Chapter 135: Indignation

She had no idea where Jared stood in their relationship.

โ€œItโ€™s getting late. What are you chatting about?โ€ Jared approached, smiling.

โ€œJaredโ€ฆโ€ Hilda rushed to him, checking for injuries.

Chloe and Gary, witnessing her reaction, smiled. Hannah sighed. โ€œWouldnโ€™t it be wonderful if I could see them married?โ€

Jared felt the urge to explain that he only saw Hilda as a sister, but under everyoneโ€™s hopeful gazes, he couldnโ€™t. He reassured his mother, โ€œMom, donโ€™t worry. Iโ€™ll find a cure for your eyes.โ€

โ€œThereโ€™s no need to worry about me,โ€ Hannah said, her tone guilty. โ€œYou should focus on your jobs. Save up for a house and a car. We canโ€™t help anymore.โ€ She felt bad that they couldnโ€™t financially support Jared.

โ€œHannah, their happiness matters most,โ€ Chloe said, patting her shoulder. โ€œI donโ€™t need anything.โ€

Jared, filled with mixed emotions, still didnโ€™t know how to tell them the truth.

Hilda changed the subject. โ€œJared, Mr. Chance bought you a car. We can drive to work together.โ€

Their parents were getting ahead of themselves; they werenโ€™t even officially dating.

Chloe added, โ€œJared, your dad spent all day getting this car. Itโ€™s not much, but itโ€™s better than public transport.โ€

Downstairs, they saw a white, used Ford. Gary explained apologetically, โ€œJared, itโ€™s a second-hand Ford, but low mileage, one previous owner, good condition, and only forty thousand. Itโ€™s the best I could doโ€ฆโ€

Garyโ€™s words touched Jared. โ€œDad, itโ€™s a great car. I can support myself now.โ€

โ€œMmm-hmm. Weโ€™re glad you have a good job,โ€ Gary said, nodding. โ€œWork hard, and youโ€™ll get everything you want.โ€

Jared planned to quit soon because of his training, but heโ€™d postpone it until he could reassure his parents.

The next day, his colleagues ridiculed his used Ford, but he didnโ€™t mind. Hilda felt blissful at the thought of commuting with him.

At the office, Zayne ordered, โ€œJared, collect all the debts today, or youโ€™re fired.โ€ He hated Jared for humiliating him the previous night.

Jared ignored him, but Hilda became nervous. โ€œMr. Carlson, thatโ€™s impossible! Arenโ€™t you making things difficult for him?โ€ Hilda felt indignant at Zayneโ€™s demand.
