Chapter 131

“Irvin can’t be left alone. Look after him!”

Kelly nodded solemnly. “Miss Haynes, don’t worry. I’ll take good care of him!”

“Then I’ll take my leave.”

“Goodbye, Miss Haynes!”

Joanna said nothing more. She grabbed her bag and left hurriedly. Bruce followed closely.

Joanna reached the parking lot and searched for her car keys, only to realize her car was still at the studio. Bruce had driven her and Irvin to the hospital.

Joanna frowned, resentfully returning the keys to her bag. She was about to hail a taxi when a car pulled up beside her.

“Get in!” Bruce rolled down the window, looking at her casually.

Joanna was stunned. Although she didn’t want to get in, she knew refusing him would enrage him. Helpless, she obediently got into the front passenger seat.

In the car, Joanna remained silent, her expression cold and indifferent. Bruce glanced at her repeatedly, his gaze subtly tracing her face, searching for the right words. The silence, however, was oppressive, a fog clinging to his thoughts and stealing his voice.

The ride was silent. Twenty minutes later, they arrived at Joanna’s residential area. She got out of the car and walked home without looking back.

“Hey!” Bruce called out from the car window.

Joanna stopped. “What?”

“You’re leaving like that?”

“I’m in a hurry!”

“I’m already here. Aren’t you going to invite me in?”

Joanna finally turned, looking at Bruce speechlessly. “Mr. Everett, my family is asleep. It’s inappropriate for you to come in!”

“Why not?” Bruce asked, exiting the car. “At least invite me in for a glass of water!”

“Alright then.”

Joanna walked ahead, Bruce following.

Back home, Miranda opened the door.

“Joanna’s back!” Miranda, the eldest, used Joanna’s nickname.

“Miranda, did you buy the things?”

“Yes, I got them!”

“Oh, great!”

“Mommy, you’re back!” Davian was still awake. Seeing Joanna, he ran over, worried. “Mommy, how’s little brother?”

“Little brother is fine. Davian, don’t worry. It’s late. Why aren’t you asleep?” Joanna put down her bag and gently stroked his face.

Davian looked worried. “Mommy, can I go to the hospital later? I want to see little brother!”

“It’s very late. You need to sleep. You have kindergarten tomorrow!”

“But…”

Davian paused, noticing Bruce at the door. “Mommy, why is this big baddie in our house?”

Joanna pursed her lips. “Hmm… Don’t worry about it. Be a good boy and go to sleep, okay?”

“Okay…”

Joanna, having no time to waste, said coldly to Bruce, “Make yourself at home. I don’t have time to entertain you!”

Bruce, resentfully, went into the living room and sat on the sofa. Tracy quickly poured him a glass of water and placed a fruit platter on the coffee table.

Soon, Joanna entered the room to prepare dumplings, assisted by Miranda. Bruce sat elegantly on the sofa, exuding a cold, unapproachable aura. On the other end, Davian sat cross-legged, imitating Bruce, though his short legs made it comical. His round face puffed up as he glared fiercely at Bruce.

Three minutes later…

Bruce felt uncomfortable under the child’s intense stare. It was the first time a child had stared him into discomfort. He subconsciously adjusted his posture, crossing his arms and frowning, staring back at Davian. Davian, thinking it was a challenge, mirrored his posture. They stared, like lion and cub.

Bruce was inexplicably amused. “Little guy, what’s your name?”

“You’re the little one!”

“I know your name. It’s Bruce Everett!”

“Uh… You seem very hostile.” Bruce was surprised, curious about the child’s opinion of him.

Davian’s fierce expression remained. “Are you trying to bully Mommy again?”

“I’m warning you. If you dare bully Mommy again, I’ll teach you a lesson!” Davian threatened, flexing his small fist.

“Hmph.” Bruce smiled, dismissing the child.

Bruce’s disdain angered Davian. “Hmph, don’t think you can treat me lightly because I’m young. I grow up very quickly.”

Bruce’s smile deepened. He found the child inexplicably adorable, even amidst the threats.

“I’m talking to you. Do you hear me?”

Bruce snorted. “Um, are you really Jaydon’s son?”

“Hmph!” Davian arrogantly tilted his head. “Why should I tell you?”

“Because you don’t look like your father at all.”

Davian was angry. “Mr. Grimm is not my father! And I’m not his son!”

Bruce’s heart sank. He subconsciously lowered his leg. “Then where is your father?”

“Why must I tell you?”

Bruce was speechless. The child had Joanna’s temper, showing him no respect. Yet, he called Jaydon “Mr. Grimm.” Had Joanna lied to him? Were these three children his? Had she deliberately lied, claiming they were Jaydon’s?

Although Jaydon was anxious when the child got into trouble, he didn't show much grief.

However, the paternity test and birth certificates Joanna showed Grandma were real. Grandma was astute; she would have noticed any forgery.

Bruce was lost in thought.

Joanna emerged from the kitchen with a bowl of noodles. “The noodles are ready. Eat up!” She placed them on the table.

“That’s fast.”

Joanna rolled her eyes. “Hurry up, don’t waste my time!” It was just a bowl of noodles, taking less than ten minutes to make. She wanted to quickly send Bruce away.
