Listen to this chapter:

Hailey wondered why Ewan wasn't answering his phone. "Did something happen to him?" she worried. An uneasy feeling crept into her heart. She feared Ewan might be in danger.

Carrying a bucket of popcorn, Hailey rushed to Yorhine University in the rain. By the time she arrived, she was soaked, but she had managed to keep the popcorn dry. Since they hadn't been able to watch the movie, she wanted to share the popcorn with Ewan.

She rushed off to look for him but stopped in her tracks. She had spotted him. Ewan was just ahead, and with him was someone Hailey recognizedโ€”Melody.

Ewan had finished applying medication to Melody's leg and had kept her company. Now that her ankle no longer hurt and she could walk, he was accompanying her home.

Hailey watched them walk side-by-side. Melody spoke shyly, while Ewan smiled. The pair talked and laughed like a couple deeply in love. Hailey froze, confused about her fiancรฉ's presence with Melody.

"So, he didn't show up at the cinema because of her?" Hailey thought. She felt foolish for worrying and rushing back in the rain, only to find him with Melody.

Hailey took out her phone and dialed Ewan's number. His phone rang in his pocket, but he ignored it, continuing to talk to Melody.

Hailey's heart sank, and anger at being lied to surged through her. She ran to block their path. "Ewan, why are you with her?"

Both Ewan and Melody stopped.

"Hailey," Melody said, looking weak and scared.

Ewan quickly shielded Melody behind him and glared at Hailey. "Why are you yelling? You scared Melody."

Hailey seethed. "We agreed to watch a movie at 7:00 p.m. Why didn't you show up?"

Ewan stared at Hailey's birthmark with disgust. Her disheveled, drenched appearance only increased his disgust.

He said coldly, "I forgot. We can always watch the movie another day. Do you need to be so unreasonable?"

The word "unreasonable" echoed in Hailey's mind. She scoffed.

"I don't think you forgot. You were busy having fun with Melody. Ewan, you're cheating."

Ewan felt a surge of guilt. "Melody and I didn't do anything."

"Whether it's physical or emotional, cheating is cheating. Since when are there levels to it?"

Hailey's sharp retorts left Ewan speechless.

Melody tugged at Ewan's shirt. "I'm sorry, Ewan. It's my fault for causing this fight," she said guiltily.

Ewan comforted her gently. "It's not your fault, Melody. I can't help it if that's what she thinks."

Glancing at Hailey, Melody flashed a taunting smile. Hailey's blood boiled, but she turned and left.

As Hailey walked away, she heard Melody ask, "Ewan, what's your relationship with Hailey?"

Ewan was silent for a few seconds before saying, "We're nothing."

Hailey laughed at herself. She and Ewan were engaged, yet he claimed they were "nothing." It was ridiculous; she felt like a fool.

After Hailey left, Ewan and Melody continued on their way.
