Chapter 116

“Maybe I was too blind to believe in you before, but I won’t waste my time anymore. Get out of my way!” Skylar’s anger was barely contained.

She listened patiently, not out of expectation, but to witness their shamelessness. She felt relieved; they were as shameless as she’d anticipated.

Amelia’s face twisted into bitterness. “Skye, how could you? What did we ever do to deceive you?” She clutched her chest, feigning distress.

Christopher’s handsome face paled. Remembering Maisy’s words, he bit his lip and blurted, “You’ve changed. Was Maisy right? Have you been seeing someone else? Are you cheating on me?” He practically yelled the last part, incredulous at Skylar’s supposed betrayal. He’d thought she’d never leave him. Who knew she’d become a “sugar baby”?

Amelia continued, her voice dripping with self-righteousness, “Skye, you were always the model student, a good kid. How could you throw away what you and Christopher had for so many years? And even if you did throw it away, you didn’t have to stoop so low. Being a sugar baby is breaking Christopher’s heart.” She hated Skylar; if they were to break up, Christopher should have been the one to end it. Even then, if Christopher hadn't found someone else, Skylar shouldn't have moved on to someone more successful.

Paul frowned. “Are they out of their minds? The Williamses said I was Ms. Sullivan’s sugar daddy. I think they all need an eye exam.” He glanced at Joe for his reaction.

Unexpectedly, Joe’s cold look back seemed to question Paul’s worthiness. Paul inwardly screamed his unworthiness; he didn't want to be sent to Aglana.

Joe focused on the medical report in Skylar’s clenched fist. His gaze darkened.

“Give me a break! You’re heartless, and I believe in karma. You’ll get what’s coming to you. The world is big, but your minds are twisted and boundless. You can’t imagine anyone acting differently. Get out of my way!” Skylar snapped, her patience exhausted. Their manipulative words sickened her.

Christopher and Amelia’s eyes widened in disbelief.

“Skylar!” Amelia yelled, anger threatening to overwhelm her.

Christopher’s face darkened. “Do you know what you’re saying? Skylar, you’ve changed.”

Joe was already striding toward them; Skylar hadn’t noticed him. Christopher wouldn’t back down, but seeing Paul behind Joe, he saw an opportunity. He pointed accusingly at Paul, approaching Joe. “Mr. Martin, your assistant, Paul, has acted inappropriately. He stole my girlfriend! She’d just graduated and didn’t know how dangerous people could be. That’s why he took advantage of her!” He shouted, playing the victim.
