Chapter 1191

After leaving home that morning, Skylar went first to the Gardner Group. She hadn't seen Alexander in over three years, and he looked much the same. Caleb, however, appeared more mature, diligently following his grandfather's guidance. He frequently contacted Skylar with questions.

"Why have you lost weight? Is the food there unsatisfactory? I'll have fresh vegetables sent," Alexander said, his concern evident as he noted Skylar's weight loss.

Living far from home and grieving Joe's loss, both Skylar and Gloria had suffered immensely. Life's unpredictable turns had been unkind.

"Grandpa, Edgar sends food monthly; we have everything we need, don't worry," Caleb replied, finding his grandfather slightly overdramatic. But seeing Skylar in person revealed what video calls couldn't—she had indeed lost considerable weight.

Skylar smiled. "Yes, I can find anything I need. I lost weight recently due to a cold and fever that suppressed my appetite, but I've already gained two or three pounds since returning." This wasn't an exaggeration; she'd weighed herself upon her return and gained about two and a half pounds after a few days of healthy eating. Jipsburg's climate and food seemed to agree with her.

"Haha, that's good," Alexander said, relieved. "Will you be staying for a few months this time?"

"I'll stay a month and see how things go. I'm still a bit worried about Grandma," Skylar replied, concerned about Gloria's medication adherence and loneliness in her absence. Although Gloria had friends abroad, she sometimes neglected her medicine.

"You're such a good kid," Alexander sighed sadly.

Noticing his sadness, Skylar quickly shifted the subject. "Mr. Gardner Senior, I have news about that person."

"What?" Alexander's attention snapped to her.

Skylar recounted her encounter with Ursula, omitting the Ruell family's actions, focusing instead on the cursed necklace and Kevin.

Alexander's expression darkened upon hearing this. "It seems he plans to cause more trouble! We absolutely cannot let him succeed."

Skylar nodded. "I'm heading to the Hughes family next to assess the situation."

"Leave the search to me. I'll have people look for him. A person can't simply vanish in Jipsburg," Alexander declared, his eyes narrowing with determination. He needed to find this person quickly to prevent further trouble.

"I'll accompany you to the Hughes'. They might give you a hard time, but with me, they won't dare be unpleasant. Plus, there's a charity gala tomorrow night, and I need a date—will you come with me?" Caleb suggested rapidly.

Over the past few years, he'd realized his feelings for Skylar were unique. He had liked her for years and remained steadfast in his affection. With Joe no longer an obstacle, he was determined to win her heart.

Skylar was about to refuse, but Alexander nodded. "It's not a bad idea for this brat to accompany you. The situation with the Hughes family is likely more complex than with the Ruells. As for the gala, it's your decision. Such events are frequent in Jipsburg; the auction of rare antiques might interest you."

Skylar smiled. "Alright." Turning to Caleb, she said, "Let's go."

As Skylar left, Caleb whispered to Alexander, "Just you wait, I'll bring you a granddaughter-in-law."

Alexander rolled his eyes. "Look in the mirror; do you think you're worthy? Now go." His grandson possessed only one notable trait: an inflated ego.
