Chapter 257: A Gift of Wine
Jared froze for a few seconds before his expression darkened, his aura shifting dramatically to that of a demon. He leveled daggers at Benedict, grimly demanding, "What did you say? Repeat yourself!"
Benedict, initially startled by his gaze, quickly recovered. Fuming, he yelled, "Damn it! You're a bastard! You don't belong to the Chance familyโ"
Crash!
Gary smashed a glass on the floor, his face flushing with anger. He glared at Benedict, his body trembling slightly. "Shut up, Benedict! Say another word, and Iโllโฆ"
Benedict, seeing his brother's outburst, immediately fell silent and sat down. Gary, despite Benedict's usual disdain, still commanded respect when angered.
Jared's murderous aura filled the room, silencing everyone. Had Benedict not been his uncle, Jared would have killed him.
Hannah quickly intervened, pulling Jared back to his seat. "Jared, Benedict's anger clouded his judgment. Come, sit down."
Gary sighed, lit another cigarette, and began chain-smoking.
Moments later, their food arrived, filling the table. Two bottles of limited-edition Sauvignon Blanc wine were also present.
Both families exchanged astonished glances. No one had ordered white wine.
Javier stopped the waiter. "Excuse me. Was this wine served in error?"
"No, sir. It's a special request from Mr. Lewis. He asked for it to be sent to this room," the waiter replied politely.
The revelation that the wine was a gift from Tommy Lewis caused widespread confusion. While Benedict held a respectable position as an office administrator, it was insignificant compared to Tommy's status. There was no reason for such a lavish gift.
Stella suddenly exclaimed, "Simon has truly honored us! Even Mr. Lewis would gift us such amazing wine!"
All eyes turned to Simon, the only person present with potential connections to Tommy through his father, a ministry chief.
Benedict, mirroring the others' surprise, said, "Simon, I can't believe you know Mr. Lewis! These wines are incredibly expensive! It's a great honor to receive such a gift from him!"
Simon chuckled awkwardly. "Dad, Mom, I've only shared a few meals with him. I never expected such a generous gift."
Javier, overjoyed, declared, "Simon, you know someone like Mr. Lewis? This is amazing! No one will dare disrespect me in Horington now!" He envisioned a future free from bullying thanks to his brother-in-law's connection.
Gary and Hannah exchanged envious glances at the celebrating family.
Jared remained expressionless. He knew the wine wasn't for Simon, but chose not to reveal this. Benedict's earlier words echoed in his mind: Am I really an adopted child?
The memory of Draco checking his pulse in prison flashed back. Draco had suggested Jared wasn't from an ordinary family, a claim Jared dismissed due to his parents' humble backgrounds.
Now, doubt blossomed. He knew Benedict wouldn't make such a statement without reason. Suspicions about his origins began to fester. (The sentence referencing a website has been removed as it is irrelevant to the text cleanup).
