The Amazing Son-in-Law (Chapters 181-185) – Edited
Chapter 181
Gerald was shocked. The Thompson First suite, the White family's most valuable property, belonged to Zeke, Gerald's uncle and Kevin's father. Zeke was only second-in-command to Gerald's father. Even Gerald and his father couldn't afford the rent! Therefore, Gerald was stunned and uneasy when he learned his uncle had given the villa to Charlie Wade. He immediately called Wendy: "Wendy, one minute. I'll ask my uncle about this."
Wendy hung up and furiously glared at Charlie Wade. Gritting her teeth, she demanded, "Charlie Wade, what did you do? How did you trick Uncle White into giving you this property?"
Charlie replied nonchalantly, "Mr. White gave me this suite of his own accord."
"You're lying!" Wendy exclaimed. "You're not related to the White family! Why would Uncle White give you such an expensive suite for no reason? You must have used despicable means!"
Just then, Wendy received a call from Gerald. "Wendy, my uncle's busy. He hung up without saying anything."
Charlie sneered, activated his speakerphone, and called Zeke. Zeke answered immediately. Wendy was shocked.
"Mr. Wade!" Zeke exclaimed warmly. "Mr. Wade, have you been to Thompson First to see the villa? Are you satisfied?"
Charlie replied, "Yes, I'm looking at it now. It's a beautiful villa. Thank you."
Zeke responded, "Mr. Wade, no need to thank me. I'm glad you like it!"
Charlie continued calmly, "I'm calling to express my satisfaction."
Zeke said, "Mr. Wade, please don't hesitate to let me know if you need anything. I'll do my best to ensure you're satisfied!"
Everyone was shocked. They couldn't believe Zeke had willingly given the villa to Charlie Wade. Why? Especially considering Zeke was Wendy's future father-in-law and was so deferential to Charlie. Wendy was furious. Losing her temper, she interrupted Charlie's call: "Uncle White, I'm Gerald's fiancée, Wendy. Why would you give Charlie Wade this property for no reason? Tell me why!"
"Who do you think you are? Do you think you have the right to question my personal affairs?" Zeke responded coldly.
Wendy's face flushed. Charlie said, "Mr. White, I think you should explain. Otherwise, they'll be convinced I tricked you."
"Since Mr. Wade wants an explanation, I'll give one, out of respect. I owe Mr. Wade a great debt—he saved my life. Stop questioning Mr. Wade, or I won't let you off!"
Wendy felt humiliated, scolded by her future father-in-law in front of everyone. Christopher coughed and said, "Mr. White, Wendy's young. She was just curious. She had no ill intentions."
Zeke ignored Christopher and politely asked Charlie, "Mr. Wade, is there anything else I can clarify?"
"No, that's all," Charlie replied.
"Okay. I won't bother you further, Mr. Wade. Call me if you need anything."
Charlie hung up.
Chapter 182
Jacob Wilson, regaining his composure, asked in shock, "Charlie Wade, did the White family really give you this villa?"
"Yes, Father," Charlie smiled.
Jacob stuttered, still in disbelief. Claire rushed to her father: "Father, sit down and rest. Mr. White explained everything; everyone knows this property rightfully belongs to Charlie Wade." Claire emphasized "rightfully belongs."
Hannah gasped, "The White family must be crazy! If they wanted to give it away, why not give it to me?"
Harold envied Charlie intensely. He could never afford this villa in ten lifetimes. What kind of luck did Charlie have?
Christopher's face was stony. He felt the villa should have been his daughter's future property. This was unacceptable. Seeing his weeping daughter, his heart sank. He'd always looked down on Jacob, but now Jacob was far above him, thanks to his son-in-law. He asked, "Charlie Wade, what kind of debt does Mr. White owe you? Are you helping him under the Wilson family's name?"
Charlie replied lightly, "That's my business. No need to explain to you!"
Charlie turned to Barry: "It's late. Please see the guests out."
Barry respectfully led the guests out. Christopher glared at Charlie before leaving. Wendy followed, seething. They couldn't believe a "worthless" son-in-law could be so lucky.
Barry closed the door. After Harold's family left, Claire asked, "Charlie Wade, tell us the truth. What did you do for the White family?"
Charlie hesitated. Jack had been killed by his Thunder Order, and the White family feared him. Zeke gave him the villa out of gratitude. Charlie finally said, "I helped the White family with their Feng Shui. They gave me the villa in return."
Claire and her parents were stunned.
Chapter 183
Seeing Claire panicking, Charlie reassured her, "Don't worry about the suite. Mr. White won't cause trouble."
Jacob shook his head. "They'll regret this! They'll demand it back!" He continued, "You must return it! Otherwise, we're doomed!"
Elaine Ma exclaimed, "What?! Why should we return it? Mr. Zeke gave it to Charlie Wade!" She'd never imagined living in such luxury.
