Chapter 131

Sienna mentioned borrowing a horoscope artifact from Ophelia, leaving no reason for the two masters to stay. Elline signaled his secretary to send them off. Since Frank had already left, Edith had no reason to stick around either. She barely knew Sienna and doubted she would get any help borrowing a horoscope artifact, so Edith left to figure things out on her own.

Once they were gone, Elliot sat there without a word. Sienna, unable to endure the pain any longer, called Ophelia right in front of him. She kept herself from trash-talking Phoebe outright, but she still made it clear that Phoebe had messed her up and that she needed a horoscope. Then, she asked Ophelia to lend her one of her antiques. Ophelia didnโ€™t even hesitate; she agreed immediately.

Elliot frowned. He hadnโ€™t expected them to be so close. He hadnโ€™t forgotten that Phoebe and Reece were a thing. Based on the news, they broke up because Reece got tangled up with Sienna. Elliot had done business with Finnian, Reeceโ€™s father, and they often met up for games and meals. He had always had a good impression of Reece and had no issues with him dating Phoebe. But then the whole breakup turned into a public spectacle, and Elliotโ€™s opinion of Reece tanked.

And now, watching Sienna and Ophelia interact, it was giving mother-in-law and daughter-in-law vibes. It made him sick. Sienna had already led one of his sons astray, and now she had stolen Phoebeโ€™s boyfriend too. That was crossing a line. If he wasnโ€™t still looking into her connection with Nathaniel, he wouldโ€™ve told his wife to throw her out already. Sienna was an adult, anyway, and would survive just fine without the Jenkins family.

His frustration only grew as he looked at his two useless sons. โ€œIโ€™m going on a business trip overseas in two days. You two are coming with me.โ€ Joshua and Cain gawked at him. โ€œFor what?โ€ They werenโ€™t involved in the company and had zero interest in business; that was why this order confused them.

Elliot shot them a cold look. โ€œJust go with me. No need for all the questions.โ€ Then, he dismissed them. โ€œI have work to do. You two can leave now.โ€ He was set on keeping his sons away from Sienna for a while. Joshua sighed but nodded. โ€œGot it.โ€ He helped Sienna up, careful not to get too close.

Sienna could tell Elliot was annoyed, which made her uneasy. Still, she forced a sweet smile. โ€œAlright, Dad. We will head out.โ€ Elliot didnโ€™t brush her off. Instead, he gave her a small, reassuring smile. โ€œGo on. If you need anything, just ask me.โ€ Of course, he wasnโ€™t about to let her suspect anything. Seeing that, Sienna felt a wave of relief. โ€œOkay.โ€

However, once they were gone, Elliot called in his secretary. โ€œLook into Sienna and Nathaniel.โ€ Then, he got back to his paperwork. Meanwhile, Phoebe turned off the surveillance feed.

Brenda let out a sigh. โ€œDamn, your ex-dad is a real piece of work. Old foxes are impossible to fool.โ€ One moment, he was acting like the perfect father. The next, he was setting up an investigation. The way he switched gears was terrifying.

Phoebe smirked. โ€œIf he wasnโ€™t that shrewd, he wouldnโ€™t have made it as chairman. Jenkins Group is thriving for a reason, you know.โ€ Elliot was the most calculating person in the Jenkins family. There was no way he would not start suspecting Sienna.

Brenda frowned. โ€œYou think she is really working with those two?โ€ Phoebeโ€™s expression turned cold. โ€œYep. No doubt about it.โ€

Brenda wasnโ€™t convinced either. The way things played out today felt too staged, like Sienna was in on it. โ€œShould we dig into them?โ€

Phoebe shook her head. โ€œNo need. Heโ€™s already got people on it. If we start poking around too, we might tip them off. If they are planning something against me, they will make their move soon enough.โ€ This whole thing was a mess, and Phoebe didnโ€™t want Brenda caught up in it. It was too dangerous. She would handle it herself.

Brenda sighed, giving up. โ€œFine.โ€ She focused on downloading the files. โ€œThat detective I know found something. I will send it over.โ€ Before Brenda could finish, her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and scoffed. โ€œWell, well, the devil calls. This canโ€™t be good.โ€

Phoebe didnโ€™t even look up. โ€œLet me guess, she wants that horoscope artifact for Sienna.โ€ Brenda sighed, already annoyed. โ€œOf course. Typical.โ€ She put the call on speaker. โ€œWhat a surprise. To what do I owe the honor?โ€

Ophelia didnโ€™t like her daughterโ€™s sarcasm, but she bit her tongue and kept her voice gentle. โ€œI am your mom. Canโ€™t I check in on you?โ€ Brenda snorted. โ€œWow. Must be a cold day in hell.โ€

Ophelia went silent for a second, probably regretting calling. Dropping the act, she cut straight to the point. โ€œI need to talk to you about something.โ€ Brenda leaned back in her chair. โ€œI knew it; just say it already. No need for the fake concern; itโ€™s honestly painful to hear.โ€

Ophelia bristled. โ€œWatch your tone, young lady!โ€ She took a deep breath, clearly trying to stay civil. โ€œWe are mother and daughter. Do we really have to be like this!โ€

Brenda smirked. โ€œGee, I wonder whose fault that is. Anyway, if this is just a guilt trip, I will pass. Iโ€™ve got things to do.โ€ She paused, then added, โ€œIf you are in the mood to play the loving mom, maybe try Soren and Reece. They love that kind of thing.โ€

Ophelia gritted her teeth, but she held back. If she didnโ€™t need something, she would have hung up by now. Finally, she got to the point. โ€œI need to borrow one of your antiques. Something with strong energy, I will return it in two weeks.โ€

Brenda hummed as if considering it. โ€œOh, I do have something like thatโ€ฆโ€ She dragged out the words, then casually added, โ€œBut no, not lending it to you.โ€

Opheliaโ€™s tone dropped. โ€œBrenda, donโ€™t be difficult. If you refuse to listen, maybe your dad should have a word with you.โ€ Ophelia knew she couldnโ€™t control Brenda anymore, so she pulled out her last trick: using her husband.

But Brenda wasnโ€™t fazed. โ€œGo ahead, let him call me. Maybe we can all have a nice family dinner while weโ€™re at it.โ€ Ophelia nearly choked. โ€œUngrateful brat! Do you want to anger me to death?โ€

Brenda let out a lazy chuckle. โ€œDonโ€™t worry, if that happens, I wonโ€™t waste money on flowers. No need for you to glare at me.โ€ If it werenโ€™t for her dad and grandpa, Opheliaโ€™s family wouldโ€™ve ruined her. Now that she was back, she wasnโ€™t letting anything slide. Ophelia hadnโ€™t expected Brenda to be this ruthless. She was so furious she almost saw stars. โ€œYou youโ€”โ€

Before she could finish, Brenda hung up. That only made Ophelia even angrier. She immediately called Finnian, venting her frustrations and dropping heavy hints that he should be the one to deal with Brenda and get that artifact.
