Chapter 1123
Steven vaguely remembered going to a bar the previous night, waiting for someone while sipping a drink. Then, a memory clicked.
Joe, noticing the sudden shift in Steven's expression, explained, "You're in a hotel. Someone slipped you something at the bar last night, and you ran into Annie."
"Annie?" Steven's face changed dramatically. The coincidence was bizarreโbeing drugged and encountering Annieโyet he had no recollection. He looked down at himself, searching for answers.
Joe continued, "Someone saw you leave with Annie and told Skylar. Annie left after bringing you to the hotel. Don't worry, nothing happened between you two."
Relieved, Steven sighed. "That's good to hear. I'm sorry for the trouble."
Joe nodded. "You should go to the hospital today. There might be drug traces in your system."
"Okay," Steven frowned, surprised that someone would drug people in a bar. He considered the unimaginable consequences for a woman alone in such a situation. His expression darkened.
Joe used the bathroom, then rejoined Steven, saying, "Skylar's resting in the next room. I have things to attend to; you two can have breakfast before you leave." With Joe present, private conversation was impossible.
After Joe left, Steven also went to the bathroom. Ten minutes later, he opened the curtains and checked his phone. Several missed calls included ones from Skylar and Mona. He called Mona first.
"Sorry, something unexpected happened last night," he said.
"Oh, I thought something might have happened. I'm glad I didn't wait too long at the bar. As long as you're okay."
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'll set up a time to meet in a few days. Just don't go to that bar again."
"Okay, I agree. That place is too loud anyway," Mona replied.
After a brief conversation, Steven hung up and called Annie, only to find her number disconnected. He raised an eyebrow, deleted the number, and called Skylar, but she didn't answer. A knock came a minute later.
"Steven, how are you feeling? Anything bothering you?" Skylar asked, carefully assessing him.
He looked fatigued, but otherwise fine. However, Joe's message about his memory loss and the effects of the drug worried her. A shiver ran down her spine.
Steven chuckled, seeing her concern. "It's nothing serious. I was just careless."
"Steven, you're handsome, so it's easy for people to target you. Be cautious in such places," Skylar said, thinking about the dangers of his striking appearance. He'd matured in the past two years, making him even more noticeable.
Steven smiled and nodded. "Got it. I'll be careful."
"Why did you suddenly go to a bar?" Skylar asked.
