Felicia initially believed Skylar's text was a plea for mercy. Instead, she found a forceful message: “Ms. Ingram, I’m sure you know the truth about you and Charles. If you’re doing this because of the accident, I’ll make sure you regret it.” There was no begging, no vulnerability. Felicia's displeasure was evident.

“Skylar has the nerve to demand things from me after getting with Joe! She even threatens me. Does she think she can push me around after my upbringing in Jipsburg?”

Adele peered at Felicia’s phone. Seeing the text, she gasped. “Um, maybe we should step back? This isn't an empty threat. Skylar is clever; she even achieved her beauty through surgery. Joe fell for her.”

“Why be scared? She’s just his lover. The accident was humiliating enough; someone even asked me about it the other day! I've never been so humiliated. Besides, it’s been a long time. Joe’s probably sick of her. If she’d begged for Charles, maybe I would have helped.”

Adele agreed. “You’re right. Men like Joe treat women like Skylar—from a lower-class background—like toys. He’ll never truly love her. You're different.”

Felicia smiled. “Exactly.”

Time flew. Darkness fell outside. Freddie watched the growing number of journalists. He checked Instagram and his texts. “Several brands are ending their collaborations with you,” he reported.

Since Skylar's arrival, they'd been working on a solution. His company managed Charles's Instagram; he couldn't even explain the situation. Freddie panicked, but his siblings remained calm, especially Skylar. She'd contacted a lawyer and the police.

Freddie's social media was controlled by his company, preventing him from speaking, but a lawyer could. They awaited a legal letter; though it might not change anything, they had to try.

“Mr. Martin has a PR plan. We just need to wait,” Skylar said softly to Charles, who looked exhausted.

Charles felt guilty. “Skye, I never thought I’d drag you down with me.” His family was Skylar’s weakness, especially concerning Joe. More trouble would annoy Joe, fueling his guilt. Impacting their relationship would worsen it further.
