Chapter 808
Edwin, already en route to the Wiscadian restaurant, had Molly beside him. They presented a picture of mutual respect. Various small media outlets had extensively covered their lives since their return from abroad, portraying Molly's departure from the entertainment industry as a noble sacrifice for love. Many aspiring young women, particularly those with modest means, admired Molly, hoping for a similar path to wealth and a devoted husband. They yearned for a man who would cherish them unconditionally, even without children.
However, their driver, Rolf Thompson, found their fairytale narrative ludicrous. He knew the wealthy coupleโs loving faรงade concealed individual affairs.
"This Wiscadian restaurant is new to us," Edwin gently remarked to Molly.
Molly smiled. "Then I must judge the chef against our usual standard."
Their smiles were convincing. Yet, Molly felt a pang of anxiety. Her recently hired private detective had reported Edwin's consistent pursuit of Jenny, day and night. She hadn't anticipated Jenny's allure, given Jenny's professed disinterest.
Edwin leaned close, whispering, "We must ensure Joe accepts me as his father. When you meet him, shift blame for past mistakes onto yourself. I'll compensate you later."
Molly maintained composure, though inwardly she smirked. "That's your promise. Remember my sacrifice, darling. Don't forget what I've done."
"When have I forgotten? We're meant to be together. Our love has been real. I can't live without you." Edwin's practiced affection flowed effortlessly. His flattery was transparent to Molly. However, her age and Edwin's leverage left her little choice but mutual deception.
"I can't live without you either," she replied, their shared smile betraying their understanding.
The Wiscadian restaurant was sparsely populated. After Joe and Jenny arrived, Jenny ordered according to Joeโs preferences. In the upscale setting, after placing their order, Jennyโs eyes welled.
"Joe, since returning to Jipsburg, I've barely spoken to you. I have so much to say," she confessed.
Jenny was deeply aggrieved, burdened by Edwin's threats, yet unable to confide in anyone. For Joe's sake, she suppressed her pain.
"Just talk, no need to cry," Joe responded coldly, his expression impassive.
Jennyโs composure shattered. Tears flowed uncontrollably. "Iโฆ I miss my mother. All these years, youโve been there. Now, back in Jipsburg, I feel so helpless. Iโm sorry, Joe."
Overwhelming sorrow and frustration consumed her; her fear and helplessness, stemming from the threats, remained unspoken, her victimhood concealed.
