Chapter 634

They had sweated profusely. Both were hungry, and they ate quietly.

Afterward, Joe asked, "Aren't you curious about where I've been these past few days?"

Skylar looked at him. "Didn't you say you had something to handle?"

"A few members of the Martin family returned. I went to meet them," Joe said quietly.

Skylar nodded. "Alright, then. Do you need me to help with anything?"

Molly's visit meant neither of them would have peace. Skylar suddenly recalled Molly's words: Joe loved a woman.

"Not for now," Joe said coldly. "Perhaps I'll take you to meet them in a few days. Just remember, Gloria is the most important member of my family. The others are just relatives; they're unimportant."

She and Joe were similar; they cared only about Gloria. Skylar didn't care about the Martins or their desires; only Gloria mattered.

Noticing Skylar's kind expression, Joe realized he'd become extremely cold. He might have scared her or caused misunderstanding. He started to explain, but Skylar turned on the television, seemingly unaffected. Joe swallowed his words and joined her on the couch.

Though sitting together, their thoughts were their own. Skylar's eyes were on the television, but her mind was elsewhere.

Natalie waved goodbye to Austin and Hank. "Thanks, Mr. Powell. Thank you, Hank. I'll head in now. See you guys tomorrow."

Austin's event had just ended. It was late, so they'd asked the driver to drop her home first.

"Be careful. See you tomorrow," Austin replied, nodding.

"Alright, you too!"

Natalie watched Austin leave, then walked home. Seeing the brightly lit mansion, she knew Jeremy was home. He had been every day for the past week.

The awkwardness between them persisted, despite their daily encounters. They maintained distance and courteous behavior. Natalie inhaled deeply, thoughts swirling, then entered.

A silhouette stood by an upstairs window. Jeremy noticed her hesitation.

Meanwhile, Hank said to Austin, "Why has she moved back? Got back together with Jeremy? That explains her request to end her break and return to work."

He watched Austin's expression. Austin's jaw was clenched; he hadn't spoken since Natalie left. Hank guessed what was happening.

"Looks like they're back together," Hank sighed. "With her temper, she wouldn't have moved in otherwise. Natalie's a perfectionist, yet she tolerated Jeremy's affair. Love conquers all, they say. Marriage is hard."

It was time for Austin to give up.

Austin's eyes glinted. "She definitely went home for a reason."

Based on his understanding of Natalie, Jeremy wouldn't repair the damage. There was no point in hoping for things to return to how they were. A broken mirror is hard to fixโ€”it's more than just a saying.
