Chapter 329

Joe's tone softened involuntarily. "Go ahead and eat first."

"Okay."

Skylar settled onto the hospital bed, eyeing the chicken soup hungrily. "Let's eat together."

Paul brought coffee and a sandwich for Joe, who had already eaten breakfast at the hotel. The ward was quiet, except for the faint sounds of Skylar and Joe eating.

Ten minutes later, Skylar had finished her bowl of chicken soup. A knock came at the door. Thinking it was the doctor, Skylar was startled to see a woman in a hospital gown.

The woman appeared to be around Skylar's age, but slender, the gown hanging loosely on her frame. She had a pretty, endearing face and pure, sparkling eyes that immediately evoked sympathy. She seemed like a genuinely lovely person.

"Ms. Scott!" Paul exclaimed, clearly surprised to see Jenny Scott.

He glanced at Joe, who seemed unfazed, as if he had expected her arrival.

"Are you guys having breakfast? I hope I'm not interrupting," Jenny asked cautiously.

"Not at all," Joe replied calmly.

Skylar glanced at Joe, then at Jenny. A gut feeling told her Jenny might be Joe's type. She remembered a gentle voice on the phoneโ€”it had probably been Jenny.

"I'm Jenny Scott, Joe's godsister," Jenny said warmly. "Joe mentioned you. Now that you two are married, can I call you Skye?"

Skylar smiled and nodded. "Of course."

Godsister? She hadn't heard Joe mention Jenny before.

"Skye, you're the most gorgeous woman I've ever met!" Jenny gazed at Skylar, somewhat mesmerized. Skylar's beauty was strikingโ€”stunning yet intimidating.

Jenny pursed her lips.

Skylar often received compliments, but hearing one from another beautiful woman made her smile wider. "You're really pretty too," she replied.

Jenny's eyes crinkled. "Thank you. Joe told me yesterday you had gastroenteritis and a fever. How are you feeling?"

"Much better now. No symptoms," Skylar replied with a smile.

"That's good. Just take it easy." Jenny glanced at Joe and noticed the redness in his eyes. Concerned, she asked, "Did you sleep last night, Joe? Your eyes look red. Do you need to rest?"

Joe's gaze softened. "I slept a few hours. It's not a big deal."

Skylar watched their interaction. They seemed like siblings, but not quite. She'd never seen Joe so gentle with another woman.

Annie had claimed to know Joe for years, yet he'd always been distant and cold toward her. He didn't seem to hold much regard for anyone and wasn't enthusiastic about romance. Yet with Jenny, he was relaxed and gentle.

Skylar took a sip of water. She convinced herself Joe's private life was none of her concern, and she shouldn't let curiosity get the better of her.

"I have a great sleep mask in my room. I'll get it for you. Joe, you really need to pay more attention to your insomnia," Jenny said seriously, frowning.