Claire said helplessly, "Mom! We shouldn't accept such a gift! It'll be troublesome!"
"No trouble at all!" Elaine snorted, looking at Charlie. "Oh, Charlie Wade, I didn't expect you to be so capable! We should've been rich long ago!"
Jacob argued it was inappropriate, but Elaine jumped up, pointing at him. "Don't give me excuses! I've lived in poverty all my life! Now I finally have a luxurious villa, and you want me to give it back? If you force our son-in-law to give it up, I'll divorce you!"
Jacob was speechless, flustered. Charlie grinned, "Dad, don't worry. The villa won't be taken away."
Elaine continued looking around, delighted. Claire couldn't take it anymore, pulling Charlie aside to whisper, "Charlie Wade, tell me the truth. What's going on?"
Charlie said, "Don't worry so much. It's inconvenient to explain now."
Claire, after considering it, said, "I'll believe you. But Charlie Wade, you shouldn't continue giving Feng Shui advice."
Charlie took her hand. "Don't worry, Claire. I won't do anything to worry you. Dad keeps pushing us to have a baby, what would you do if something happened to me?"
Claire blushed, pulling away. Elaine was excitedly planning to show off her new villa. Claire quickly said, "Mom! This villa was given to Charlie Wade"
"He's our son-in-law, so it belongs to us too!"
Chapter 184
Elaine felt triumphant. Charlie looked at her jade bracelet—the one Graham had given him, intended for Claire. He never expected Elaine to take it.
At the White family manor, Gerald reported to his father. "Dad, is Uncle crazy? He didn't even stay a day, yet gave it to Charlie Wade! You have to get him to take it back!"
Gerald's father had a solemn expression. He’d confirmed Gerald’s report with Zeke, who refused to explain, only saying he owed Charlie a favor. What favor could make Zeke, a thrifty man, give away such an expensive villa?
Gerald's father said, "I've called your uncle. He's determined. It's unlikely he'll ask Charlie to return the villa."
Gerald gritted his teeth. "Dad, don't you think something's wrong with Charlie Wade? We've been investigating him for so long, yet can't find anything. Isn't that odd?"
Gerald's father pondered, "Your uncle's shrewd. He wouldn't reward Charlie for no reason. Whatever it is, don't provoke him. I'll talk to your uncle tonight to find out everything about Charlie Wade."
Meanwhile, Christopher and his wife complained to Lady Wilson.
"Granny, I don't know what Charlie Wade did to trick the White family! He didn't invite you to live there, and he even drove our family out! He has no respect for his elders!"
Lady Wilson snorted in displeasure. "Yes! He has no respect!" She added, "If Charlie truly respects you, he'd give you the villa! You should enjoy it."
Lady Wilson's eyes lit up. Their current villa was old and worth only ten to twenty million. The Thompson First villa was far superior. She felt greedy. She agreed with Christopher: she should have the villa!
Chapter 185
As Lady Wilson dreamed of moving into the Thompson First villa, Christopher suggested, "Mom, I'm going to invite Loreen's family. I want to propose a marriage between Loreen and Harold. What do you think?"
"The Thomas family" Lady Wilson sighed. "Harold left Loreen and ran away! I don't think Loreen has a good impression of him."
Christopher said, "Our families are business partners. The Thomas family will focus on future prospects if our children marry. Even if the Wilson family can't compare to the Thomas family, we have the Emgrand Group."
Lady Wilson nodded. "In that case, let's invite them. If we don't live in a decent villa when they visit, we'll lose face. They'll decline the proposal."
"But if you get Charlie Wade to give us the villa in Thompson First, the Thomas family will visit. They'll think highly of us. Don't you agree?"
Lady Wilson nodded immediately. Living in a hundred-million-dollar villa would significantly improve the Wilson family's image.
"Ask your brother to bring his family here tomorrow! I'll talk to them."
Harold and Wendy exchanged pleased glances. Would Jacob and his family dare refuse Lady Wilson? If she asked for the villa, could he refuse? Since she favored Christopher, the villa would eventually belong to Christopher's family.
The next morning, Jacob took his daughter and son-in-law to Lady Wilson's villa. Claire asked, "Dad, did Granny say why she wants us to visit? Is something important?"
"She said we'll talk about it when we get there," Jacob replied. "Your uncle Christopher and his family will be there."
Charlie frowned; he knew it wouldn't be good. Claire said, "It must be about the villa!"
"If it's about the villa, Charlie Wade can explain to your grandmother," Jacob said, not thinking too much about it.
They arrived at Lady Wilson's villa. Charlie raised an eyebrow upon entering. Lady Wilson was on the couch, Christopher beside her. Harold and Wendy were across the room. Numerous other Wilson family relatives and elders were there. It was an intervention. Jacob, an honest and kind man, never expected his mother to do this.
