Chapter 639

Before discovering his affair with Annabelle, Natalie regularly sent Jeremy messages—sometimes cute selfies—flirting and reminding him to eat. Jeremy hadn't initially thought much of it. However, despite Natalie's attempts to reconnect, these seemingly insignificant details now painted a troubling picture.

Just then, Tristan knocked and entered. "Mr. Hughes, Mason Chavez, Annabelle's stepfather, just called. He asked if you'd offended anyone. Annabelle confessed; someone approached her, gave her the bracelet, and she contacted him directly. She's unsure of his identity; he always wore a mask, is approximately seventy years old, and has since blocked Annabelle and deleted his WhatsApp account."

Jeremy's eyes darkened. "Did you say a seventy-year-old man?" Even if he had enemies, a man that age wouldn't be among them; he was old enough to be his grandfather. This was a carefully orchestrated scheme, and Annabelle was merely a pawn. Even without her, others would take her place.

Jeremy looked sullen. No one had ever successfully plotted against him before.

"I'll investigate immediately," Tristan promised.

After Tristan left, Jeremy called Joe. "You're not his only target. He likely included Mr. Doherty, Mr. Solarius Senior, and others. Even Mr. Gardner Senior fell victim to his nefarious plans," Joe explained.

"It seems this old man is targeting Jipsburg's wealthy families. Many others may have unknowingly suffered. I'll warn John later and ask Skylar about preventative measures."

Jeremy lit a cigarette. After a long drag, he exhaled, mockingly saying, "What a brave old man. Or perhaps, not a man at all."

Their conversation concluded with a brief exchange:

"Thanks for reminding me." "If you have nothing else, I'll hang up." "Okay."

Jeremy then messaged Natalie: "What time do you get off work? I'll pick you up."

Minutes later, Natalie replied. Seeing her brief message, Jeremy narrowed his eyes. He wouldn't let Natalie slip away because of someone else's schemes.

Jenny stood before the Martin Group building, résumé in hand, for her scheduled interview. She'd reached her current position through talent and hard work. She rarely visited the Martin Group, previously only passing by. The thought of Joe's surprise filled her with excitement.

Before entering, Rowan called. "Are you really going to the Martin Group?"

"Yes, I've made up my mind," Jenny stated firmly. Her visit to Galaxy Villa had only strengthened her resolve. She couldn't bear watching Joe and Skylar's happy life, a life she'd once fantasized about sharing.

Her Jipsburg friends urged her to reconcile with Joe. Everything she possessed was thanks to him. Jenny wasn't a child; she knew what she wanted.

Rowan was silent before saying, "I hope you won't regret it."

"If I didn't come today, I would regret it," Jenny replied.

"Alright, good luck."

Jenny frowned. "Rowan, I know you'll be my best friend no matter what."

Rowan chuckled softly. "Once I'm engaged, I won't be your best friend anymore. Everyone's selfish; you'd better look out for yourself."
