The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 196-200
Chapter 196
Claire Wilson retorted, "What prospects would I have? I'll find another job!"
Charlie Wade remained silent, listening to Claire. He walked to the veranda and called Zeke.
Zeke answered quickly. "Your nephew, Geraldโฆ is he engaged to Wendy?" Charlie asked.
"Yes," Zeke replied hastily. "What can I do for you, Mr. Wade?"
Charlie responded coldly, "I've severed ties with the Wilson family. If the White family approves a bride from the Wilsons, it's a profound insult. If you proceed, don't blame me for any future conflict."
He continued, "Were you not my father-in-law, I'd never allow anyone from my family to marry Wendy! I'll send someone to the Wilson family's property to announce the annulment immediately!"
Charlie nodded, pleased. "Okay, then. I'm glad I can count on you."
Zeke replied, "Mr. Wade, don't worry. The White family looks forward to working with you."
"Okay," Charlie said. "Get it done now."
"Okay, Mr. Wade!"
The Wilson family's aspirations of joining the White family would be shattered.
Charlie then called Doris. He would teach the Wilsons a memorable lesson.
As soon as connected, Charlie said coldly, "Doris, publicly announce that Emgrand Group suspends all collaborations with the Wilson Group, effective immediately."
Doris was surprised. "Mr. Wade, isn't the Wilson Group owned by your wife's family? Wouldn't this hurt her feelings?"
Charlie replied, "My wife has severed ties with the Wilson family. They'll have nothing to do with her."
Doris understood. "Okay, Mr. Wade."
The Wilson family would be ruined. Hadn't Lady Wilson been arrogant? He'd leave her with nothing.
After hanging up, Charlie saw Jacob Wilson resting on the sofa. His eye sockets were inflamed, the swelling on his forehead worsening. Charlie feared a serious injury.
It seemed Jacob had suffered a mental impact, possibly a minor cerebral bleed. He needed a craniotomy to remove any clot; otherwise, it would be a ticking time bomb.
Charlie decided to hide this from Claire for now.
He said, "I'm going to get some herbs to treat Father's injuries." He knew a prescription to improve blood flow and alleviate depression.
Claire asked, "What herbs? Will they work? Shouldn't we take him to the hospital?"
Charlie smiled. "I don't think we should go to the hospital. Doctors exaggerate conditions to push unnecessary treatments. I know a good prescription for swelling."
Claire nodded, and Charlie left.
At the door, he saw Graham from the Quinton family.
Charlie frowned. "Why are you here?"
Chapter 197
Graham grinned. "Mr. Wade, I heard about your troubles. I brought some herbs and medicine."
A bodyguard presented a red wooden box.
Graham opened it. "Mr. Wade, please look."
Inside were wild ginseng, Ganoderma lucidum, and other rare herbs. They were valuable but lacked significant spiritual powerโbetter than nothing, and useful for Jacob's treatment.
Charlie nodded. "Okay, give it to me."
Graham handed over the box. "Thanks to your advice, things are going well for the Quintons. Feel free to ask for anything you need."
Charlie replied, "Alright. If you have good herbs, send some my way."
"Okay!" Graham asked, "Mr. Wade, are you free for noodles at the Quinton estate?"
Charlie responded, "Maybe another day. I need to attend to family matters."
"Okay," Graham said. "I won't bother you."
Graham left. Jacob was experiencing a severe migraine, and Claire wanted to take him to a massage parlor.
Charlie said, "Dad, don't move. I'll prepare some pills; they'll alleviate your migraine."
Jacob asked, "Charlie, do you know medicine?"
Charlie smiled. "I learned a little in the past." (He couldn't reveal the ancient text's origin.) This ancient prescription could treat blood clots and serious brain conditions.
Jacob was skeptical. "I don't doubt your fighting skills, but treating illnesses by watching TV?" He coughed. "I think I'll ask Claire to take me to the hospital!"
Charlie smiled. "Okay, Father. If you don't trust me, go to the hospital. It's great if they can treat you quickly."
Jacob replied, "It's not that I don't trust you. I'm in pain and want a check-up." He turned to Claire. "Let's go."
Claire helped Jacob leave, and Charlie went to the kitchen to prepare the pills. He adjusted the prescription, removing some herbs to avoid it being too strong.
Chapter 198
The prescription originated from Sun Simiao's lost medical text from the Tang Dynasty. It was far more clinically advanced than other texts.
Charlie quickly prepared six walnut-sized honey pills.
When he finished, Jacob and Claire returned. Jacob was in significant pain.
Claire worriedly asked, "Father, if the massage didn't work, should we go to the hospital?"
