Chapter 380
Sadie texted Janine that the issue was settled after everyone was taken away. She then informed Steven the coast was clear and she would update him upon his release.
They promptly went to the police station. Peter kept glancing at Skylar and Jacky while they waited. Kenny, Samuel, and other show staff were also present. Their large group made the station feel cramped, but the officers patiently took their statements.
Jacky's lips twitched as he read a text from Joe before looking at Skylar. Skylar found his expression odd and asked, "Did you need something, Mr. Lourdes?"
"It's nothing," Jacky replied curtly. He wasn't about to let the case slip through his fingers, even without Joe's instructions.
Kenny sat beside Maisy. He and Samuel glared at Skylar. How dare she call the cops on them! They couldn't understand why the Gardner Group would make such a fuss over a "measly worker." It was ridiculous. Lately, nothing seemed to go right, which was incredibly frustrating.
Kenny had initially felt guilty toward Skylar, but that guilt vanished. He now considered her nothing but trouble. However, he worried Maisy was frightened, so he comforted her, saying, "Don't worry, Maisy. It'll be fine."
Maisy wasn't actually afraid; her brothers could handle anything. She was baffled, though, by Skylar's ten-thousand-dollar-a-month salary at Gardner Group, especially considering Skylar had only recently been hired.
During their trip to the station, Peter mentioned that the Williamses and the show would be held accountable because of Jacky, Martin Group's legal advisor. This meant Skylar could access Martin Group employees, confirming her suspicions.
Maisy bit her lip in frustration. She couldn't stand the humiliation. Skylar noticed Kenny and Maisy's affectionate behavior; it was quite obvious to anyone paying attention. She recalled Christopher's slip about their relationship, then looked at Peter and Samuel, who were oblivious to the romance. She scoffed internally, "The Williams family is truly rotten to the core."
Keppy and Samuel were bewildered. "Skylar was in the wrong! Why should we apologize? Mom got into a car accident. She shirked her duties. That's why we contacted the show. She should be apologizing!" Samuel shouted.
Kenny looked gloomy. "Skylar, you shouldn't do this." He was disappointed she'd dragged them to the police over a quarrel. He couldn't understand why she was so different from Maisy, who was good and obedient and never caused trouble. Skylar, on the other hand, constantly caused problems. Was it so hard to be a good girl?
Jacky witnessed the Williamses' shamelessness and remembered Joe's words: He didn't want Skylar to waste her time on such people; their words would only corrupt her. Jacky clicked his tongue. Joe worried about Skylar's ears, but what about his own?
He leaned toward Skylar and said, "You can leave this to me, Ms. Sullivan."
