Chapter 1261
Natalie rolled her eyes. "I don't care what you think. Apologize properly, or leave. I don't want to see you."
If Rosa had apologized immediately, her attitude would be far better now. Her earlier treatment of Skylar only fueled Natalie's irritation. Natalie wondered who Rosa thought she was, ordering Skylar around.
Rosa's face flushed. "Fine! We're done."
Just as she turned to leave, a deep voice interrupted. "Where are you hurt?"
Ned's voice was the reassurance Rosa craved, yet it also annoyed her; she didn't want him to see Skylar. Tears welled in her eyes as she said, "My hand and head are injured. It's not too serious, though."
"Why were you driving?" Ned asked coldly, glancing at her injuries.
Rosa's driving record in Murida was less than stellar; several minor accidents had caused considerable trouble. Feeling guilty, she replied, "I didn't expect to rear-end anyone. I don't think it's my fault."
"Yes, yes, you rear-ended someone because they had no right to be on the road? Is being the only car on the highway your ideal scenario? It's a tragedy for law-abiding drivers when someone like you gets behind the wheel. And by the way, you're fine, while I have a concussion!" Natalie exploded, exasperated by Rosa's denial.
It was clear Rosa had rear-ended someone, yet she persisted. Ned noticed others in the room, glancing at Natalie in her hospital bed. His gaze then fell upon Skylar, and he froze. Their eyes met, and Skylar felt a wave of awkwardness. She'd blocked him, assuming she wouldn't see him again. The unexpected encounter highlighted just how small Jipsburg truly was. She nodded slightly; his intense gaze left her unsure of his thoughts. Perhaps he was concerned about Rosa. However, Skylar had no time to ponder.
Ned's unusual look at Skylar made Natalie suspect something was amiss. It wasn't just the concussion; she sensed something more. Ned harbored feelings for Skylar. His expression had been flat regarding Rosa's injuries, but seeing Skylar changed that completely.
Rosa noticed Ned's gaze, her already pale complexion worsening. Pulling Ned close, she said, "I shouldn't have driven, but I was bored in Jipsburg. I was scared after the accident. I promise I won't drive again."
"Okay," Ned replied, nodding. He turned back to Skylar. "Since the accident is clearly our fault, let's discuss compensation."
Skylar was surprised by his words and his renewed focus on her.
Natalie quickly interjected, "Skylar is my best friend, so you can discuss compensation with her directly."
