Chapter 133: Nine Lives
Hilda didn't reveal Felix's power to Jared, mindful of his inflated ego. Frankness would have prevented Jared from leaving.
After glancing at Yolanda, Jared said, "Hilda, you and Yolanda should go. I'll leave shortly."
Jared's refusal intensified Hilda's worry. She spoke truthfully. "Jared, Yolanda said Mr. Lawson is very strong. We shouldn't challenge him."
"Don't worry. I'm not afraid," Jared smiled faintly.
Seeing Jared's stubbornness, Yolanda admonished him. "Don't assume invincibility. Mr. Lawson is a key lieutenant of the Crimson Dragon Gang leader, an extremely skilled fighter. Two or three of you wouldn't stand a chance. Are you still staying?"
"What's to be scared of?" Jared responded nonchalantly.
"You" Yolanda exclaimed, then desperately pulled Hilda. "Hilda, let's go. He's offended the Crimson Dragon Gang; he won't survive the night. We shouldn't be dragged down with him."
Yolanda forcefully pulled Hilda away. Rhino wanted to stop them but didn't dare protest, fearing Jared's retaliation.
Shortly after the women left, several cars screeched to a halt.
The stall owner fled to his cabin. Patrons scattered; only a few brave onlookers remained.
Felix's terrifying reputation ensured no one dared offend him.
Rhino sycophantically opened a car door.
Felix, cigar in mouth, alighted. His authority awed the crowd.
Rhino greeted remorsefully, "Mr. Lawson!"
Felix frowned. "Rhino, you're a disgrace! Where's the troublemaker?"
"Mr. Lawson, he's there," Rhino pointed at Jared.
Felix's gaze fell on Jared. He shivered, dropping his cigar.
Rhino was stunned. He quickly picked up the cigar. "Mr. Lawson, he's just one man, but skilled. He defeated all my men."
Felix was enraged.
Jared's skills were far beyond "decent." He'd defeated Steven with a single kick. No one in Horington could match him.
Jared smirked. "Mr. Lawson! Fate has brought us together again."
Felix offered a servile smile and approached Jared. "Mr. Chance, I apologize. My men need better discipline."
Rhino stared, bewildered.
Jared smirked. "Your subordinate said I wouldn't survive even with nine lives."
Felix smiled awkwardly. "Impossible. No one in Horington can stop you." He turned to Rhino. "Rhino, get over here!"
