The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 256-260
Chapter 256
If that were the case, she wouldn't even be able to live in the villa Zeke had provided Charlie Wade. Considering this, Elaine Ma quickly conceded. Sighing, she said, "Okay, I'll support you. I won't mention the Wilson Group again."
Claire Wilson, relieved, replied, "Alright, then we won't leave."
Charlie Wade discreetly gave Claire a thumbs-up, impressed by her handling of her mother. His wife was extraordinary; she was always reliable in critical situations.
Jacob Wilson, until now silent, intervened. "Look! Why fight? Isn't it better for the family to be united and happy?"
Elaine Ma glared at him. "You said nothing before, and now you have so much to say? Charlie may be useless, but he got us a suite. All you do is play with your antiques!"
Jacob, frustrated, retorted, "Elaine! Don't you dare look down on me! Have you forgotten how I made a couple hundred thousand selling medicine?"
Elaine scoffed, "If you're arrested for fraud, don't expect me to bail you out!"
"You're a bitch!" Jacob shouted. "I'm talented at antiques!" He rushed into his bedroom, returning with a pen holder. "Look! This is worth at least a couple hundred thousand dollars!"
Elaine sneered, "When will you face reality? Do you think it's so easy to fool people?"
Jacob stomped his foot. "Don't underestimate me! This Qing Dynasty pen holder cost five thousand; Zachary will pay three hundred thousand!"
Charlie Wade was surprised. If genuine, it could be worth that much. However, he instantly recognized it as a modern fake, worth perhaps a hundred dollars at most. The seller clearly swindled Jacob. He wondered why Zachary, an antique dealer, would pay so much.
Chapter 257
Jacob's claim was met with incredulous stares. Elaine gasped, "You're saying someone will pay three hundred thousand for this? I doubt you could sell it for fifty!"
Jacob triumphantly replied, "Why would I lie? Check my messages." He showed a voice note from Zachary: "Uncle Jacob, you have a great pen holder! I'll give you three hundred thousand!"
Elaine was shocked. "Oh my god! You're amazing! A few more deals like this, and we'll be rich!"
Jacob smugly asked, "Convinced?"
"Yes!" Elaine exclaimed. She'd always favored money. Having forgotten her earlier words, she grinned, "My husband's incredible! Charlie's still the most useless one."
Charlie's expression changed. Had Jacob forgotten the herbal pills he'd sold? He needed to talk to Zachary. This was essentially giving his father-in-law free money.
Jacob handed the pen holder to Charlie. "Take this to Antique Street tomorrow and give it to Zachary. He'll give you three hundred thousand."
Charlie nodded. "Okay, Father."
Jacob continued, "Come with me to more antique events. You might develop an eye for antiques like me."
Charlie inwardly groaned, remembering Jacob's past blunders, particularly the broken vase. How dare Jacob expect him to learn from him?
Chapter 258
The next morning, Jacob urged Charlie, "Go see Zachary! Get my money!"
Charlie asked, "Father, you're not coming?"
Jacob replied, "I'm attending a Calligraphy and Paint Association event. I'm sure I'll be invited to private auctions!"
Charlie sighed, "Okay, I'll go to Antique Street."
Claire, bored, decided to accompany him. They drove in her car, but Claire insisted that Charlie drive, as she was tired.
Antique Street was bustling. Zachary had a long-standing booth. Charlie found him easily.
Zachary was boasting to a couple about a fake jade pendant, claiming it belonged to a Ming emperor and was worth millions. The couple left, unimpressed. Zachary cursed.
Charlie approached him, smiling. "Still cheating customers, Zachary?"
Zachary, startled, greeted Charlie enthusiastically and noticed Claire. Charlie cut to the chase. "You want to pay my father-in-law three hundred thousand for a pen holder?"
Zachary nodded excitedly. "It's worth three to four hundred thousand!"
Charlie pulled him aside. "Tell me why you're paying that much for a fake."
Zachary quickly explained, "Mr. Wade, I wanted to repay you. Your father-in-law gave me those amazing pills, and I made two million. This is my way of sharing the profit."
Charlie sneered. "You took advantage of him and now you're trying to compensate with three hundred thousand?"
Zachary trembled. "Mr. Wade, forgive me! I'll give you all the money! I want your friendship!" He knew better than to provoke Charlie, a powerful and influential figure.
Charlie said, "Forget it. My father-in-law doesn't know the pills' true value. Let's leave it."
He continued, "But I hope you'll help me if I need it. Understand?"
Zachary readily agreed. "Of course, Mr. Wade!"
Chapter 259
Charlie was pleased with Zachary's obedience. Zachary was smart and capable.
Charlie said, "Zachary, I'll treat you well if you behave."
Zachary quickly agreed, flattering him profusely.
Zachary produced a box containing three hundred thousand dollars. Charlie accepted it without checking and left.
Zachary asked, "Mr. Wade, you're not browsing?"
"No," Charlie replied. "Most items here are fake."
Zachary nodded. "Have a safe trip. I'm closing early."
Charlie inquired, "Where are you going?"
"To the small commodities market," Zachary replied. "I'll buy fake copper coins for a dollar each and sell them for one to two thousand on Antique Street."
Claire was shocked. "That's exploitation!"
Zachary shrugged. "That's how it works on Antique Street."
Charlie sighed, "Can't you do something honest?"
Zachary replied, "Mr. Wade, if I don't deceive people, I'll starve."
Charlie said, "Alright. Good luck."
Seeing that the commodities market was on their way, Charlie offered Zachary a ride. Zachary was thrilled.
As they left, a thunderstorm began. The heavy rain caused flooding, forcing Charlie to take a detour.
Zachary excitedly took a photo with Charlie and posted it online.
Chapter 260
Driving through a remote road, they saw an old Mercedes-Benz parked with a flat tire. A woman emerged.
Charlie initially wanted to leave, but Claire recognized the woman as Loreen and asked Charlie to stop.
Claire approached Loreen, who was upset about her two flat tires.
Charlie found it suspicious that both tires were flat. He offered Loreen a ride.
Suddenly, a silver object flew through the air, aimed at Loreen. Charlie pulled her into his arms just as it struck the car's hood. It was a sharp dagger. It narrowly missed Loreen, grazing her hair.
Two more daggers flew at them, but Charlie managed to evade them due to his skills.
Loreen was shocked. Someone wanted her dead!
Charlie saw a person staring from a nearby off-road vehicle.
Two men emerged, murderous. "Who are you? How dare you ruin my brother's plan?"
