Chapter 199
Christopher stared at Skylar in shock. "You… are you serious?" He wasn't sure if Maisy's story was true. Skylar didn't seem like the type to be a mistress. She had hit him yesterday, and now she was threatening to sue.
He found her unfamiliar. The Skylar he remembered would have unconditionally believed him, even if she'd caught him with Maisy. But now…
"Why are you still bothering me after we broke up?" Skylar demanded. "I don't want you back. You just want my money, don't you? Save your breath, Christopher. I have to hand it to you—you're good at scamming money. But try that again, and I'll make sure you rot in prison," she warned icily.
Christopher's former classmates, intimidated by the threat of a lawsuit and fearing the surveillance cameras, silently slipped away. The other onlookers, under Steven's piercing gaze, also dispersed.
Within minutes, Christopher was alone and helpless. He regretted his actions deeply. "Skylar, trust me. I'll treat you well, and I'll never hurt you again. Give me another chance." He couldn't understand her coldness.
Steven pulled out his phone. "Say one more word, and I'll call the police."
"Call them, Steven," Skylar said, smirking at Christopher but addressing Steven. "He harassed me yesterday, and now he's bothering you. The police need to teach him a lesson."
Christopher's face paled. "Skylar, are you sure you won't regret this?"
"Regret, my foot!" Steven exploded. He couldn't believe Christopher's lack of shame.
Skylar sneered silently.
Christopher gritted his teeth. "There are misunderstandings. My mother is having surgery soon. Afterward, we should talk. I don't want our relationship built on misunderstandings. I'm sorry for today. Let me treat you to dinner as an apology."

"No dinner, no apologies. Just leave," Steven said, dismissing him. He now understood Christopher: utterly shameless or earnestly manipulative. He’d wasted his energy pursuing a woman with Christopher's Machiavellian tactics. Christopher was a complete scumbag.
"Everything he says is nonsense," Steven told Skylar. "Don't believe him. He'll betray you once he gets what he wants." He was worried.
"Don't worry, Steven. I'm married. I don't have feelings for him," Skylar replied with a smile.
"That's good," Steven said, relieved.
Joe and Paul, having just finished work, strode into the hotel. They had an early flight to Jipsburg the next morning.
"Mr. Martin!" A cloying, unsettling voice echoed from the lobby.
