Chapter 134: Buying a Car
Astounded, Rhino could only trudge forward as instructed.
"Get down on your knees and apologize to Mr. Chance!" Felix kicked Rhino.
Thud!
Rhino dropped to his knees before Jared.
"Enough," Jared said. "Drop the act. Before Steven returns with his master, I won't harm your gang. Unless you annoy me."
Jared knew Felix's respect was feigned. He had become the Crimson Dragon Gang's mortal enemy after defeating Steven. Genuine respect was impossible.
As Jared left, a cold glint flashed in Felix's eyes as he watched his retreating silhouette.
"Mr. Lawson who is he?" Rhino asked cautiously, rising to his feet.
Slap!
Felix slapped him. "Let me warn you," he snarled. "Stay far away from him. He defeated Steven. Consider yourself lucky to be alive."
Felix and his men departed, leaving Rhino reeling.
Meanwhile, Hilda waited anxiously for Jared in their neighborhood. Yolanda had left after seeing Hilda home.
Chloe, seeing Hilda lingering outside, asked, "Hilda, why aren't you going in? Who are you waiting for?"
"Mom, go in. I'm waiting for Jared," Hilda replied anxiously.
"What happened? Why didn't you both come home together?" Chloe asked, noticing Hilda's worry.
"Heโฆ" Hilda faltered, unsure how to explain.
"Hilda, where's Jared? Shouldn't you be together?"
Hannah and Gary emerged from the house. Not wanting to worry them, Hilda quickly said, "He's busy with work; he'll be late."
"It's past office hours!" Hannah grumbled. "How much work can there be?"
"Mrs. Chance, go inside. I'll wait," Hilda urged. She didn't know when, or if, Jared would return.
"We were planning a surprise," Hannah sighed, "but he's still not here."
"Surprise?" Hilda was stunned.
Chloe explained, "Since public transport is inconvenient, Mr. Chance bought a car to make your lives easier. We wanted to surprise Jared."
"Mrs. Wallace contributed, too," Hannah added. "It's a gift from both families."
"I only gave a few thousand," Chloe smiled. "You paid for the rest."
Gary explained, "It's to help you get started. Once you're settled, you can buy your own. We're old; this is all the help we can offer."
"True," Chloe agreed. "We'll rely on both of you going forward."
Hilda blushed. Their words felt like an acknowledgment of their relationship, something she didn't oppose. Spending time with Jared, she realized she had fallen for him.
