Chapter 2083
Jasmine couldn't imagine who would want her dead. Though the shadows of Reuben and Theodore flitted through her mind, she quickly dismissed them. Reuben, she reasoned, had been like a brother since childhood; he couldn't possibly harbor ill intentions. She wasn't naive, but she valued their affection and refused to doubt her cousin or uncle.
Charlie Wade, perceiving her lack of suspicion toward Reuben, considered her assessment superficial. He himself only suspected Reuben, and saw no need to elaborate with Jasmine until he had concrete evidence. He said, "Jasmine, for the next two days, you'll stay at Mr. Ito's. Don't contact anyone, and don't let anyone know you're alive. I'll investigate who wants to harm you."
Jasmine nodded respectfully. "Charlie Wade, I'll follow your instructions."
Charlie Wade smiled. "You haven't slept all night. Miss Ito will arrange a room for you to rest after dinner."
Nanako quickly interjected, "Miss Moore, what kind of room do you prefer? Japanese-style tatami or a European-style bed? I'll have the servants prepare it now!"
Jasmine replied, "Miss Ito, you're too kind. Anything will do."
Nanako smiled sweetly. "Then I'll arrange a Japanese-style room for you. It's quite charming."
Jasmine thanked her politely.
Ito Nanako said earnestly, "Miss Moore is a dear friend of Charlie Wade's. Consider this home while you're here." She added regretfully, "I'd love to show you Tokyo, but Charlie Wade has asked you to stay out of sight. We'll have our sightseeing later."
Jasmine was flattered by Nanako's politeness, considering the Ito family's prominence. However, a thought struck her: Nanako is treating me this kindly because of Charlie Wade. He truly is remarkable
While Jasmine pondered this, Nanako prepared matcha tea. Presenting the first cup to Charlie Wade with a respectful shyness, she said, "Please enjoy your tea, Charlie Wade."
Charlie Wade nodded and smiled, "Thank you, Nanako." He accepted the cup.
Nanako served Jasmine next. Jasmine noticed a difference: Nanako's eyes shone less brightly when serving her than when serving Charlie Wade. The difference was unmistakable; the light in Nanako's eyes when looking at Charlie Wade spoke volumes. It was the radiance of love.
A pang of sadness struck Jasmine. Charlie Wade always seemed to attract women.
