Chapter 630
Skylar's gaze softened. Unhurriedly, she said, "I'll file a police report for you." She would have helped, even if the caller had been a stranger. However, that was the extent of her assistance.
"No! Give me a million! It's nothing to you! How could you watch me perish without trying to save me?" Maisy demanded angrily.
Skylar asked nonchalantly, "Where are you?"
"It doesn't matter where I am. You must save me! If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have met Christopher. If I hadn't met him, I wouldn't be trafficked here. Do you know what my life is like now? I'd be better off dead! Do you understand?" Maisy's voice was laced with desperate fury. She loathed Christopher above all others.
"I'll call the police now. Calm down and wait for help," Skylar said.
Suddenly, Maisy screamed, "I've made a mistake! It's just a mistake! I don't know what's going on! I know nothing! I wasn't talking to anyone! It was someone else! Believe me! Aaargh!"
Skylar heard Maisy being slapped and electrocuted. She frowned. Then, the call ended. Someone had evidently taken the phone and hung up.
Skylar called the police and reported the incident.

The police informed her that they encountered similar situations frequently. The situation in the Askea region was extremely complex, and they could only await further developments. Skylar didn't mention Maisy's claim about being trafficked by Christopher; she couldn't verify its truth. Maisy and Christopher seemed equally culpable.
Joe hadn't come home for three days. Skylar didn't inquire about his absence.
On the fourth day, a middle-aged woman called, requesting a meeting. She identified herself as Joe's stepmother, acting on his father's instructions, and cautioned Skylar against mentioning the meeting to Joe.
Both Joe and Gloria rarely spoke of their extended family. Skylar knew Joe didn't have a close relationship with his relatives. Why, then, did his stepmother want to meet her?
Shortly afterward, Skylar met the woman. She was a well-maintained, elegant woman, appearing to be around forty. At first glance, Skylar found her familiar. Once seated, Skylar realized why: the woman was Molly Frost, a hugely popular actress from two decades prior. Her fame had rivaled Austin's; her posters adorned countless homes. At the peak of her career, she'd retired from the entertainment industry.

Despite her retirement, national television stations frequently aired her films and shows, especially during summer holidays. Skylar was unprepared to discover Molly was Joe's stepmother.
Molly, too, was surprised to see Skylar. She found Skylar prettier than most celebrities, possessing a quiet, demure air.
