Chapter 256: The Old Residence
โMom, the area where the old residence is located will be developed soon. Itโll be worth a lot of money in the future!โ
Jared wasn't interested in the money; he simply wanted to prevent Benedict and his family from profiting from it.
โWhat? Itโs going to be developed? Are you sure?โ Hannahโs excitement was palpable. โIf thatโs true, weโll earn a considerable sum selling the house!โ
โOf course! Itโs in the planning stages. I saw the report at Mr. Loweโs house,โ Jared replied.
โWhat are you talking about, Jared? Are you implying Iโm trying to steal the land? You saw the report at Mr. Loweโs house? Youโre lying! Why donโt you say you had dinner there?โ Benedictโs face reddened with anger.
โI did have dinner at Mr. Loweโs house,โ Jared confirmed, nodding.
His words erupted in laughter.
Simon, who had been silent, sneered. โIโve met boastful people, but youโre on a whole new level. Do you know who I am? Mr. Lowe is having dinner here later with my father. Since you claim to have dined at his house, Iโll bring you along to see if he recognizes you!โ
โSure,โ Jared said calmly.
Hannah tugged at his sleeve. โJared! Joking about the mayor? Are you trying to ruin yourself?โ
Garyโs face darkened. โSit down, Jared!โ [Remove the website advertisement]
He found the idea of Jared dining at the mayor's house absurd.
Jared obeyed his father, sitting down as everyone smiled sardonically.
Benedict sneered at Jared. โHannah, Jared is talking nonsense. Iโd know about any development plan in that area. He just doesnโt want a real job. Does an ex-convict like him really think he can visit Mr. Loweโs house? I risk a lot to get Jared a government job, given his past. But Iโll still find him one. I wonโt take the old residence for free; Iโll give you a hundred thousand. That should last you a few years. Rent a place; no need to live in someone elseโs house!โ
Hannahโs eyes lit up at the offer. Considering the old residence's condition, it seemed a good deal.
โBenedict, if you say soโฆSince itโs unused and neglected, take it!โ Hannahโs excitement was evident.
Benedict was secretly pleased by her ready agreement. Heโd only agreed to dinner because of the old residence and inside information about the development.
โMomโฆโ Jared frowned.
โEnough. Iโve decided. Donโt interfere. Weโll give the old residence to your uncle!โ Hannah dismissed him.
Gary, smoking silently, didnโt object.
โI disagree! We canโt give them the old residence!โ Jared yelled, his voice firm. Heโd never raised his voice to his mother before.
Benedict slammed the table. โJared, who are you to disagree? Itโs the Chance familyโs old residence. Youโre just an adopted child!โ
