Chapter 256: The Old Residence

โ€œMom, the area where the old residence is located will be developed soon. Itโ€™ll be worth a lot of money in the future!โ€

Jared wasn't interested in the money; he simply wanted to prevent Benedict and his family from profiting from it.

โ€œWhat? Itโ€™s going to be developed? Are you sure?โ€ Hannahโ€™s excitement was palpable. โ€œIf thatโ€™s true, weโ€™ll earn a considerable sum selling the house!โ€

โ€œOf course! Itโ€™s in the planning stages. I saw the report at Mr. Loweโ€™s house,โ€ Jared replied.

โ€œWhat are you talking about, Jared? Are you implying Iโ€™m trying to steal the land? You saw the report at Mr. Loweโ€™s house? Youโ€™re lying! Why donโ€™t you say you had dinner there?โ€ Benedictโ€™s face reddened with anger.

โ€œI did have dinner at Mr. Loweโ€™s house,โ€ Jared confirmed, nodding.

His words erupted in laughter.

Simon, who had been silent, sneered. โ€œIโ€™ve met boastful people, but youโ€™re on a whole new level. Do you know who I am? Mr. Lowe is having dinner here later with my father. Since you claim to have dined at his house, Iโ€™ll bring you along to see if he recognizes you!โ€

โ€œSure,โ€ Jared said calmly.

Hannah tugged at his sleeve. โ€œJared! Joking about the mayor? Are you trying to ruin yourself?โ€

Garyโ€™s face darkened. โ€œSit down, Jared!โ€ [Remove the website advertisement]

He found the idea of Jared dining at the mayor's house absurd.

Jared obeyed his father, sitting down as everyone smiled sardonically.

Benedict sneered at Jared. โ€œHannah, Jared is talking nonsense. Iโ€™d know about any development plan in that area. He just doesnโ€™t want a real job. Does an ex-convict like him really think he can visit Mr. Loweโ€™s house? I risk a lot to get Jared a government job, given his past. But Iโ€™ll still find him one. I wonโ€™t take the old residence for free; Iโ€™ll give you a hundred thousand. That should last you a few years. Rent a place; no need to live in someone elseโ€™s house!โ€

Hannahโ€™s eyes lit up at the offer. Considering the old residence's condition, it seemed a good deal.

โ€œBenedict, if you say soโ€ฆSince itโ€™s unused and neglected, take it!โ€ Hannahโ€™s excitement was evident.

Benedict was secretly pleased by her ready agreement. Heโ€™d only agreed to dinner because of the old residence and inside information about the development.

โ€œMomโ€ฆโ€ Jared frowned.

โ€œEnough. Iโ€™ve decided. Donโ€™t interfere. Weโ€™ll give the old residence to your uncle!โ€ Hannah dismissed him.

Gary, smoking silently, didnโ€™t object.

โ€œI disagree! We canโ€™t give them the old residence!โ€ Jared yelled, his voice firm. Heโ€™d never raised his voice to his mother before.

Benedict slammed the table. โ€œJared, who are you to disagree? Itโ€™s the Chance familyโ€™s old residence. Youโ€™re just an adopted child!โ€
