Chapter 632
Skylar looked down at her water, then grinned mockingly. Molly, satisfied by Skylar's reaction, produced a check from her bag. "You can fill in whatever value you like," she offered.
Most women would likely be unable to refuse such an attractive offer; a sum beyond the reach of ordinary people, yet within Skylar's grasp. Skylar stared at the check, remaining impassive. "I don't want it. Please take it back," she replied coldly. She wasn't interested in sudden wealth.
Bewildered, Molly asked, "What would you like, then?" She recalled unrealistic dramas and novels, their impractical notions of love leading young women to believe that refusing everything offered would somehow magically win a man's heart and his fortune.
Molly had considered Skylar trustworthy, but now saw her as youthful and impressionable. Even disregarding the complexities of wealthy families, Joe wasn't the type to be swayed by such romantic ideals.
"I want Joe to tell me he wants a divorce himself. The second he says so, I'll leave immediately," Skylar stated firmly. Only a personal decision from Joe would suffice.
Molly frowned, attempting to dissuade her. "You're too young. You don't know what marrying into the Martin family entails. You'll face numerous challenges, far beyond the capabilities of an inexperienced woman. Though this is our first meeting, I believe you're intelligent. You should know better."
"I listened not because you're telling the truth, but because you're an elder. I understood what I was getting into when I married Joe. He just texted, saying he's home. I apologize, but I must leave," Skylar replied, rising to gather her bag.
Molly's brows furrowed. "Did you think Joe liked you? Do you know why he's been alone all these years? He has someone he loves, returning from overseas. The moment she gives him the nod, he'll divorce you. You won't be able to ask for anything then. Gloria isn't your get-out-of-jail-free card. Don't you understand?"
Hearing about Joe's beloved, Skylar's grip on her bag tightened, yet her composure remained unwavering. "I understand. However, I stand by my statement. If Joe divorces me because his crush has returned, I'll sign immediately. Don't worry; I'm not interested in the Martin family's assets. I won't ask for anything."
Molly watched Skylar depart with a somber expression, the crease between her brows deepening as she saw the untouched check on the table.
Minutes later, Molly made a call. "Skylar hasn't agreed to a divorce. Darling, she's not easily manipulated. I don't think she'll leave Joe easily. We'll likely need to work through Joe."
"We must ensure a divorce before their marriage becomes public. She's nothing more than a village girl. Think of a way to get it done."
After a pause, Molly replied, "Alright."
Skylar called Joe upon entering her car. He'd texted, but she hadn't responded. "I was busy. I'll be home soon." Joe replied, "Alright," his low tone revealing his mood. Skylar's eyes darkened; she hung up after a moment.
Twenty minutes later, she arrived at Galaxy Villa. Just as she was exiting the car, Paul called. "Mrs. Martin, Mr. Martin has been in a bad mood these past few days. I can't say why, but I hope you can spend some time with him."
After a pause, Skylar replied, "Alright."