Jacob waved his hand. "Oh, I don't want to go to the hospital. It's troublesome. I'm fine. I'll just rest."
Charlie approached with the pills. Claire smelled the herbs. "Charlie, are you making medicine?"
Charlie showed her the pills. "Dad, this invigorates blood flow and removes blood clots. It's very effective. Try one."
Jacob examined a pill, noting the fresh herbal scent and feeling revitalized. "You made this?"
"Yes," Charlie replied. "I just made it."
Jacob asked, "Have you studied medicine?"
Charlie explained, "I learned from an old man at the orphanage. His ancestors were Chinese doctors."
Jacob was dubious. "Are you sure? Will something a cleaner taught you work?"
"I guarantee it will work. Father, take one; you'll feel better instantly."
Jacob, in pain, swallowed the pill. Before Claire could ask, Jacob said, "It seems my head doesn't hurt as much."
He was stunned by the effect. Breathing was easier, his head clearer, and the pain was receding.
Jacob looked at Charlie happily. "Charlie, where did you get this medicine?"
Charlie replied, "Mr. Quinton delivered some herbs."
Jacob praised Graham. Claire added, "Mr. Quinton is kind and humble. If Uncle were half as good"
Jacob cut her off. "Don't mention him."
Jacob rested, and Charlie noticed Claire's disappointment. The Wilson family would pay for their actions.
Chapter 199
Lady Wilson and Christopher awaited news from Harold about seizing the Thompson villa. Instead, they learned he was gravely injured and arrested for breaking and entering and causing harm.
Lady Wilson was furious. "This must be Claire and her family! This is unacceptable!"
Christopher panicked. "Mother! Jacob is too arrogant! You must seek justice for Harold! He always listens to you."
Lady Wilson snorted. "So what if they kept the villa? It's just an empty shell! They have no money or power. How can they fight us? I'll take the villa and make them pay!"
A message arrived: Zeke White, head of the White family, had arrived.
Lady Wilson exclaimed, "Let him in immediately! I'll ask him why he gave the villa to Charlie Wade!"
Zeke entered with Gerald. They were there to annul the engagement. Gerald was tired of Wendy and her family's perceived inferiority.
Lady Wilson greeted them enthusiastically. "My in-laws! Why didn't you tell me you were coming?"
Zeke sneered. "Lady Wilson, you're remarkable!"
She forced a smile. "What do you mean?"
Lady Wilson urged Christopher, "It's unusual for Mr. White to visit personally. Invite him in; he's your future in-law!"
Zeke said, "I won't be staying. I'm here to discuss the marriage arrangements."
Lady Wilson replied, "Mr. White, we'll hold a grand wedding. Please let us know your requests."
Zeke said coldly, "I'll be blunt. The White family believes we have too many differences. I'm here to annul the engagement between Gerald and Wendy."
Lady Wilson and Christopher were shocked. Wendy cried out, "Why?! We booked the banquet!"
Gerald shrugged. "The White family decided. There's nothing I can do."
Chapter 200
Gerald and Wendy had been together for a long time; Wendy was previously pregnant, and Lady Wilson had her abort the child to avoid scandal. Now the engagement was off!
Lady Wilson was furious. "Mr. White, what do you mean? The Wilsons have never offended you! We treated Gerald like our son. Wendy was pregnant, and I asked her to abort because of reputation. How can you do this?"
Wendy burst into tears.
Zeke sneered. "Blame yourselves! You're shameless, Lady Wilson!"
Lady Wilson was shocked. "What did I do?"
Zeke replied, "You tried to take the villa I gave to Charlie Wade! How can I be related to such immoral people?"
Lady Wilson was stunned. "This is between the Wilsons and Charlie Wade. Why are you interfering?"
Zeke said coldly, "You're shameless! I gave that villa to Charlie Wade as thanks, and you tried to steal it? Look at yourselves!"
Lady Wilson felt a pain in her chest. Zeke had given her no face. She hadn't expected him to respect Charlie Wade so much.
Wendy sat on the floor, devastated. "Gerald, I was pregnant! You can't leave me like this!"
Gerald said, "Blame your grandmother, father, and brother! I can't forgive the Wilsons for beating up Uncle Barry. He's like a grandfather to me, and you tried to steal Charlie's villa! I don't want to be your son-in-law, and the White family doesn't want you!"
Christopher and Lady Wilson's faces were pale. They hadn't realized Barry's importance to the Whites.
Lady Wilson regretted trying to take Charlie's villa; she'd lost the villa and her granddaughter's marriage. Her dreams of using the Whites for power were shattered.
Wendy glared at Lady Wilson. "This is your fault, old woman! You ruined my happiness!"
