Chapter 352
Out of habit, Skylar didn't avoid Joe and even moved closer. After a while, he fell asleep holding her. His breathing gradually settled into a calm, steady rhythm.
The next morning, Joe informed Skylar that he had a three-hour video conference. Hearing this, Skylar decided to visit the hotel's aquarium.
Skylar left, bag in hand, while Joe was in the middle of his video conference. She closed the door gently. Joe glanced at the door, then returned to the screen.
After exiting the elevator, Skylar followed the staff's instructions and found the aquarium. She rarely visited aquariums since childhood. Her last visit might have been during a high school summer vacation when Steven took them. The tickets were too expensive then. She had even less time after college, working part-time to cover tuition and living expenses.
After entering, she took several photos and sent them to their family WhatsApp group. Several family members saw them and praised her photography, encouraging her to have fun.
The hotel's aquarium was huge. By the time she finished exploring, three hours had passed.
Joe called as Skylar headed back to the hotel.
"I'm going to the hospital. Are you coming?" he asked.
Remembering their departure for Jipsburg the next day and their planned visit to Jenny, Skylar replied, "Okay, I'll wait for you in front of the hotel."
She waited a few minutes before Joe appeared. Seeing him, she offered him a sausage. "Do you want this?" she asked.
She had seen a stand selling grilled sausages outside the aquarium. They smelled wonderful, so she bought two; they were still hot.
Joe looked at the sausage and replied faintly, "I don't like it. You eat."
Skylar nodded and ate it. She thought this kind of sausage was more suited to ordinary people like her. It made sense that Joe, accustomed to luxury, would dislike it.
Since their return from the sea the previous day, his behavior had been more perplexing. Fortunately, Skylar didn't dwell on trivial matters. She acted as if she hadn't noticed anything unusual.
Their car arrived in about two minutes. Still eating her sausage, Skylar asked Joe, "Can you wait a couple more minutes? I want to finish this first."
"Okay." Joe remained beside her, not entering the car.
Skylar ate quickly, finishing the sausage in a few bites. "I'm done," she said.
She signaled to Joe, and they got into the car. An unexpected silence filled the car.
Lucas, their driver, who had been picking them up recently, had noticed their harmony. However, the current tension was palpable. He didn't dare speak.
They arrived at the hospital in silence.
Jenny was on the phone when they entered the ward, likely chatting with a classmate. Seeing them, she quickly ended the call.
