Chapter 237
Peter's expression suddenly changed. He had doubts. Could they have found the wrong person? Was it not John? But the photo clearly showed both of them; it had to be genuine.
Peter said, "Do you have any concerns? Are you afraid your fiancée will find out? We won't publicize this. It would affect our family's reputation. Our request is simple: help us, the Williams family, and we'll leave Skylar alone. We won't disturb your family." He gritted his teeth, making their purpose clear. In his opinion, Skylar's contribution to their family was an honor.
Sadie frowned. She felt he shouldn't have said that; it made Skylar seem like a mere tool. John thought the Williamses were a joke. They hadn't treated their daughter well, first pushing her to be someone's mistress, then questioning her abilities. What else could such people be but enemies?
"Call Connor," John told Suzy.
Suzy immediately called Connor Coleman, the Gardners' lawyer. Seeing John's decisive, unconcerned demeanor, Jeffrey became furious.
"Aren't you afraid Skylar will discover your true colors? You're incredibly rude to her parents! She'll be furious," he warned.
"Consider the consequences if outsiders, or your fiancée, learn of your affair," Sadie threatened.
They had to ensure John helped them. The worst-case scenario was severing ties and John abandoning Skylar.
"Mr. Gardner, Mr. Coleman will be here in five minutes," Suzy informed John.
Jeffrey and Sadie still didn't take the situation seriously, believing John was merely afraid of exposure, merely acting. But Peter's expression changed. Could they be mistaken? John's call to Connor meant things were getting serious.
John glanced at his watch, then texted Joe. Joe replied decisively, "When did you become so good-natured? Softened after taking over the Gardner family? If Jacob returns, he'll be too embarrassed to leave the house."
Jacob Gardner was John's older brother. John was furious. Joe was as irritating as ever.
"Do you think Skylar will tolerate your annoyance?"
"Don't worry."
John rolled his eyes.
Connor arrived at Gardner Manor. Suzy had already briefed him. He wondered how such problematic people existed—three of them, causing trouble and threatening John. Were they not afraid of death?
"You slandered my client, Mr. Gardner, and threatened him into working with you?" Connor asked Jeffrey and the others coldly.
The Williamses' expressions changed.
Ten minutes later, the three left Gardner Manor, looking disheveled. Suzy almost chased them out with a broom.
"Could we have made a mistake?"
