Chapter 135: Indignation
She had no idea where Jared stood in their relationship.
โItโs getting late. What are you chatting about?โ Jared approached, smiling.
โJaredโฆโ Hilda rushed to him, checking for injuries.
Chloe and Gary, witnessing her reaction, smiled. Hannah sighed. โWouldnโt it be wonderful if I could see them married?โ
Jared felt the urge to explain that he only saw Hilda as a sister, but under everyoneโs hopeful gazes, he couldnโt. He reassured his mother, โMom, donโt worry. Iโll find a cure for your eyes.โ
โThereโs no need to worry about me,โ Hannah said, her tone guilty. โYou should focus on your jobs. Save up for a house and a car. We canโt help anymore.โ She felt bad that they couldnโt financially support Jared.
โHannah, their happiness matters most,โ Chloe said, patting her shoulder. โI donโt need anything.โ
Jared, filled with mixed emotions, still didnโt know how to tell them the truth.
Hilda changed the subject. โJared, Mr. Chance bought you a car. We can drive to work together.โ
Their parents were getting ahead of themselves; they werenโt even officially dating.
Chloe added, โJared, your dad spent all day getting this car. Itโs not much, but itโs better than public transport.โ
Downstairs, they saw a white, used Ford. Gary explained apologetically, โJared, itโs a second-hand Ford, but low mileage, one previous owner, good condition, and only forty thousand. Itโs the best I could doโฆโ
Garyโs words touched Jared. โDad, itโs a great car. I can support myself now.โ
โMmm-hmm. Weโre glad you have a good job,โ Gary said, nodding. โWork hard, and youโll get everything you want.โ
Jared planned to quit soon because of his training, but heโd postpone it until he could reassure his parents.
The next day, his colleagues ridiculed his used Ford, but he didnโt mind. Hilda felt blissful at the thought of commuting with him.
At the office, Zayne ordered, โJared, collect all the debts today, or youโre fired.โ He hated Jared for humiliating him the previous night.
Jared ignored him, but Hilda became nervous. โMr. Carlson, thatโs impossible! Arenโt you making things difficult for him?โ Hilda felt indignant at Zayneโs demand.
