Chapter 32 Lagrange Monastery in Trouble
โShould I go with you?โ Tommy asked.
โNo need. Remember, protect Josephine. Iโm certain the Whitaker family wonโt let this slip,โ Jared said, grabbing his jacket and dashing off.
He floored the accelerator. A chill permeated his being throughout the journey. Renee was unique, possessing a rare, frosty constitution. If she could ascend to the heavenly realm, she would become incredibly powerful.
However, Jared wasn't yet capable of facilitating her ascension. For now, he could only modify her body to improve her condition. Instead of reckless modification, he planned to visit the monastery periodically to absorb her frosty energy.
Her constitution was rare, and Lagrange Monastery's danger worried him. Despite her frosty constitution, Renee couldn't control her own energy; like any young girl, she was vulnerable.
This spurred Jared to speed on. The car roared toward Lagrange Monastery.
He arrived at the foot of Lagrange Mountain near midnight. The sky was pitch black, the air heavy with the promise of rain.
After parking, Jared immediately ascended the mountain. As a Level Nine Energy Cultivator, his senses were acute.
Rumbleโฆ
Before reaching the summit, a lightning bolt cracked the sky, followed by a torrential downpour.
The rain didn't affect Jared; a faint fog shielded him, evaporating the raindrops before they touched his skin.
Near the summit, he saw guards. Someone had died at Lagrange Monastery, though he didn't know who.
He bypassed the guards. The stench of blood hit him upon arrival, lingering despite the heavy rain. Many had perished.
The rainwater in puddles was stained crimson, flowing down the mountain. Dozens of investigators in raincoats swarmed outside the monastery. Some approached, blocking his path. โWho are you? You canโt enter!โ
โGet out of our way!โ Two figures, Walter and Glen, burst from the monastery.
Approaching Jared, they greeted respectfully, โMr. Chance.โ
The investigators were stunned. Jared, a man in his twenties, was treated with deference by the mayor and a retired high-ranking official.
Jared nodded curtly and entered the monastery with Walter and Glen.
Inside, dozens of corpses lay scatteredโmonks, Erasmusโ disciples. Jared recognized most, having encountered them during his visits to absorb Renee's energy.
He examined their wounds: crushed throats, five wounds on each neck, blood still flowing.
โWhere is Abbot Erasmus?โ Jared asked.
โHeโs inside,โ Walter replied, leading Jared hastily into the monastery hall.
There, Erasmus lay collapsed, eyes wide open, his body stiff.
