Chapter 636

As Gloria waited for Skylar's arrival, she asked Edgar to prepare a delicious meal. Glancing at the clock, she murmured, "Skylar will probably be here in ten minutes."

Edgar nodded. "Most likely," he agreed. "Though the roads might be congested at this hour."

Gloria's brow furrowed. "I can't believe they dared to disdain Skye! How could Edwin, with his appalling taste in women, find a suitable match for Joe? He hurt Joe's mother, and now he wants to destroy Joe's marriage! I'm furious!"

Edgar offered immediate reassurance. "Calm down, Mrs. Martin Senior. They haven't met Mrs. Martin yet. Naturally, they don't know what an exceptional young woman she is. This is perfectly normal. Besides, Mr. Martin is very determined. They won't be able to destroy Joe's marriage, even if they try."

Gloria's worry persisted. "I've been so anxious these past few days. I'm afraid they won't be able to weather this. If their relationship sours, there will be serious problems."

"You've been dwelling on this until it's invaded your dreams," Edgar said gently. "You're fretting over their relationship, which is why you're so nervous. Last night, our helpers delivered their dinner and heard them… quite passionate in the bedroom. How could their relationship possibly sour? Don't overthink it, Mrs. Martin Senior. Mrs. Martin would be worried if she knew."

Edgar's words calmed Gloria. Just then, Skylar arrived. Her smile faltered at the sight of Gloria's pale face. "Grandma, are you feeling ill?" she asked.

She'd been overwhelmed with work lately and hadn't visited Gloria at Pearlhill Residence, a lapse she only now realized.

"Nothing," Gloria said, waving Skylar closer. "I just missed you. Come, let me take a good look at you."

Skylar sat beside Gloria, sensing her unusual demeanor. Had Gloria summoned her because Edwin had returned?

"I've had several projects on my plate," Skylar explained. "I intended to have dinner with you a few days ago, but it slipped my mind amidst everything." She should have prioritized Gloria, especially considering Joe's recent behavior.

"If you have work to do, focus on that," Gloria said, taking Skylar's hand. "I simply thought of you today and wanted company for dinner. I'm getting old and the loneliness is difficult." The contact calmed her.

A sudden thought struck Skylar: Viola, always so delighted by Skylar's school stories. Now alone in Zindel Residence, without family, she must be terribly lonely.

"Then I'll visit often," Skylar said. "On weekends, I might even stay overnight."

Gloria nodded. "That's wonderful. But if you're busy, just stay at Galaxy Villa. My place is far from the city center; driving back and forth would be a waste of your time."

At her age, Gloria recognized genuine kindness. Skylar was a good woman and wouldn't let those narrow-minded people destroy their marriage. "There's something I need to tell you," Gloria said worriedly. "If any of the Martins try to pressure you into leaving Joe, ignore them. With me here, no one will come between you two. Live a good life with Joe, alright?"

Skylar finally understood Gloria's apprehension: She feared the Martins would try to contact her.
