Chapter 1251
Looking at her unfinished breakfast, Skylar felt a wave of loneliness. Knowing she was flying out of Jipsburg today, several people had called to check on her.
“Are you scared of being home alone? Why don’t you have Charles come stay with you? He’s not filming today because of the bad weather,” Janine asked over the phone.
“Mom, it’s fine. Let him rest at home. He rarely gets a day off. With this weather, the roads are bound to be congested and unsafe. Everyone should stay home and be safe,” Skylar replied.
Janine didn’t push further.
Outside, the wind howled, and rain lashed against the windows. The noise and gloom left Skylar feeling dazed.
After what seemed like an eternity, Jeremy called. “Skylar, we found Mr. Ziegler.” His voice was serious.
Skylar didn’t detect any happiness in his tone. In her excitement, she momentarily overlooked his somber demeanor. “You found him? What about Joe? What’s their situation?”
Jeremy said, “First, listen carefully. This is very important. We found Mr. Ziegler. He was held in an underground factory, his movements restricted daily. We paid thirty million dollars to get him out, but Joe wasn’t with him.
His condition isn’t good. He’s been abused and injected with various substances. He seems to have amnesia or is disoriented. We’ll need doctors to examine him. All his identification was lost, but it can be replaced at the embassy in a few days.
I’ll arrange for Mr. Ziegler’s return to Jipsburg, but you need to cancel your flight and wait for updates from Murida.”
“Joe isn’t with Mr. Ziegler?” Skylar’s expression changed.
Jeremy’s voice grew grave. “That’s right. We have to wait for Mr. Ziegler to wake up and see if he remembers anything. We might try hypnosis to help him recall what happened. Just… don’t panic. Now that we’ve found Mr. Ziegler, locating Joe shouldn’t be as difficult.”
A tumult of emotions stirred within Skylar. Agreeing with Jeremy, she sat rigidly on the couch. Both Joe and Paul had gone missing, but only Paul had been found…
Chapter 1251
Paul had been suffering in that underground factory for years. She wondered what had happened three years ago. Where could Joe be?
She tightened her grip on her mug. All these questions would have to wait until Paul woke up. Lost in thought, an hour passed before the doorbell rang.
Skylar walked to the door. From the security camera, she saw Charles holding an umbrella. She opened the door.
As Charles put away his umbrella, he said, “Mom and Steven were worried about you being home alone. They remember how scared you were of thunderstorms as a child, so I rushed over. If it weren’t for the bad weather, I would’ve arrived sooner.”
Skylar looked at Charles, a hint of realization dawning. “I can manage. I used to be scared of thunder and rain, but I’ve grown up. I’m not afraid anymore.”
Charles noticed something was wrong. “You don’t seem quite right. Tell me if something’s bothering you.” He saw she wasn’t her usual cheerful self. Her face looked drawn, her expression heavy.
“It’s nothing. My flight got canceled, and I woke up too early this morning, so I might just need some rest,” Skylar replied with a smile. With Paul’s situation uncertain, she didn’t want to worry Charles.
“I see. If you don’t sleep well, you should take a nap. You can try my cooking when you wake up. I just landed a role as a chef and have been practicing hard. Today, I’ll show you my amazing culinary skills,” Charles said confidently.
“Sounds great! Thanks, Charles. Just call me when it’s ready.” Skylar smiled, wanting to keep her emotions hidden.
She headed upstairs, eager to escape the conversation.
Once Skylar was gone, Charles furrowed his brow. Her troubles clearly went beyond a lack of sleep.
