Revenge Forged in Prison

Chapter 39: That Is The Reason

Originally, Gianna wanted to have someone bring over his clothes. However, when she considered Caleb’s situation, she dismissed the thought. At that moment, Caleb was being hunted by the Quixall family, so she couldn’t give them the opportunity to find him. I will be the one to protect him.

Caleb felt somewhat uneasy. “Raquel is upset with you now. The moment you show up, she might give you a hard time.”

However, Gianna gave a dismissive smirk. “I too am quite upset with her. It’s more likely that she’s avoiding me.” The last time, Raquel caused a commotion at my family’s private resort and was taught a lesson by the security guards and receptionist. Upon returning, my father reported everything Raquel did to her father. I would be surprised if the latter didn’t lose his temper. Although the Sherman family wasn’t exactly a prominent family, they were by no means pushovers. Considering the modest standing of the Levinson family, they were simply not in the same league.

Despite Caleb’s objections, Gianna put on her jacket and prepared to go out. Before she left, she reminded Caleb, “Caleb, I have the key. If anyone else asks you to open the door, never do so, okay?”

Caleb was simply nonplussed. I’m not a child. Does she really have to tell me that? But to reassure Gianna, he simply responded, “Understood.” Only then did Gianna leave, feeling at ease.

What followed was a period of anxious waiting. Caleb was on edge, too anxious to sit still or focus on his phone. A flurry of unsettling assumptions raced through his mind, each one threatening to alter his current predicament if proven true. However, he was more concerned about Gianna’s safety than his own. The Quixall family is full of lunatics; there is no telling what they might do. What would happen if they set their sights on Gianna? No matter how powerful her father is, he won’t be able to arrive in time. If Gianna were…

The sweet voice eased his anxiety. Gianna, carrying several bags, turned around and shut the door behind her. Caleb forced himself to calm down. “You bought so many. One would have been enough. I’m not planning to stay for long.”

Gianna expressed her disagreement. “One outfit is hardly enough. Given how handsome you are, you should switch up your style more often.” When Caleb made an effort to dress up, he was undoubtedly more handsome than Jesse. Hence, Gianna felt a secret sense of indignation on behalf of Caleb.

Caleb didn’t respond. Instead, he suddenly said, “Next time, let me go. You just stay at home and rest.” Gianna became flustered. “Caleb, did you think I was gone for too long? There were so many people in the mall. I…”

Caleb cast his gaze downward, murmuring softly, “It’s not because of that, I’m just worried about you.”

Gianna was taken aback. So, that’s the reason… That’s the reason… The warmth on her face surged rapidly as she dashed toward the second floor once again. “Caleb, you should change your clothes. I won’t bother you anymore!”

Caleb also felt somewhat awkward. To be honest, what I meant was literal. There was no need for her to be shy…

After changing his clothes, Caleb gazed at his reflection in the mirror, momentarily lost in a daze. It had been a while since he had dressed up like that. Life in prison was bleak, where being able to have a meal was considered a luxury. Upon his return to the Quixall residence, Jesse was up to his old tricks again, handing him clothing that was embarrassing. Only Gianna was willing to regard him as a person. This debt of gratitude was truly difficult to repay.

Upstairs, Gianna had been tossing and turning on the large bed, her face still flushed. Does Caleb have feelings for me? Otherwise, why would he say that he’s worried about me?
