Chapter 328, Part 1

Skylar had informed the Sullivans before her trip to Korel City, so Janine wanted her to enjoy herself without worrying.

Skylar woke as dawn broke. After a night's rest and IV fluids, her fever had subsided, and her upset stomach had settled. However, she still felt weak.

Joe lay on the couch, eyes closed and frowning. Sleeping like that couldn't have been comfortable.

Knowing he had stayed up with her all night made Skylar feel apologetic. She'd been delirious with fever last night; she must have looked terrifying.

Now, though, she needed to use the bathroom.

Skylar slipped out of bed quietly. As soon as her feet touched the floor, she almost collapsed. She realized she'd fallen ill two or three times since marrying Joeโ€”more often than in any other year.

Feeling frustrated, she slowly walked to the bathroom.

Just as she reached for the door handle, Joe's voice came from behind her. "Did you just wake up?"

Skylar turned. Joe was staring at her from the couch. His eyes lacked their usual drowsiness; instead, they held a coldness and intimidating air he seemed oblivious to.

Skylar nodded stiffly. "Yeah, I just woke up. Thanks for last nightโ€ฆ umโ€ฆ I need to use the bathroom first."

"Want me to help you?" he offered, rising.

Skylar's face flushed. "No need! I can manage." She feared she wouldn't be able to relieve herself if Joe helped.

Watching Skylar hurry into the bathroom, Joe felt some of his drowsiness fade. She seemed much better.

Skylar spent more than ten minutes in the bathroom. Her pale, haggard reflection in the mirror was unbearable. A bout of gastroenteritis had made her look as if she'd fought a serious illness.

As Skylar emerged, Paul entered the room, carrying the comforting scent of chicken soup. After being sick all night, the aroma made Skylar hungry.

"I picked this up on my way here. It's from a five-star hotel, so it's clean and nutritious," Paul said quickly as Skylar stepped out of the bathroom. He glanced at Joe, then apologized to Skylar, slightly blushing. "I'm sorry, Ms. Sullivan. I didn't expect the food from that restaurant to cause diarrhea. It's my fault."

"It's not your fault. It's my body. I've never traveled before, and it's natural to have trouble adjusting. I'm fine now, more or less," Skylar replied. She hadn't blamed Paul; her body had been weak from frequent blood donations. Although her health had improved, she'd overlooked the dietary changes away from home. If she'd prepared medicine and eaten less, things wouldn't have escalated. It was her own fault for overeating.

Paul breathed a sigh of relief.

Joe approached. "The doctor said your current condition only allows chicken soup. You shouldn't eat anything else."

"Okay!" Skylar nodded obediently. She had to follow the doctor's advice.

Joe's eyes softened at her obedience. She looked endearing.
