongly suspect the missing person is Miss Moore.”
“What?!” Rueben exclaimed. “What evidence suggests my sister is missing? Have you identified the body found halfway up the hill? Were the charred bodies in the car hers?”
The officer explained: “Mr. Moore, the body found halfway up the hill has been identified as Miss Moore’s assistant, Clarice. Regarding the two charred bodies, high-definition camera footage from the hotel shows the driver was in the driver’s seat, and one of Miss Moore’s assistants, Dee, was in the passenger seat. Miss Moore was in the back with Clarice.”
He continued, “Therefore, the charred body in the passenger seat is likely Dee. Unless Miss Moore switched places with Dee during the journey, a possibility we consider unlikely.”
The director added, “With Clarice’s body identified, the other two are probably the driver and Dee. This suggests Miss Moore may still be alive.”
Rueben nearly collapsed. He muttered, “What’s going on? Hashimoto’s associates were supposed to be dead, along with Jasmine! Why is she still alive?!”
