“Call the police? What good would that do? I'd become the laughingstock of Jipsburg. Everyone would think I'm ruined. Who would ever respect me again? I'd have to leave the city!”

“Joe, you’re too ruthless. I was clearly the victim; I didn’t know anything. I only went to Mr. Edwin for help because I wanted to be with you. But he hurt me! How could he?” Tears welled in her eyes as she looked at Joe. She felt utterly aggrieved, convinced she was the only victim.

Skylar listened silently, speechless, while Rowan’s face darkened. Joe remained impassive.

Seeing no change in Joe’s expression, Jenny froze. She should have known. Joe had always been cold. His indifference was unwavering, regardless of her pleas.

She glanced at Skylar, equally composed despite Joe’s abandonment. The other woman’s serenity infuriated her. How could Skylar endure it? Or was she merely pretending?

Jenny then turned to Rowan. “Rowan, I hate you most of all. You said you liked me, that you wanted to be with me. You waited all these years, but after we finally got together, you stopped caring, blamed me, and broke up with me. You despised me! You’re even more heartless than Joe. Why did you look down on me, knowing I was the victim? I never looked down on you! When we were together, I was serious; I even considered marrying you!”

Rowan frowned. “Were you serious? Jenny, don’t lie. It’s useless.” He couldn't believe her stubbornness. From her conversation with Skylar to Joe, every word shifted blame, absolving herself of responsibility. He realized his years of foolishness; he’d been deceived.

Jenny’s face flushed. “Rowan, you’re selfish! You regret it, don’t you? You want Minerva back, I know you still think about her. But she’ll never take you back! Everyone gets what they deserve. Your punishment for not wanting me will be losing her!”

The wind intensified, causing Jenny to sway. She subtly moved away from the edge. Rowan’s expression changed at the mention of Minerva.

Seeing his reaction, Jenny’s face tightened. “I knew it. You can’t tolerate me anymore because you don’t want to be with me. You only got together with me to fulfill your unrequited love. Once I agreed, you felt no need to treat me well. My mistake just gave you an excuse to break up with me.”

“Think whatever you want,” Rowan said, losing his patience. Jenny had pleaded, accused, and now unleashed her fury completely. Her eyes reddened. “Rowan, I don’t want to break up with you! We can’t break up! You have to stay with me! If you don’t, I’ll jump! Joe and Skylar will be witnesses. If I jump, you’ll be the murderer! You’ll live with that guilt forever!”

Rowan stared, stunned, at Jenny’s face, contorted with anger and desperation.
